A word from Sweet Grass Grill
A casual restaurant serving local and seasonal food. With relationships with about a half dozen local farms, the menu at Sweet Grass Grill varies week to week depending on the daily harvests. Expect seasonal soups and salads and a changing roster of entrees like their signature baby roast chicken and the freshest sustainably-raised fish. The bar, carved out of a single fallen oak tree from the Rockefeller Preserves, features a great cocktail menu, micro brews on draft and bottle, and many wines by the glass.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I chose Sweet Grass based on a friend's recommendation and was absolutely delighted. I was getting together with an old friend from the San Francisco Bay Area who was staying in Tarrytown and I wanted a place that would be local but a cut above the ordinary. The ambience is very "left coast," relaxed and very mellow. The fish main courses were excellent but dessert--not so much. One of our party had a so-so carrot cake and my friend had vanilla "pudding" with both a strange taste AND texture. The restaurant was packed the night we were there but service was great. Our waitress was very sensitive to juggling the needs of the pre-theatre tables (not us) with our more relaxed pace. I would definitely go back especially if I could sit outside!"

  • "We all went as a group from our office for dinner and everyone loved their meal and said they had a delicious dinner. Food is really good quality, service was great, and wine went perfectly too. Of special note was the Organic Wild Mushroom & Truffle Cavatelli Pasta as well as the Vegan Shepherd's Pie. Highly rate Sweet Grass Grill for their local and seasonal options."

  • "5:30 reservation on a Sunday, 90 min before a concert at the the theater across the street. The restaurant is lovely, bright and cozy. Interesting, eclectic menu. Food arrived timely, but one guest's roast chicken was undercooked and had to be sent back to the kitchen. It didn't reappear until all other guest had finished their dinner and then only after several requests. Inattentive wait staff; had to ask to see a dessert menu. Clearly, the restaurant wanted to turn the table. Note, we were in and out in less than 90 minutes, we weren't lingerers. The restaurant didn't care that the food was undercooked and took forever to return. What could have been a great experience turned into a frustrating unsatisfying dining experience - not cheap."

  • "First visit and the menu is promising. Food overall good and our waiter was attentive. Unfortunately, the kitchen seemed to be slow that night from the get-go. Our waiter stopped by, kept our glasses filled and was apologetic about the slow kitchen. Once the food arrived it was good. I'd skip the three dips with pita (not so great)."

  • "My husband and I were out alone and everything was great. We have been to restaurants where it's so noisy that you can't carry on a conversation, but not here. The service was great and the food was delicious."

  • "Whenever I'm in Tarrytown, this is our go-to spot. Not only is it an organic, farm-to-table, locavore's dream, it's a pleasant atmosphere, the service is outstanding, AND it's right across the street from the Music Hall. We made a last minute reservation before a show and were 15 minutes late because of traffic, but they were still able to get us in and out before the show started. Both the burger and the salmon we ordered were cooked perfectly. No complaints here."

  • "I am always looking for places with vegan choices. Sweetgrass went out of thier way to accomodate me by letting me choose from both the brunch and lunch menus to increase my vegan or( VP )vegan possible! choices. My compainions had a wonderful brunch as well, even though they are not vegans. I do not live in the area, but in the Hudson Valley, and I would definately choose this as a meeting point when getting together with city friends."

  • "I think the burger could have been juicier, maybe served with some coleslaw. I love to put slaw on my burger. The fries looked like they were all cut the exact same length which leads me to believe they were frozen. I asked the server but he said they were fresh. Not sure about that. The cheese that was extra could not be tasted at all. Very disappointing. I still love this place but not a great experience last Sunday. I will go back though...great beer!"

  • "My second time at this restaurant. The first time we ate at the bar, this time we sat in the dining room. This is a great place to go before seeing a show at the Music Hall. Menu provides light fare up to full dinner. Craft beer menu is excellent. Food is great, service was great. We arrived early for our reservation and were seated immediately while we waited for the other couple. We were not rushed a bit. I will definitely go there again."

  • "First visit to this establishment. Party of 4. Prior to attending a show at the Music Hall. We arrived 2 hrs before the show. Friendly responsive waitress but got nervous because our main courses were not served until 25 minutes before we had to leave. I had to nag her a coupe of times (felt bad). Speaking to the manager I was assured they are working out the service kinks. He bought us a round of drinks to compensate for our nervousness. All's well that ends well. We'll try again."

  • "It's conveniently located across the street from Tarrytown Music Hall. Service was a little slow, but it could have just been because of the show at the Music Hall. They were out of one thing I wanted from the menu. I ordered something else and the order was slightly messed up (asked for salad with burger, got fries instead), but it wasn't a big deal to me and the food and cocktails were fantastic. Very friendly staff too. I would recommend."

  • "Lovely restaurant with great service. Our group included a variety of specific eating preferences, vegan, athlete, gluten-free, etc. This restaurant made everyone happy! Plus, the St. Patrick's Day parade went right by the restaurant. Not often one has brunch while the headless horseman passes by."

  • "Ate here for the third time and it is improving with every visit. This time the beef short rib was outstanding as was my wife's pasta dish. An IPA from WI matched the beef perfectly. The service was very efficient and friendly - it seems like people enjoy their work here and that is always a good sign. The restaurant is just across the road from the Tarrytown Music Hall so it is ideal for a pre-show dinner."

  • "This was our first time a the restaurant. I had to change my reservation earlier in the day and the restaurant was very accommodating. We enjoyed our meal, but have one complaint on service. We had the flatbread appetizer and the burgers for our meal. The food was very good. and the food came quickly once I ordered. Although everyone was very pleasant and the bus boy brought me water right away, it took 12 minutes before the waiter came over to ask if I wanted anything. I arrived earlier than my husband and really wanted to have a drink and order the appetizer while I was waiting. After that, the waiter and service was fine. I just feel the diner should not wait more than 3-5 minutes before being asked about drinks."

  • "We dined here for the first time on a Friday night before seeing a show at the Music Hall. We selected it because it was the only restaurant in the area we could find that was a farm to table establishment, using organic when possible, and local ingredients as much as possible. The moment we stepped in the door we were cheerfully greeted and were seated at a lovely table in the window. The atmosphere was romantic and casual. The service was outstanding. Natalia was very professional, efficient, and pleasant. The food was spectacular! Fresh, beautifully presented, cooked perfectly. The entire experience exceeded our expectations. When our bill came, we could not believe how reasonable it was. Five stars!! We can't wait to go back!!"

  • "We're from Fairfield Cty, CT, our friends from over the Tap in NJ. It was a great place to meet. Found it on Open Table!! There was no rush to have us out. The food was really good. We lingered over drinks and a cheese plate before we even ordered. Everyone enjoyed their entrees - pasta, burger, fish. We'd definitely go back!"

  • "I have a friend with whom I have had lunch many times over the years. She is a picky eater and I have never seen her finish a meal…she isn't often satisfied and when she is, she always takes half home. This food was so fresh and prepared so deliciously we raved about it from the beginning. By the time lunch had ended I glanced at her plate and it was as empty as my own. Great find."

  • "Sweet Grass Grill was recommended to me by a discerning friend. I met another out of town friend there for lunch and it was just perfect! The food was great and options vary, and the ambiance was friendly and relaxed. Would love to go there again soon!"

  • "The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars overall was because when we got there and had to wait for our table to be ready, they told us to wait at the bar. This would have been fine, but the bar was packed and no matter where we stood around it we were in the way of the wait staff or other diners eating. It was a very uncomfortable situation. The place is small and they can't accommodate the extra diners waiting to be seated if the bar is filled with people just getting a drink or eating at the bar. Our waitress was excellent with a great sense of humor. The food was fresh & delicious with plenty of vegan/vegetarian options. I would definitely go back and recommend this to anyone who enjoys a fresh, delicious, whole-food type of meal."

  • "We went with some trepidation because of mediocre reviews. Our experience was just satisfactory but we will not return. The food was good (nothing exceptional) & prices reasonable. But the menu is limited & the service is mediocre. Although the waiters are standing nearby talking to each other and are available, service is inattentive. There was a long wait between appetizers & entrees so I asked our waitress to check on our order. She responded that the food would be "right out"; it came about 5-10 minutes later. Although she walked by our table numerous times, she never returned to ask if our food was satisfactory or if we needed anything. The room was also very noisy -- one group of 8 dominated the restaurant with their noise level."

  • "A great place to visit prior to a show at the Music Hall. Municipal parking right behind, everything close and easy. The cheese plate was a perfect starter. For our entrees, we ordered everything from the nightly specials menu, and we were NOT disappointed. I had a white bean soup and a short rib dish, while my fiancee had the RI bass. Everything was served promptly and courteously by our excellent server. The only drawback was a very loud and somewhat rude large table adjacent to us, but that would not deter us from visiting again."

  • "Four of us went to SGG before attending a concert at Tarrtown Music Hall -- service was great, food was good, wine and beer list is impressive... I had the black bean burger, while very tasty, was not really "holdable' as it kept seeping out of the bun.. another had the grass fed burger, and she was very happy with it.. Another had the pig in blanket and a salad, which was a little small, and lastly another had the mussels, which were a little dry/overcooked, and the broth was non existent... but the beer and wine were great.. and its a very welcoming and comfy place to grab a meal before the show..."
