Ditch this place for better sushi options (and better ambiance) nearby. My husband and I had a good table, apart from other people, on the first floor but I still felt claustrophobic and uncomfortable. People walking past (with their coats or sweaters) would hit our food or our drinks. Lighting not good. No attempt at decor. Server was difficult to understand. We thought that the understated everything would mean the food is spectacular -- but sadly, it wasn't. Just decent sushi. Will not be returning. And I do not recommend this restaurant for dates.

This is my third visit to a Sushi of Gari franchise, and I'm afraid it's getting worse with each visit. I ordered Sushi Special and Sashimi Special. I understand it's not omakase but you would expect some variety. In an entree of 9 sushi and 1 roll, got 2 tuna and an eggplant. Are there really no other fish to include in an entree for $49? Same with sashimi. Fluke, tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. Besides the yellowtail. Ordered the 'premium' pieces a la carte. Sushi of Gari is worth a visit it if you order omakase or exclusively rolls and maybe that's the Tribeca clientele that they cater to. Including drinks and dessert, the bill topped $300+ for three people so I was not looking to skimp.

Had omikase at the sushi bar. (Chef's sushi choice - food just keeps coming out til you say stop.) Might need to get a second mortgage afterwards! Food and service was incredible! 2 people, ate until full, 2 - 4 oz carafes of home make saki (by Gari), $480 plus tip. I will return! (Just not every week!). Credit card required to make reservations and they call to confirm same day, but hey it's a small place so I'd do it too!

Price for omakase not revealed until the end - depends upon type of fish served. So overpriced it seemed like a scam. Cell phone user next to us was not asked to stop talking. Restaurant smelled and was shabby. Very disappointing.

Very small, typical, plain sushi place, not an interesting interior. No sushi bar, so you do not see chef making your sushi, is a minus in my openion. When I got there, the smell in the restaurant was horrible, I almost desided to leave because of that. The food was good, but not amazing, and for the price they charge I expect amazingly good! Will not come back and will not recommend.

The ambiance had us wondering if we had picked the right michelin star sushi spot but we are glad that decor did not stop us. The omakase was off the charts with flavor fusion sushi coupled with amazing traditional sashimi as well. Their I nnovative approach to sushi made this experience one to remember. Incredible

I am a big fan of Gari. We often go to the theater district restaurant just to be serves by him directly. Columbus is our favorite location because of the walnut table. The lighting in Tribeca is horrible and is like a bad diner, over lit. The noise is bad because the room is so small. The design elements are bit and miss. This room needs a feminine touch with more ambiance and subtle light. Horrible to say this but the server had halitosis and that is a big downer when eating a $400 meal. Despite the shortcomings, the food is always out of this world. Only order the Omakase or it's a waste of your money.

What more can I say? Sat at the bar for pur meal. The sushi was very fresh, very tasty, and unique not only in its presentation but also in it's flavor. This is more than just sushi - it's like each piece is a perfect little entree on its own. Highly recommended for a special occasion. I should also mention that the sake selection is very nice. I've been to most of the Gari locations and I must say the TriBeCa was the most disappointing. The chef was inconsistent with the omasake timing he was not only responsible for the bar but also all the take outs which took time away from the guests. Also, usually the chef recommends you to dip the sushi in soy or not which I didn't get.. I prefer sitting at the bar for the personal interaction you get with the chefs and I was basically overlooked the whole time. Not typical of other gari locations. The omasake was also not the best one Ive had, all in all I wouldn't go back to this location.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2005VIP
    Dined on 7/26/2013
We had the omakase at the sushi bar on the second floor. This was an exceptional sushi meal by any measure. There was a variety of sushi pieces, in all different flavors. We probably had close to 15 pieces. By far one of the best sushi meals we have ever had. We have not had sushi since that experience because we know nothing else will compare. The only qualification I would give is that after agreeing that we would eat sushi and sashimi, we just got one sashimi piece. Not a big deal, just odd.
