Swan Terrace - Founder's InnTuesdays on the TerraceThis was our first visit to Swan Terrace and what drew us was the Tuesdays on the Terrace theme. The weather was spectacular, the food was very eclectic and the jazz was fun. We will definitely be back! On the buffet the night we went were bison short ribs, pork tenderloin, lemon herb chicken, mahi mahi and a large array of sides and desserts. The restaurant had no such reservation on the books. The service is very good and you get the right amount of attention from all the staff. You would be hard pressed to find a better overall value in Hampton Roads. There may be food, service, and ambiance that is a little better at some of the high end water front venues, but you will definietly pay a lot more for that too. Everything at Swan Terrace is excellent without braking the bank. We will definitely go back to Swan Terrace for most of our special ocassions.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden GemThe Swan Terrace is a secret treasure found in Virginia Beach. The service is outstanding, the food is delicious, desserts are fabulous and its good healthy food. Not fatty or greasy, fine dining with plenty of selection. Its quiet, the setting is absolutely superb. After lunch you can walk the grounds that make you feel like you are on some rich country squire's estate. Well manicured lawns, gorgeous gardens, great picture spot. I have never understood why more people don't come here. I go several times a year. The food isn't cheap, but the buffet price covers everything: soup, salad, entrees, cheese, fruit, desserts and multiple selections of everything. Fabulous view overlooking lake & garden with best Sangria I have ever tried while trio performed great jazz. It’s seasonal fare. Nice salad bar & homemade dressings. chilled fresh watermelon with mint. I enjoyed wheat pasta salad with tomatoes, basil & asparagus. Plenty to choose from, a creamy Broccoli Cheddar Soup, Shrimp & Risotto Fritters with Hot Sauce, Marinated Chicken, Smoked pork & Succatash was delish, Duck sausages with caramelized Onions & Sweet Peppers, Grilled Filet with Blackberry Thyme jus? Jumbo crab cakes & then you could buy grilled lobster tails & shucked oysters to order from chef at grill. My husband treated me to brunch on my Birthday, what a great choice. Plenty to satisfied every taste buds. The seafood was excellent, and I love cheese so I was in the perfect place. The desert choices were unique, and I really enjoyed the chocolate fountain. We will be back , and will recomend it to our friends. Especially appreciated that the restaurant is "come as you are." Some patrons were dressed very casually, but the staff treated each patron as if he or she was the most important person there. The staff is over-the-top friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. The food - well, where to begin - omelet bar; seafood bar with the delectable crab cakes cooked before your eyes; hot entrees such as steamship round, meatloaf, a chicken dish I can't pronounce, but can tell you was delicious; salads, veggies, waffles and pancakes; and I saved the best for last, but certainly not least, the desserts - superb - there was carrot cake, bread pudding, double chocolate chip brownies, cheesecake, parfaits, strawberry cookies, baklava, and more. Our waitress was exceptional, helpful answering questions about the menu, refilling water, bringing more bread, making sure our dinners were served as soon as the chef prepared them. The crab bisque was delicious as was the mixed green salad with pecans & cranberries. The wild mushroom fettuccini & the crab cakes were excellent. There was an issue with the beef brisket, very fatty & tough. The chef & the manager said they are having problems with the brisket. They pulled it from the menu for the rest of the evening. We were given a different main course & champagne on the house. The overall experience was excellent. As usual our food and the service was outstanding. The hostess noticed that she was about to seat us near a talkative group so, without being asked, moved us to another location. Our server made it a point to time our dishes as we were ready. The food was plentiful and excellent. Our water and bread was kept replenished as needed.
