My husband said his Kansas strip (special) was the best steak he'd ever eaten. Their beef is in the top 2% of the beef in the country yet they still had grilled tofu for this vegetarian that was amazing!!

  • Great View, but fair food, service
    OpenTable Diner Since 2013

The setting is beautiful over looking the Western North Carolina Mountains. The presentation of the food was good, but the taste and quality were very average--not much better than a chain. The matradee was curt. We had a reservation at 5:30. We arrived at 5:15. The restaurant was empty, but the matradee did not offer to seat us when we checked in. She summarily dismissed us and told our party to return at 5:30---not a welcoming experience. Asheville has many great, friendly places to eat. Unless you want the view, go downtown for dinner. The downtown establishments have better food and more professional service.

Brought friends from Chicago for the first time. Dinner at the Grove Park was always our go to place. Dinner was good but not great especially for the prices. Two of us had to send back our creamed spinach to have it reheated as it was bearly warm when served. Dessert was supposed to be short cake with berries however, the short cake was very dense for short cake. Overall dinner was good but nothing special. Next time we'll probably only come for drinks not dinner. Oh, yes The valet cost was exorbitant, $15. Unlike previous menus this menus did not include traditional Western NC Dishes making the dining experience no different than any other major hotel in any other city in the US. Expected more from Grove Park Inn.

Everything was excellent, the food very good, the staff outstanding. All personable and enthusiastic. The prices are perhaps a quarter or a third too high, not too important for our special occasion, but enough that I would perhaps not choose to return on a casual basis. The big draw is the ambience, the excellent service second, the food a fine third.

This was my first dining experience since OMNI's acquisition of the Grove Park Inn, and it was very disappointing. The maitre'd was brusque and inattentive. Our waitress tried her best to smile, but service was not at its former level. The food was mediocre at best. We all commented about how sad we were to see things go in this direction, as it had been a sublime exoerience in a beautiful setting. We won't stop in again.

We celebrated two anniversaries with dinner on Sunset Terrace. Our steaks and veggies were quite good, but the cake and berries did not meet expectations. The cake was dry and tasteless; even the whipped cream was not enough to save it. I counted a total of five berries on the plate. They lost a star for a disappointing dessert. Oddly enough, the server said it was her favorite.

Unique & excellent. The flank steak Salad a meal in its self. This is TOP SHE Dining. Thank you for being a part of my PERFECT birthday with my Baby Doll Lori 👍

Biscuits were delicious and served with butter covered with honey and a pinch of seasonings. I ordered the chicken BLT. It was good, but the focaccia was the biggest part of the sandwich. I ended up cutting out most of the inside of the bread so I could taste the sandwich. Overall the setting was beautiful, good selection of foods. I would return.

Great atmosphere and a very attentive waitress. The sunset was beautiful and I would definitely recommend the Sunset Terrace for dinner.

Not sure of the nature of the changes but it's reflected a bit in the offerings as well as staff morale, it seems. Servers attitude was not what it should have been and certainly not what we've experienced in the past. Still the food is very good and the view is fantastic.

Exceeds expectations. Spent time with very special friends and the surroundings made our time together simply joyous. We were able to relax and enjoy conversation without intrusion, though wait staff were attentive to our needs. Pomopoppodoro soup was fresh and delish. I had chicken BLT which was melt in your mouth. It was a complete and delightful experience!

I decided to take my fiance on our last pre-wedding trip this past weekend. I wanted to do something nice, from the lodging, dining and overall Asheville experience. I opted to take her here for dinner based on others reviews and it being a place I had never personally been myself. Upon arrival we were greeted at the door got to the hostess stand and seated promptly. The views were amazing to start. Our waitress was top notch, the drinks were wonderful, she has a mixed, I simply prefer beer, but the Centennial Pale Ale I had was great. Our starters, salads, and main courses were absolutely amazing as well. We opted to split a starter, crab cake, wise choice as the salads were quite large and the mains were very generous servings as well.

We dined on the Sunset Terrace in celebration of our 49th anniversary. It was a special evening with the attention paid to us. We had a table located on the balcony overlooking Asheville. The food was excellent. A special Happy Anniversary desert was presented to us. Our waitress was very attentive yet not overbearing. It was a great experience. We continued the celebration at Elaine's, a dualing piano bar which is fantastic.

Dinner at the Sunset Terrace is a delight! Our party of five met for dinner at the Grove Park Inn for dinner. Valet parking is expensive ($15). Our table sampled the filets, lamb chops, and scallops. The food was very good, portions were average and cost was high. Food was again very good but not outstanding for price. Will take visitors here for view--perhaps for drinks in the bar below.

The scenic view is awesome and the historic Grove Park Inn is a must see. So for that alone I say it is worth doing. The food was good, but for the money you can get better. The service was average...maybe below average for the price point. Honestly though, you can get the same view and experience from Edison which is more of a upscale sports pub in the Grove Park Inn. If you can't get a table at Edison, or if you just want to spend more money for a decent steak, then go to the Sunset Terrace.

We ate at Sunset Terrance but personally I enjoyed Edison's more. My crab cake sandwich was only ok and I don't think it was worth the $18 charge. I have paid less for crab cake sandwiches else where and enjoyed them more. Sweet tea was superior and they kept my glass refilled. The scenic view can not be put into words how amazing it is and worth the price of admission. A bit ticked that it took our valet over 30 minutes to bring up our car when others did not have to wait as long so that $15 charge was not worth it. Plus no one really offered an apology or an explanation for the wait. Make sure to go to right back off the lobby to the gift shop. We missed it the first time we went a month ago.

The setting is so beautiful it almost makes you forget the outrageous beverage prices! $12 to $15 for a standard cocktail is ridiculous! It is a much better value to sit below on the lower terrace and not pay these obscene prices! Better yet, have the buffet in the restaurant. The food is superb and half the cost.

The food was excellent, and the service was lovely, but it was the setting/view we came for. That was outstanding. We probably wouldn't spend this much if it weren't a special occasion ($340 for 4 ppl, apps but no desserts), but for my parents' 50th anniversary it was fantastic. We did arrive on the hottest day of the summer, which was unfortunate - 85+ degrees, and the sun was on us as it fell lower in the sky (about half of our dinner). The terrace is covered, and we weren't right at the edge, but we still weren't shaded for all of dinner. Just something to keep in mind if we return again........

Dinner, service and atmosphere were all absolutely fabulous. My wife and I had dinner early evening in summer and were seated at a perfect table at the edge of the terrace with a picture perfect panoramic view. The only thing we would change is to be sure to make later reservation (7:30 would be ideal). Then it would be cooler, while still early enough to enjoy all the stages of the beautiful sunset. The Sunset Terrace is worth every penny and we are already making plans to go back with friends.
