The food is wonderful. The menu is a bit limited but very nicely done. All of our entree's were perfect: Pork Loin, Salmon, Rib Eye Steak. The Snap Pea Soup was also very good. The desserts are also to die for. This was a great dining experience. An added extra, the view of the ocean at sunset is spectacular, provided there is no fog. Our reservation was at 6:45 PM and we were able to observe the sunset during dessert. On a scale between 1-10...I would give it a 20. We choose the crab cakes for starters and then enjoyed some kind of spinach pasta. I wasn't sure a place like this would be kid friendly and sure enough, they are. Online I didn't find a kids menu, but decided to bring my kids anyways. They were very accommodating and welcoming, my kids enjoyed every moment. We sat by a window and had so much room to move around. No one seemed to be bothered by my kids, taking multiple photos of our family, just having a blast. I would like to revisit this place, customer service was satisfactory, all else was perfect. The bouillabaisse was just ok for me I should have picked the whole fish of the day. Service excellent- our waiter knew his stuff and let us take our time to enjoy our drinks first before the meal. We hung around for the glorious sunset as well and although it got busy, we never felt like we were being rushed. We sat in the lower dining room by the window and were able to see 3 or 4 gray whales, and perhaps an Orca, breaching near the rocks just off shore, while we dined on a variety of excellent options. We enjoyed a bowl of peashoot/spring onion soup, the prawns with paprika, artichoke raviolis, and halibut. The food was excellent, the only bump was the vegetable side served with the raviolis; the turnips were slightly undercooked, and the grilled spring onions with them as well. Minor distraction to an otherwise amazing experience at a national landmark.

Quiet, comfortable booth with great views of the ocean. The restaurant was busy, but we had no sense of being rushed. The food was tasty and beautifully presented. My companion had the artichoke ravioli and I had the soup and crab cakes--we were both very pleased with our lunch. The waiter was attentive, but unobtrusive and we felt welcome to relax and take our time. We had the crab louie salad, Most unusual presentation I've seen with mini wedges of a dense romaine. Very fresh and crisp, with a generous pile of fresh crab. Our server opted to put the louie dressing on the side, saying he thought it made a better presentation. I agree. Topped it off with a lava cake dessert to share.We lucked out on a spectacularly clear day on the coast. Not always that lucky. We had a window seat with fabulous views of the rocks and cove near the site of the former Sutro Baths. Although, even a foggy day is beautiful on the coast.We brought my elderly mother and loved reminiscing about the many permutations the Cliff House has seen. Our waitress was friendly, polite, and knowledgeable. We ordered appetizers, mains, and desserts. All were delicious. Cocktails and wine were excellent, too. Watching the colors in the sky as the sun set was a real treat. The view was outstanding. It's pricey so good for an older visitor or special occasion (my grandma's bday). My only complaint was that I called the day before and spoke with someone about needing easy seating because my grandmother uses a walker and they assured me there'd be no problem, but when we got there it was one of the most hard to get to seats in the place. It's billed as "the best view of the ocean in San Francisco" and it lived up to it. Definitely A-1. Sutros is the more formal dining area that accepts reservations. The Bistro upstairs is more casual fare. Sutros dining room has 25 ft ceilings with floor to ceiling windows to take advantage of the view. Wine list was extensive. Food was excellent but not over the top. We sat close to the window and was mesmerized by the view. Our waiter was fairly attentive but not intrusive. Overall this was one of the more memorable restaurants I've dined at in my life. However we wish we ate in the bar area or top floor.... the bottom floor was a bit pricey for what we wanted.... however, the food and views were amazing! I didn't know that there were other choices of table to eat.... next time.... and there will be a next time... I will make sure to make reservations on the more lower price tables.

Our waiter, however, missed several opportunities to interact with us as a regular person. He kept his formal "fancy waiter" mask on the whole time, making us feel as though we had little business eating at a finer restaurant which, in all honesty, we probably do not. We pretty quickly gave up on him, though, and we held hands and watched the sun set from the best seat in the house. This was the highlight of our entire weekend. Pleased to get a phone call and email reminder the day before of our reservation. Arrived 15 minutes early and was encouraged to hang out at Sutro's bar rather than sit in the lobby. Bartender was friendly and engaging and our waiter (IAN), was particularly attentive and engaging. Our second couple was late so I ordered crab cakes in advance to be ready when they arrived. Ian reminded us that the cake cook quickly and will get cold if they sit too long. When our 2nd party was delayed further, Ian adjusted quickly and took them back to stay warm until exactly when our guests arrived. We were recommended the beet salad and it had a delicious combination of yellow beets and greens. The salmon was excellent and one in our party had the petrale sole (seafood of the day).
