Love Superba, their food is absolutely awesome. They have a reasonable selection of wine by the glass and bottle. When we went, they put a special 5 course dinner together for us upon request even though it was officially no longer on the menu so no complaints about service which was excellent all the way through. The atmosphere is great and perfect for couples, singles or smaller groups. Don't go here if you're on a budget but if you want to treat yourself and your friends, you cannot go wrong.

It would be great to see more vegan-friendly options...There are many of us who want to pay top dollars for a fine-dining vegan experience...A little creativity in dish preparation could lure in this group...I know many vegans who live a stones throw away from Superba...We always go to Cafe Gratitude...would be great to have another option close by when we want to get fancy. :) ps. the cauliflower steak is amazing...more like that? ps. gluten-free pasta options would be superb

Took an extended lunch from work on Friday to try Superba Snack Bar. I've been wanting to go for quite a while. Location was nice and the food was great. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was due to the outdoor seating. The vinyl covered padding on the bench street side gets very hot, VERY HOT, but at least they give you a blanket to help with that. The other seat were just stools with no back which can be a little uncomfortable since there was no support. I would definitely go back and I'm going to take the family but we'll most likely sit inside.

We really enjoyed our evening at Superba, the food was delicious and the service was excellent. There were three of us, we had booked and we were seated straight away. We sat at a shared table but it didn't feel intrusive. The menu provided lots of interesting choices and exciting flavours. After shared snacks and a small plate we each had a pasta which left us feeling very satisfied. Dining at Superba was a lovely experience and we had a memorable evening.

Superba's food is well, superb. The wine list is unusual (read that as indecipherable to someone who is not tasting and buying wine on a regular basis.) Nevertheless, the server's recommendations proved to be delicious. The setting is comfortable, kind of cave-like (tall ceiling, low lighting) inside, busy bar seating, and very open and inviting outside (but ask beforehand to be outside.) Into that setting, imagine young, casual, hip diners and you've got a relatively new hot Venice hangout. Two warnings: parking is impossible; noise level only slightly less than intolerable.

After initially being ignored as I waited at the door for 5 minutes for a server or a host to speak to me, I was brought to my table and served one of the best meals I have had in recent memory. Alex was our server and he was the highlight of our evening (other than the always spectacular carbonara) Thank you!

went early and were seated at a nice outdoor table. Server came out immediately to offer water and say hello. The menu is not too huge, beer and wine only, but what they've chosen to serve is outstanding. We tried 6 small plates and a wonderful bottle of wine. The food delivery (unlike a lot of tapas-type venues) was timed impeccably. We didn't get deluged with all the plates at once, but were able to enjoy each dish to its fullest. The kale salad was very fresh, filled with wonderful flavors to make something healthy feel indulgent. Speaking of indulgent, the fried chicken and fresh pastas (smoked carbonara & pepper) were beautiful bites of heaven. Fresh & flavorful food in a very comfortable environment..a no brainer of excellence..

The OpenTable reservation didn't help us at this restaurant since we ended up waiting longer than other people who didn't have an OpenTable reservation and we ended up not getting seated until a half hour after the OpenTable reservation time. The food was pretty good though. We just won't be coming back unless it is off hours.

This is a new Rose Ave (not all that new now) place in Venice. And, like the others that are here now, it's great food. It seems to be a seasonal menu, and there's a lot of fun, interesting stuff on it. We had great service--with wonderful suggestions on what to order. And, while the bill can add up quickly, it was worth it! Recommend!

  • Better Small Plates?? Really? YES!
    FoodieVaughn
    Dined on 7/26/2014
Every restaurant is doing small plates these days. Frankly, I'm getting a little tired of the small plates because it seems like a stale concept. Enter Superba -- they figured out how to step up the small plate foodie concept to the highest levels. Ever sauce we had wish our dishes was plate licking good. We had to ask for bread to sop of the juice. Now I understand why Jonathan Gold has Superba on his top 101 restaurants in LA. What also makes this restaurant special is the simple and clear menu. I think having a few dishes allows the chefs to really focus on quality. Also, it's helpful when making decisions. There were 4 of us at dinner and each one was able to find something that they wanted to try.

first time, have always seen it on top restaurant lists, so went for brunch, but the experience didn't live up to the hype. in particular the 'Veggie & Eggs' was mostly potatoes. limited drink menu: no Decaf coffee, no lemonade. Overall food, service and experience was sub par - much better options in Venice / Santa Monica area. Really surprised this is rated so highly.

The service was terrific and the wine excellent. The food - well - a bit too "inventive." We had the chef's tasting menu which was too much food and every dish was sweet. The opening peaches on toast was more like dessert and too sweet for a starter. The fried gnocchi simply didn't work. The carrot dish was full of limp overcooked carrots. The mascarpone cheesecake was great as was the custard with the smores. The dessert with meringue, olive oil cake and homemade Greek yogurt was a mess. The fried chicken was ok and the heirloom tomatoes too drenched in dressing. The bread from their sister establishment was excellent. Don't think it's worth a repeat visit.

As a vegan, the establishment accommodated my diet preference and provided me with a couple of tasty, vegan-friendly choices...The cauliflower steak is to die for, and the pasta was delicious...The wine was awesome...The community tables are great...The only thing that bothered us was the music...They were playing a loud mix of 80s power rock anthems and it's just not the kind of music one expects to hear at a place like this...Journey and Van Halen?!....That's more a sports bar type of vibe...

This was my second visit to Superba snack bar. The ambience is stunning with large shared tables inside and a quiet covered patio outside. Its indeed a neighborhood hot spot that is a must try! I however, find the menu limited. For L.A., I expect vegetatarian and fish menu options. They do create smoothly flavored cocktails and make their own pasta, yet I saw too many dishes with pancetta. Everything is a bit high-calorie and on both visits I ordered salad as an appetiser (another kale salad) to make up for my pasta entree. The homemade tagliatelli pasta is fresh, but bland - I asked for red pepper flakes for flavor. A firend who lives in Venice LOVES Superba and is a regular. If you're not counting calories, I think you will too.
