Sushi Nakazawa serves the omakase of Chef Daisuke Nakazawa. Within the twenty-course meal lies Chef Nakazawa’s passion for sushi. With ingredients sourced both domestically and internationally, the chef crafts a very special tasting menu within the style of Edomae sushi. Chef Nakazawa is a strong believer in the food he serves representing the waters he is surrounded by, so only the best and freshest find its way to your plate.

Both sushi bar seats and tables in our dining room are made available 30 calender days in advance.

  • "With a high price comes high expectations. Sushi Nakazawa did not disappoint. All of the ingredients were fresh and clean. I especially liked the smoked variety of sushi. Flavor was delightfully subtle and some of the sushis were accented appropriately with the tiniest bits of salt/wasabi/lemon juice."

  • "The 20-piece set omakase is well worth the $120 prix fixe. Be aware it doesn't contain 'extras' you find in ordinary US Japanese restaurants: no soup or salad, no wasabi or soy sauce, because each pristine piece of nigiri comes pre-seasoned as the chef deems necessary. But such sushi! Impeccably fresh, served in carefully paired flights so you can compare the taste and texture of, say, American and Japanese salmon, or geoduck vs. scallop. I'm not a fan of uni, but this was served with a dusting of black truffle salt that elevated it to exquisite. There's no printed food menu, just an excellent sake list. Complimentary yuzu sorbet was the perfect light ending. Service is exemplary. The only comparable place in the US is Naoe, in Miami."

  • "First, if you have to go, try to get the bar because the dining area sucks. There is no sound absorbing interior or whatsoever so the noise is amplified, while as a sashimi obsessed I would expect a quieter and calmer atmosphere for an allegedly premium sushi place, esp. with such price and the level of pretentiousness. Secondly, the omakase was disappointing. Every single piece had lost its own natural flavor. All the flavors I remember are: yuzu, lemon, and smokiness. Of course they kept uni & ikura classic, but even they didn't feel as fresh as ones at cheaper japanese-run places (personally). Also I felt the waiter's explanations were out of memorization rather than real understanding of the food. Third, sake in a wine glass.. -The End."

  • "This has got to be one of the best sushi experiences I've ever had. From the moment you walk in the door, you can tell it's going to be a special time. The ambiance is great. We were unable to get seats at the bar so our reservation is for the dining room. The hostess was quick to greet us and our waitstaff was very accommodating and provided great service without being overly intrusive. The food itself is absolutely wonderful. The very first bite set the tone for the meal and leaves your mouth watering for more. Definitely would like to come back at some point."

  • "Sushi to near perfection. This is for those who like sushi at it's purest - this is not somewhere you go for unique sauces or interesting combinations of foods - however, this is pure sushi at it's best. Best omakase in NYC. Each dish is prepared by nakazawa and his team and is prepared with the slight sauce they want you to try with each fish. nakazawa comes out himself and talks with you - a very nice touch!"

  • "Dining room experience left a lot to be desired. Since sushi bar would not seat 3 only 2, had been trying to get reservations for a while. Expected it to be a great experience,but left disappointed. Sushi was good, but certainly not the best. Sea urchin came shockingly cold --not the way a fine sushi restaurant should serve it.....Dining from noise was very loud -u could hear every word of each conversation from the tables next to you. For the price, would not go back. Can get much better elsewhere. Left disappointed and underwhelmed"

  • "We sat in the dining room. Noise levels vary, depending on table sizes, etc. With that said, this was a pretty underwhelming sushi experience. The service was very attentive (despite what other reviewers have said), so they are at least learning on that front. The sushi itself was just ho hum. Very few pieces were "special" or something you'd want to eat over and over and over again. Since it's an omakase, we expected to have our comfort zone tested a bit, and there was a little of that, it just didn't resonate with us. This place has an image of exclusivity to it which keeps people clamoring to get in. I wonder how many people are repeat customers. There are comparable options in NYC that are easier to get in to."

  • "Like everyone else, I went here after watching Jiro Dreams of Sushi. I was disappointed I couldn't get a reservation at the sushi bar, but I'll take what I can get! 20 pieces of sushi (two to three at a time) came: a mix of shrimp, tuna, salmon, mackerel, and others. Some individual pieces I've had better elsewhere (say the uni) but others were the best I've had. Overall a great dining experience. I'll be back for more!"

  • "I was so looking forward to go to Sushi Nakasawa that I woke up at 5 am (live in UK) for 4 nights in a row to secure the table and I rejected seats at the Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare because of a date clash between the two restaurants. That is only to say that 1) I LOVE sushi and 2) I was really looking forward to this. On the positive side, the fish is very fresh and the sake list is amazing! However, that is it. The rice was such a disappointment (fast food sushi level). Seasoning was also off. The selection was unexciting (basic fish, nothing particularly "interesting"). I really do not see what all the fuss is about Incredible, but I had much better sushi even in Miami than here!"

  • "Nakazawa, I imagine, did not let Chef Jiro down with this establishment. Although I did not sit by Chef Nakazawa and instead ate in the dining room with my father, the experience was fantastic. Every piece of sushi, from the uni to the king salmon, was delicious. Chef Nakazawa's signature tamago was out-of-this-world. The only disappointment I had with that we were not served O-Toro, much to my dismay. The service was fantastic. Our server was knowledgable in both sake recommendations and the types of pieces of sushi served. My father and I never felt neglected by the servers as a whole. The ambience was also very nice. The restaurant itself looked very professional. All-in-all, our dining experience at Sushi Nakazawa was superb."

  • "With its simple, but pleasant decor, you know the emphasis at this restaurant is on the quality of the tasting experience, and it delivers in spades. Each piece of fish is hand-crafted to offer the maximum amount of gustatory pleasure. Unfortunately, once you eat here, most other sushi restaurants will seem pedestrian, and with a $120-$150 price tag and long waiting list, you may be suffering from withdrawal symptoms."

  • "I had a 6:30 reservation on a Saturday night for the dining room. From start until finish, everything was perfect. My table was ready early at 6:00 so they notified me via text. The texture & temperature of the fish & rice were perfect. The sake pairings perfectly matched the courses. We opted for more courses after the initial 20-definetely do not regret that decision. Chef Nakazawa is a very kind man, I was able to get a picture with him and the co-owner. This was the best culinary experience I have ever had. This is definitely the best tasting and most authentic sushi in New York, if not America. I will definitely go back, especially if I can snag a pair of seats at the sushi bar."

It is a good experience if you are into food, but it is a type of restaurant that will become tiring after the first time. I would probably go back one more time if I manage to get a reservation as I did on opentable, probably from someone who cancelled in the last minute."

  • "After watching "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" and since discovering that Nakazawa, the apprentice who attempted to make proper tamago numerous times before Chef jiro approved, was now Chef Daisuke Nakazawa and running his own restaurant in NYC, I knew I had to try it. Although almost impossible to get a reservation, it was well worth the effort. The 20-course prix fixe omakase flows sublimely and if you're still hungry (or just wanting to not stop tasting amazing sushi) you can supplement with further courses."

  • "...this could be it. Sushi Nakazawa absolutely lives up to every expectation set by what you've read or heard through the foodie grapevine. Exceptionally prepared omakase... sea urchin that tasted like foie gras, rice as delicate as a orchid flower, fish as fresh as morning dew. I recommend the sake pairing with your meal; you'll taste some distinctly unique sake that you'll not be able to find anywhere else. All in all, a wonderful experience to hopefully be repeated."

  • "Having heard great things about Sushi Nakazawa I went with my wife and had a wonderful meal. The Omakase was only Sushi the night we ate there and it was delicious and fresh. Each dish was seasoned differently and eaten as directed by our server from right to left. Unlike many Omakase meals the fatty tuna was not the last dish but was followed by Uni, wild chum salmon roe, Eel and Tamago. Our only disappointment was that we were not able to book a sit at the Sushi Bar. It seemed to be a livelier and more interesting place to eat. Unfortunately, the Byzantine reservation policy makes it virtually impossible to get a seat at the bar unless you are willing to go on line at 12:01 thirty days in advance or you are friend of the owners."

  • "Maybe it's because I came with high expectation (loved the Jiro movie), but I thought the sushi was just not up to par. I know some people complain about the fish being local, but that actually doesn't concern me. The bigger problem was that the fish just didn't taste that fresh. I came on a Monday night, so maybe that had something to do with it? Also, the way the sushi was made also wasn't that great. A lot of the seasoning was just too overpowering that you couldn't taste the fish (way too much mustard in the spanish mackerel, for example). To be fair, the tamago was very interesting. This tasted more like cake/dessert. There are better sushi places in the city (i.e. Yasuda, Sasabune, or even 15 East). I will not come back."

  • "The food and experience were wonderful. However, every guy was there with an Asian girl, and boasting about his/her connections or level of income. It's fine if it was dinner-level volume, but when it sounds like a crying child, you can't help but notice. "I KNOW THE GUY WHO OWNS SHAKE SHACK AND HE WILL HAND DELIVER A SANDWICH TO YOU. PLEASE, EVERYONE, NOTICE ME! PLEASE, ASIAN GIRL, NOTICE HOW WELL-CONNECTED I AM!" The service and the servers were nothing short of fantastic and amazing. Given how young some of them were, I was impressed by how hard they worked, and how well they presented all the dishes. It was quite a feat, and I left a healthy tip for their service."
