Diner Reviews
  • "Sushi Samba is loud. Not necessarily in a bad way, because the music is produced from a DJ on the first level of the restaurant. If you want a slightly quieter table, request to sit on the second level. Our night started out poorly, as we arrived on time for our reservation and were told to wait. I was initially disappointed. However, after being seated 15 minutes after our reservation time, the manager brought us a complimentary drinks for the table. This definitely changed our moods and we started to have a good time. The night ended very well. We opted for the tasting menu and our waitress really impressed us with her choices. I left satisfied and had a great time. I would go back."

  • "Good restaurant. reasonable prices and decent on staff DJ during the weekend bustle. All in all, great spot for a double date."

  • "Great restaurang with a just wonderful designed interior. Some tables are a little small and are placed right in the "highway" of other guests and waiters running back and forth. Food is just delicious! Perfection! Service could be friendlier and feels a bit stressed and forced. Drinks are a must and totally worth the cash and wait! Overall it was a fantastic night!"

  • "The food is an awesome mix of Japanese and Peruvian food. Excellent presentation and even more excellent is the taste. The atmosphere is fun and vibrant. It is my go to spot every time I am in New York City. I have never received poor service. Staff friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Highly recommended!"

  • "This restaurant has it all, serviceminded personal, good vibe, excellent drinks and a perfect mix of the restaurant's name; Sushisamba! If you like sushi in a twist and haven't got a problem with some noise, good loungemusic and a very relax feeling this is a perfect place to go to and be suprised! Try out the chef's selection and get a little bit of everything."

  • "This dinner was a great start to our NY weekend. Highly recommend this energetic spot to begin the night out in the Village. Tuna Tataki, Yellow Tail Sashimi Seviche and Moqueca Mista not to be missed. Service was very friendly and attentive. Kept the wine flowing. Thank you! Important to note - music was loud at times. If you are looking for a quiet dinner, this may not be for you."

  • "have been here twice before, had outstanding experience. this experience was good; we didn't do the full tasting menu and go all out on drinks. food was very good. felt a bit rushed and upsold, which made the place feel more chain than cool. waiter was friendly and efficent, but a tad cold. the wine prices to me seem too high. however, will go again as the food is terrific and of high quality."

  • "We went to this resto for a lunch last RW and it was a nice experience. I was intrigued with their Japanese-Brazilian fusion cuisine and it didn't disappointment me. Their servers are friendly and service is awesome. I would definitely go back."

  • "This is my "go to" restaurant when I go to theater in the neighborhood. The food is consistently good and interesting and the service helpful. It tends to get noisy, but so do too many places today. Going early helps."

  • "Loved the decor of this place. The food was good and the drinks delicious!! Cherry Blossom is a must cocktail!!"

  • "We finally seated after 45 minutes past our reservation time. Service is very slow for drinks, water, appetizers, meal, etc. Each service person is covering way too many tables. Sushi rolls came without soy source and the next time we can find her is 5 minutes later."

  • "We went here during Restaurant Week with a big group, excited to sample the menu. We got terrible service - an hour plus wait between courses. I was served my main course 15 minutes before anyone else got their food. Terrible watered down drinks. I will not be returning to Sushi Samba again."

  • "Food is creative and delicious… Best done with a large group… Reservation was not ready and had to wait 20 minutes before being seated… Very loud though the live DJ was good. Special Sushi rolls seemed to have shrunk a bit since our last visit."

  • "It had been few years since our last visit to Sushisamba. We were all disappointed by the slip in service and food quality. There was ample staff and the restaurant was not crowded but it took so long to get a second round of drinks we cancelled the drink order. You would think they would want to sell more drinks. We were all offered the specialty of the night cocktail which we were told had aperol but none of us could detect alcohol at all and definitely not aperol - the drink was clear and had no color. The waitress was not concerned when we questioned this and told us she didn't make the drink."

  • "I booked a res for 2 as it was so close to the Barrow St Playhouse we were going to see Buyer and Cellar last Tuesday evening. But the local bus from NJ took 2 hours during rush hour to get in and we missed our 6:00 res by an hour. Happily they took us in and were able to feed us in 20 minutes with some absolutely fabulous, inventive appetizers ( Pacific roll with shrimp and pear!) and we made our 7:30 curtain with no problem, properly fortified."

  • "If you're in the mood for sushi that does not serve your typical choices, then this is the place for you. The food is incredible, the staff is great and the ambiance is lovely. Dance on over to Sushi Samba and enjoy!"

  • "After all these years sushi samba still still provides you with unbelievable food and service. Was here 6 years ago, so sorry to not have been back sooner."

  • "Reservations do not matter. They seat as you come in. Brought wrong entrees and wrong (cheaper) check for table next to us. Amateur hour"

  • "I came with a party of 6 and the hostess was very gracious with letting the first few of us who entered to hang out by the bar as a few of my party arrived late. Once we were all seated we were greeted by a male waiter who seemed helpful at first but once he saw that half of us ordered from the restaurant week menu it seemed it kind of went down hill from there. All of our appetizers and entrees came at diff times and some of us had to wait for the others to begin dining. When we called that out to the waiter after we hadn't seen him for a while he apologized and said it should have all came out together (obviously). He did give us a round of shots on the house which was fine, but it almost felt too little too late. Food wasn't great either"

  • "Because we still had to wait an hour past our reservation time for our table. And the Bartender had an attitude problem...if you choose to work in a high paced bar atmosphere you have to be able to handle stress and lots of people well. We were compensated for our wait and problems with the bartender with a dessert and some champagne..but overall, it was not a great night and I wouldn't suggest it for a spot where you want to be able to hear the person you are with, as it is quite loud with the music, etc!"

  • "I went during Restaurant Week and the menu was good value. The ceviche was yummy and the sliders were filling. Not a fan of bread pudding and the bread pudding served with the menu was more like a brownie, but still enjoyable."

  • "SushiSamba has some excellent food! Everything from the steak to the sushi was absolutely delicious. However, their drinks left much to be desired. I tried multiple drinks off their menu and at first I thought I just didn't like some of their exotic drinks. However, even their Mojitos and Margaritas were bland. It's not even that they used to much alcohol, the drinks simply tasted like nothing. While the drinks were disappointing, the food was great so I would recommend this place."

  • "It is awesome looking in there. I would love to host a party there! But then the food was just so so I don't know if that Fusion is my type of tea."

  • "I came here during the restaurant week. I won't say it's an excellent deal but not bad. The food is good, particularly the desserts. Given the price, i would say it's decent."

  • "Sushi Samba never disappoints, they are always on point from their sea bass to their taquitos..their restaurant week menu can sometimes be a hit or miss but their standing menu has always been good"

  • "We went here for restaurant week. We both ordered the sushi plate, which was very fresh, especially the sashimi, and half had a bit of dressing with a crunchy topping to it. The waitress' recommendations (soup appetizer and the bread pudding for dessert) were both spot on. I had the passion fruit dessert which was tangy, and not quite the texture I had hoped for, but I tried the bread pudding and it was delicious. Perfect for a chilly winter night!"

  • "Wonderful night... Food was spot on, waiter was awesome!! Got there before my reservation and got a table right away!!! Dessert was incredible! Recommend the Samba Smores."

  • "This was my first time there since the remodel. The place is brighter but the menu has changed quite a bit. My favorite ceviche was removed from the list, their signature Samba 7 roll was changed and the Pacific roll tasted different. Usually a great food experience in the past but this one not so much. The staff was very nice and accommodating."

  • "Food in sushi samba is great, the wait may be a little bit to get the food, but it's sef worth it. Love the fireplace and atmosphere upstairs and it's not as loud as downstairs so make it more romantic and able to talk. It's a little pricey but worth every penny. I will come back soon."

  • "Although the restaurant has a good vibe and the food fresh and decent, the portions as well as the sushi pieces are ridiculously small. It may be suitable for people watching their caloric intake, but we (2 slim men) were starving after sharing 3 appetizers and a sushi dinner platter each. I would not return. It's just not worth the prices."

  • "1st visit so not sure what to expect. We were totally blown away by the flavors and food. When you read the fusion factor of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian you may get a "?". It totally works and I would recommend it and plan to re-visit."
