A word from Sweet Grass Grill
A casual restaurant serving local and seasonal food. With relationships with about a half dozen local farms, the menu at Sweet Grass Grill varies week to week depending on the daily harvests. Expect seasonal soups and salads and a changing roster of entrees like their signature baby roast chicken and the freshest sustainably-raised fish. The bar, carved out of a single fallen oak tree from the Rockefeller Preserves, features a great cocktail menu, micro brews on draft and bottle, and many wines by the glass.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "This is a local "neighborhood gem." I love the variety and uniqueness of the menu. I also like how the dishes are creative and prepared with farm fresh ingredients. You feel like you're eating a tasty, quality meal. Oh, and the decor makes the whole dining experience homey and comfortable. Nice to sit outside for lunch with a friend on a beautiful summer day!"

  • "Went for lunch on a Thursday. We were the only ones there at first. Our waitress was friendly but seemed to be new and had to revise information or confirm it with another woman who stayed behind the bar and stated corrections so that we could hear. Awkward and discourteous. We had chicken sandwiches which were nicely prepared and delicious. The sandwiches were served with fries which were cold and looked processed."

  • "Found this restaurant in Open Table. As usual we were not disappointed. The food was very very good. Fresh, local and cooked perfectly. We were passing through this area so we wouldn't go there regularly, but if we lived there, we would go there often."

  • "The food was great - will go again - great restaurant"

  • "salads were fresh and tastily prepared while soup was moderately spiced and a bit bland. Dessert was a day old and not very flavorful."

  • "First of all, the bartender needs to smile. He seemed very knowledgeable, but even though the place was not overly busy, he seemed too busy to make any kind of small talk with his customers. As far as food is concerned, While we loved the mussels, we did not eat or care for the calamari at all and were still charged for it. We also loved the cheese platter, but the avocado/edamame bruschetta just tasted like a lot of avocados and nothing else. We also did not like or eat the chocolate mousse. It was sooooo bitter."

  • "Great place for vegans. Excellent vegan options. But the woman at the table next to ours was thoroughly enjoying her pork osso bucco."

  • "We had a bit of a wait for a table even with a reservation, but we were able to wait outside on a very pleasant day and didn't mind. Our waitress was outstanding and attentive, as were other restaurant staff we dealt with except for a rather glum busboy. We were there for brunch. It was our first visit. The portions were sufficient. I had fresh beet juice with ginger and apple which was very good as well as soup and salad and a side of their veggie hash which was great. I certainly appreciated the fresh farm to table food at reasonable prices. We are definitely looking forward to a return visit."

  • "Directly across the street from the Tarrytown Music Hall, this is a great option. Varied menu, attentive staff, and convenient location."

  • "My husband and I had a lovely dinner at the Sweet Grass Grill. We started with the flatbread appetizer and I got the wild mushroom/smoked tofu pasta, which had been recommended by our waitress, and it was outstanding. Much lighter that I would have anticipated and even though I had fully intended to bring half of it home, I ate the whole thing. My husband had the pork chops which were on special and loved them. We both had Sangria (which was okay - I'ld probably not order it again). Our waitress was fantastic from start to finish and the meals came out perfectly timed and fresh. We will definitely return."

  • "I made reservations for my husband and I's 3rd year wedding anniversary. We arrived early, but we're seated at a table specially reserved for us. The food was great, the service was prompt and friendly, and the drinks werevspot on. We were both very pleased with the restaurant for our first visit there."

  • "Our 22nd anniversary and wanted good food in a casual setting with professional staff. Started with cucumber Martinis, excellent. Shared a great kale salad with a truffle dressing; main courses had sweet potato burger and Thai flavored mussels, appreciated both would recommend for foodies."

  • "Excellent Scottish salmon, good wines. Service a bit slow but good. Overwhelming noise- so loud that I couldn't hear others speak."

  • "Food is good however when I asked what type of bread they use for their French toast I was told it was a brioche. The bread ended up being a multi grain and burnt! We ordered a basket of muffins & scones only to find out that they did not make any scones and the only muffins were blueberry. We would have welcomed a selection but ordered a basket of blueberry muffins anyway. For 4 people we received 6 tiny muffins! All in all, cute place and would recommend it to others."

  • "We arrived on a Saturday evening at 7:00pm and we were out of there before 7:45! The food was delicious although the burger which was done to perfection was a little dry (assuming they don't add any fat to the mix to keep it moister). I didn't even finish my beer or my wife her glass of wine. The food is expensive as you have come to expect for a "farm to table" type of place. It is prepared perfectly."

  • "Although the menu is small it has wonderful choices for all types of diets, vegan, vegetarian and carnivores. I especially love their carrot-ginger soup."

  • "My husband and I rarely find a restaurant that allows us both to be satiated by food because we prefer very different things. My husband was thrilled by his grass fed burger and I was happy as a clam with my Hippy Vegan Dog. Great food and wonderful experience."

  • "We went to Lightscapes and found this little gem via a search on open table. It truly was a great find. Beet and goat cheese salad and calamari were wonderful starters. The mushroom strudel and scallops entrees were amazing. The service was on point. The only downfall was that the dining area was a bit loud when all of the tables were full. "

  • "I took my vegetarian friend here for a birthday dinner and had a great experience. The food was wonderful -- fresh and healthful, but also hearty, creative and filling. Friendly and casual, non-pretentious atmosphere. It's great to have a restaurant that gives vegetarians multiple choices, not just the one obligatory pasta dish. "

  • "we were in Tarrytown to visit the Rockefeller Estate and found a review of this place so made a reservation. Wonderfully fresh and artfully prepared organic food. Great beer list as well."

  • "Sweet Grass Grill is a great spot in the middle of Tarrytown's small but vibrant downtown. The menu changes regularly, but always features locally-sourced ingredients from the Hudson Valley's wealth of great farms. You'll be greeted with a plate of bread and a veggie-based spreads instead of butter, but this is not a vegetarian place. It's sure to have something for everyone, vegans included, without making any concessions to taste or presentation. It's a wonderful place."

  • "It was an unexpected pleasure to feel no hectic, frenzied feeling here. Its a bit small and I thought that would be an issue, but it wasn't! And they even had the exact wine we love. Staff members were lovely and efficient - even funny! The menu was quite interesting for choices - could have ordered several things. We left sated and happy!"

  • "My husband is a vegetarian and eats healthy (not big on carbs) and I'm not so it can be difficult to find a restaurant we both really enjoy. Sweet Grass was a great choice - there may even have been more choices for him than me! The waitress was great, the space was really nice, service was quick. Great choice on date night."

  • "They get produce and meat from stone barns daily which goes into their specials. Many vegan and vegetarian options. Great for pre theatre as it's down the block from Tarrytown Music Hall. Service was excellent. Our food was good and drinks choices varied. Will go again. "

  • "We chose this restaurant for location and menu. The food was excellent, local, and could not have been more fresh. Vegetarians will find abundant choices, but plenty for all tastes. Max (Manager) and Natalia (Waitress) were friendly, accommodating and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and would go back any time we are in the area. I wish we lived closer!"

  • "Went for lunch in a Friday. Ate outside which was pleasant. One of us had a burger (terrific) and the other a mixed green salad with grilled chicken. The chicken had a amoky taste which was delicious and the salad had grilled mushrooms also great. "

  • "This was our second time dinning at Sweet Grass Grill and we'll definitely be back! I love the whole concept of the restaurant and the food is great. My girlfriend had the mushroom strudel (delicious) and I had the cod special. This was our first date location so it is a little special for us, and we love that the food is local and so fresh. Can't wait to come back!"

  • "First time visit to this restaurant . We had Tempeh chicken wings very tasty, ginger carrot soup - excellent , mushroom truffle dish wrapped in phyllo - good, burger- dry and tasteless . This place is a vegan's paradise with many choices . I am a staunch carnivore who found many options to choose from. "

  • "This was my third time at Sweet Grass and I have never been disappointed. As a pescatarian, I always have many options to choose from and the food is always so fresh. The menu items are also really unique. Do not miss the calamari tempura appetizer. The drinks are great too. Service has never disappointed--the wait staff is friendly and responsive. All in all, this place is a gem."

  • "Although we had a 7:30 reservation, we had to wait at the bar for a good twenty minutes because no table was available. The hostess was apologetic and when we were seated, a waitress came over to the table almost immediately. Bread was served and drinks arrived. When we ordered, the appetizers came within a fair amount of time. My wife's kale salad had lots of kale but not much else in this "special " salad. We waited approximately 50 minutes for our entrees..bread arrived a second time...and was inhaled. Food was very good but the wait was way too long. Waitress was attentive...the kitchen was way to slow. Loved the ambience...would return, hoping my dinner comes in a more timely fashion on our next visit.. "

  • "I chose Sweet Grass based on a friend's recommendation and was absolutely delighted. I was getting together with an old friend from the San Francisco Bay Area who was staying in Tarrytown and I wanted a place that would be local but a cut above the ordinary. The ambience is very "left coast," relaxed and very mellow. The fish main courses were excellent but dessert--not so much. One of our party had a so-so carrot cake and my friend had vanilla "pudding" with both a strange taste AND texture. The restaurant was packed the night we were there but service was great. Our waitress was very sensitive to juggling the needs of the pre-theatre tables (not us) with our more relaxed pace. I would definitely go back especially if I could sit outside!"

  • "We all went as a group from our office for dinner and everyone loved their meal and said they had a delicious dinner. Food is really good quality, service was great, and wine went perfectly too. Of special note was the Organic Wild Mushroom & Truffle Cavatelli Pasta as well as the Vegan Shepherd's Pie. Highly rate Sweet Grass Grill for their local and seasonal options."
