ok meal. we had the tasting menu. WA albacore with mustard was a good start but it was clear that it wasn't really top grade as it smelled a bit weird. duck ippin was great but the spinach could use some flavor, even if just salt. maybe a drop of dashi. chawanmushi was the highlight. sushi was average. felt a bit like generic lunch sushi at a good but not best place. dessert of quince panna cotta was a nice idea!

Sushi Kappo Tamura was a great dining experience. The food is superb, the sushi fresh. Not the largest portions but large enough. Priced on the high end of sushi restaurants, this restaurants value is the quality of the dining experience. The sake collection was extensive and the waitstaff was knowledgable. The service was superb. The restaurant decor was classy all around, very modern but inviting. Really a wonderful dining experience and I can't wait to return.

I went with a close friend. Our meal was about fellowship and comraderie. The restaurant passively delivered adequate service and solid food. I had asked to be blown away and amazed when I made my reservation. The front and the back of the house did nothing to acknowledge or meet my request. It was fairly perfunctory and expensive. I love paying money for something exceptional. I asked for it. They went through the motions. Nothing more.

Owner/chef Kitamura-san is an All-Star. He's all about making sure you have an outstanding experience, every time. Voluble and effusive in Japanese or English, totally comfortable with both cultures, he presents dazzling dishes then stands back and smiles. The decor and atmosphere scream "Relax! Enjoy yourselves!" We've tried all the Japanese restaurants in Seattle and quite a few in Tokyo and Osaka. Sushi Kappo Tamura tops the list!

This restaurant was the perfect spot for a date night. My husband and I sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed watching the beautiful sushi dishes leave the kitchen. Out of all the dishes we ordered, the highlights of the evening included the Super Yummy Roll (vegetarian), the Mustard Greens with Tuna, and the best Spicy Tuna Rolls and Miso Soup we've had anywhere in the city. The Shiso Mojito was delicious, and they also had Asahi and Sappora on draft. Service from the wait staff was a little slow, but the chefs behind the sushi bar were attentive and friendly. The restaurant is kept impeccably clean, with a nice quiet ambience. Outside signage is minimal. Drive slowly when looking for the restaurant your first visit!

I have been enjoying sushi on a regular basis for over thirty years and have had the good fortune to dine at some remarkable restaurants. This is in the category of 5 star sushi - easily. The rice was sublime, the fishp was perfection, even the quail egg was so fresh and creamy they tasted as if freshly laid. Highlights were ama ebi where the crowds carapace was perfect and delicate and so fresh that there was not a hint of the minerality that often accompanies lesser quality product. I asked for uni knowing it was out of season but chef assured me that he indeed had some and was very pleased with it. I decided to trust him and was blown away with the quality of the urchin. Everything is spot on at this place so if you're a sushi fanatic go

Compelling. ordered Omakase because it gives the chef a chance to really show his talents, and we don't want to order off the menu. We want to be WOW'd. We're not california-roll type of diners. Dishes (sushi & traditional alike)were creative, fresh, delicious. Service was above & beyond. great selection of Sake - and they have flights of sake!! Nice atmosphere; well designed, decorated. My husband and I dined at there the other night and had a delicious meal. The sushi was ok, nothing special I thought, but the main courses like the pork stew and steamed halibut were phenomenal. Both were cooked to perfection which had a great accompaniment with broth or sauce. The portions were a bit small and we left wanting just a bit more. However, I think this place was a great find and worth checking out.

having known the yelp reviews prior, i had a bit high expectations for the sushi/sashimi. hence, i ordered the okamase. the first course were a carefully laid out of 3 oysters. i slivered each onto my tongue. had couple seconds to taste. then swallowed. not the best, however, not too bad. just the ordinary oysters one can get at a franchise or family-friendly chain restaurant. then came a hot egg dish in crab/bok choy. again, edible, though i have had a couple in hong kong and shanghai that are irresistable. as a teaser, and i guess presentation, live jumping shrimp. not to eat right away. though was quite startled, but in laughter. then the cooked shrimp in a tasty butter sauce. next the test--sushi/sashimi. disappointment. grocery-qualit

Have always wanted try Sushi Kappo Tamura and finally got around to it. Really nice restaurant, parking wasn't too bad in that part of Eastlake. Had a bottle of Sparkling Sake that server recommended which was delicious. Decided to try a little bit of everything on the menu. The best items I had was the Sashimi which just melted into your mouth, Albacore/Mustard greens salad which while small was super tasty, and the Duck which was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately everything else we ordered really missed the boat and was a little disappointed considering the restaurants good rep.
