A word from Sushi Roku - Santa Monica
Sushi Roku combines the finest, freshest fish from pristine waters around the globe with the kind of artistry that can only be provided by a mature sushi chef ensuring superlative traditional sushi, together with a splash of California innovation. Sushi Roku is a pioneer of contemporary sushi, incorporating diverse, non-traditional ingredients from Latin America (e.g. jalapeños) and Europe (e.g. olive oil) into its edible works of art. This unique culinary experience that bridges past and present is the result of an eagerness to embrace new ideas and a profound respect for tradition. Sushi Roku’s bold and diverse menu also offers an array of hot and cold specialty appetizers and an extensive selection of exotic entrées.

RobataBar, located behind Sushi Roku features robatayaki style skewers, tapas style sashimi dishes, and sushi.

  • "Had a reservation at 9 pm but still had to wait 30 minutes for a table. The GM apologized though and brought us a free dish. This is not really a traditional sushi place. The food tastes good but it's all very rich and mostly fried-- or at least most of the dishes Gave the food four stars because of the wine list. But for sushi I prefer izakaya, sugarfsh, nobu, etc."

  • "On a recommendation from a friend of mine who worked at the restaurant prior and is a regular I couldn't have been more satisfied with the service. The flavors and ambiance just add to the memorable experience. It's well worth the visit and future visits. I love the variety and fresh choices."

  • "Sushi Roku is my favorite sushi in Santa Monica - they've got much more than sushi, although that's what I tend to order. You can always count on the baked crab handroll - one of the very best things on the menu. One thing I don't understand was the absence of room-temperature sake... no need to heat it, just leave a few bottles out of the refrigerator for those few guests who like it that way. They do this at Japanese restaurants!"

  • "We were a party of 8 people and our server knew exactly how to serve us. He offered to do all of the ordering for us and to facilitate the order of the food and the amount based on how appetite, energy, etc. It was fantastic! The server's name is Clint. Very attentive and the food he brought out was delicious!!"

  • "Near our hotel, we were seated at the sushi bar on short notice. Service and selections for drinks was prompt and attentive. Good sake selection but no shochu menu. Usual wine and beers available. We started off with toro sashimi. Four nice pieces and the quality, texture and taste were superb. My partner who is partial to rolls and in deference to the locale has a california roll. I had six pieces of assorted nigri sushi. Again, they got it right with the rice, the wasabi between the rice and the fish and the cut/quality of the fish itself. My partner declared herself satisfied with the roll. Dessert was green tea ice cream which had been poured into bean paste shells and frozen. Definitely a must have. Recommended"

  • "My husband and I were a little late for our reservation and Sushi Roku was still able to sit us right away. We had 40 minutes before we needed to leave to relieve our babysitter. Knowing we were in a rush, the waitress got our orders in right away and our sushi came out in less than 10 minutes. Our favorites are the Baked Crab Hand Roll and the Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice. We had plenty of time to enjoy our dinner and have a little break from the little ones on a Saturday Night."

  • "Enjoyed the food, the fish was fresh, tasty and the sashimi portions were generous! Deliciously creative shimi roll. Unfortunately, the Sushi chef was painfully slow with large gaps between portions...the last order too long! The chef realized his error and gave us the last pieces of sushi free! I will check it out again and see if that we a one time deal...!?"

  • "We have been here several times and it is always consistently great food and service. Love the variety and trying the off menu specials! The sushi is always fresh and love the variety is choices."

  • "Our table ordered different sushi, grilled fish, and chicken for the kids. All was excellent. My only complaint is that the seating is crowded with the tables too close together for comfortable in/out."

  • "This could be 1 of the best spots in Santa Monica for Lunch... The dining experience is superb despite the feel of a renovation needed to keep this popular brand updated...."

  • "Their "tapas" style menu is wonderful. We love their edamame in truffle butter, their miso eggplant, popcorn shrimp, and sushi so many ways. Service is really friendly. Food comes out fast! And we topped it off with great green tea ice cream. Yum!"

  • "Great food and drinks. The sushi was so fresh and delicious! The California roles were so good and much better tasting than California rolls on the East Coast!"

  • "Upon walking into the restaurant, we realized that this "sushi" restaurant had absolutely no special sushi rolls. There were about 5 rolls that were no different/more unique than any other restaurant. High prices for fantastic food is one thing, however, your high prices were completely unreasable judging by your food. Also, the noise level was so high that we were screaming to hear one another. We actually left and moved next door to another restaurant where you guys share a kitchen."

  • "We where very disappointed with sushi roku. We went for Christmas Eve dinner. The waiter was not very attentive. sushi was nothing to get exited over. Sushi roku was always "the" place to go for amazing sushi but it was a let down. It seams that nobody cares about quality. :("

  • "I loved everything I ordered with my date. The only annoying part was the waiter that keep hovering around the table for orders and the bill. It was quite annoying besides that everything was great!"

  • "Sushi is always fresh. Taste and presentation are awesome. Parking is $2 across the street. I go whenever I'm in LA."

  • "I had been to Sushi Roku in West Hollywood and had had an exceptional dining experience, so when out of town guests wanted sushi in Santa Monica, I thought this would be perfect. However it did not live up to its sister restaurant in service or menu selection. Our waiter assumed we were tourists and recommended the most expensive sake and sushi rolls on the menu...he became less interested in serving us when I opted not to order the $92.00 bottle of sake. Overall, the service was rushed...it was not a pleasant dining experience...and for the price (over $350 for 5 of us), I would not recommend it. I would however highly recommend the West Hollywood site, and will definitely return there!"

  • "Amazing Dining experience that was performed by Server & Sushi Chef. We met CHEF JASON, who came to our table to introduce himself after our Out Of This World Japanese Dining Experience. If You have been to Japan then You would appreciate this wonderful cuisine made by a Master of The Culinary Arts."

  • "I found Sushi Roku using the Urban Daddy app. That app has never failed to find me impressive restaurants in whatever city I may be doing business in. Sushi Roku was the first big fail. If you're a foodie, or know the difference between good and bad sushi, don't come here. Period. Poor craftsmanship. -Otherwise, the waitress we had was amazing. She made the experience."

  • "i thought the quality of the fish was just okay. it wasnt bad, but it was the lowest sushi quality ive seen in a long time. i go to many different, smaller, neighborhood sushi joints and get higher quality than that all the time. i expected more from a big name like Roku. the service was very good and very friendly."

  • "... overpriced - small portions, so you need quite a bit of food. While all very delicious, and a great location (that you obviously pay for), it won't be our regular sushi spot."

  • "I have eaten at Sushi Roku several times, and enjoyed each experience. But I would not ever go unless it was a business dinner. Simply, you can get great sushi at other places in LA for half the price. But if you don't mind dropping the dough, and your in Santa Monica, give it a shot."

  • "I have been here (and the other Rokus all around LA plus Vegas) before and even reviewed it before. Nothing changes here, I like the space and I like the food and I like the energy of the place. Once in awhile they cross the line between good service and "hurry up and get out" but that wasn't this case this time despite an 8:00 Friday night reservation, and the place was packed. Some people say it's a chain, and thus pre-fabricated somehow, and yes it's true this ain't your strip mall sushi place, it's fancier for sure and a little more expensive. But do yourself a favor and have a reservation on the weekend, especially in the summer. And don't leave without ordering the Baked Lobster!"
