It was our anniversary. Not only did we get a premium table with a view of the mountains, we also received excellent service. The trout was the best I have eaten. Sides were exceptional as well. It was a overall memorable experience.

I've never had a bad meal on Sunset Terrace. And even when the weather isn't perfect the view is still great. On this occasion I had friends from FL visiting and Sunset Terrace is one of my go to places to go to show off all the wonders of Asheville. It never disappoints.

  • Best 'fancy' dinner ever!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 9/27/2014
We had a birthday dinner Saturday night at the Sunset Terrace and its now my favorite 'fancy' dinner memory! The food was fabulous. I had the shrimp primavera. The shrimp were cooked perfectly (and there were about 8 HUGE shrimp) and the sauce was just fantastic. Other diners had the filet, rib eye and salmon and all were wonderful too. Dessert of sticky toffee pudding and the cheesecake/chocolate cake combo were amazing! Our server was attentive but not overly present. The atmosphere was a step up from casual fare but it still felt comfortable and not stuffy. The view is gorgeous! Overall, great experience that I'd recommend to anyone looking for a special way to mark their trip to Asheville.

  • Way too expensive - long wait

Way too expensive - long 2.5 hour wait for adequate meal! I love the Grove Park and appreciate Omni for reaching out to locals with addition of Twilight spa experience & Edison grill but likely the last time I choose the Sunset Terrace for dinner. Food was okay but not worth the price! So many superior restaurants - better creative chefs in Downtown Asheville. I just can't wrap my head around 70.00 for a piece of meat & vegetable. Atmosphere great - so no regrets there. It took two and a half hours to receive our dinner. No one offered to give a glass of wine or to pay our parking due to the long wait I called to complain. No one bothered to return my call. Omni, you can do better than that please!

The Sunset Terrace has one of the best dining views of any hotel in America. I've stayed and dined at Grove Park Inn for over 30 years. The hotel is one of America's true gems. In the past the food has been just OK. Over the past 5-7 years the food has improved significantly, and my most recent meal at the Sunset Terrace was very good. Service at our lunch was the best I've ever had at Grove Park. The wait staff was never intrusive, but there exactly when you needed them.

The setting is beautiful over looking the Western North Carolina Mountains. The presentation of the food was good, but the taste and quality were very average--not much better than a chain. The matradee was curt. We had a reservation at 5:30. We arrived at 5:15. The restaurant was empty, but the matradee did not offer to seat us when we checked in. She summarily dismissed us and told our party to return at 5:30---not a welcoming experience. Asheville has many great, friendly places to eat. Unless you want the view, go downtown for dinner. The downtown establishments have better food and more professional service.

Brought friends from Chicago for the first time. Dinner at the Grove Park was always our go to place. Dinner was good but not great especially for the prices. Two of us had to send back our creamed spinach to have it reheated as it was bearly warm when served. Dessert was supposed to be short cake with berries however, the short cake was very dense for short cake. Overall dinner was good but nothing special. Next time we'll probably only come for drinks not dinner. Oh, yes The valet cost was exorbitant, $15. Unlike previous menus this menus did not include traditional Western NC Dishes making the dining experience no different than any other major hotel in any other city in the US. Expected more from Grove Park Inn.

Everything was excellent, the food very good, the staff outstanding. All personable and enthusiastic. The prices are perhaps a quarter or a third too high, not too important for our special occasion, but enough that I would perhaps not choose to return on a casual basis. The big draw is the ambience, the excellent service second, the food a fine third.

Our first dinner at the Inn was at Sunset Terrace and we were thrilled. Bradley took care of us and he was friendly but not intrusive, he was knowledgable and very helpful in accommodating one of our guest's gluten free requirement. The food was high end - the creme brûlée was the best we have ever had. Toward the end of our dinner, we were treated to a fireworks display and after that, a warm light rain that did not compromise the restaurant seating area at all. This was a very romantic evening for us, but we saw families and groups having just as lovely a time as we experienced.

This was my first dining experience since OMNI's acquisition of the Grove Park Inn, and it was very disappointing. The maitre'd was brusque and inattentive. Our waitress tried her best to smile, but service was not at its former level. The food was mediocre at best. We all commented about how sad we were to see things go in this direction, as it had been a sublime exoerience in a beautiful setting. We won't stop in again.

We celebrated two anniversaries with dinner on Sunset Terrace. Our steaks and veggies were quite good, but the cake and berries did not meet expectations. The cake was dry and tasteless; even the whipped cream was not enough to save it. I counted a total of five berries on the plate. They lost a star for a disappointing dessert. Oddly enough, the server said it was her favorite.

I was here for my girlfriends 60th birthday. We had 12 girls. Waitress was excellent but the main course took too long to come out of the kitchen which the kitchen was at the other end of the terrace. We had a birthday cake and felt they should have cut in front of us. They took the cake back to the kitchen to slice which took long again to come out. The slices were too big and a lot of the 48.00 cake we ordered from the restaurant was a waste but I have to tell you that their carrot cake was outstanding.

Biscuits were delicious and served with butter covered with honey and a pinch of seasonings. I ordered the chicken BLT. It was good, but the focaccia was the biggest part of the sandwich. I decided to take my fiance on our last pre-wedding trip this past weekend. I wanted to do something nice, from the lodging, dining and overall Asheville experience. I opted to take her here for dinner based on others reviews and it being a place I had never personally been myself. Upon arrival we were greeted at the door got to the hostess stand and seated promptly. The views were amazing to start. Our waitress was top notch, the drinks were wonderful, she has a mixed, I simply prefer beer, but the Centennial Pale Ale I had was great. Our starters, salads, and main courses were absolutely amazing as well. We opted to split a starter, crab cake, wise choice as the salads were quite large and the mains were very generous servings as well.

Dinner at the Sunset Terrace is a delight! Our party of five met for dinner at the Grove Park Inn for dinner. Valet parking is expensive ($15). Our table sampled the filets, lamb chops, and scallops. The food was very good, portions were average and cost was high. Food was again very good but not outstanding for price. Will take visitors here for view--perhaps for drinks in the bar below.

The scenic view is awesome and the historic Grove Park Inn is a must see. So for that alone I say it is worth doing. The food was good, but for the money you can get better. The service was average...maybe below average for the price point. Honestly though, you can get the same view and experience from Edison which is more of a upscale sports pub in the Grove Park Inn. If you can't get a table at Edison, or if you just want to spend more money for a decent steak, then go to the Sunset Terrace.

We ate at Sunset Terrance but personally I enjoyed Edison's more. My crab cake sandwich was only ok and I don't think it was worth the $18 charge. I have paid less for crab cake sandwiches else where and enjoyed them more. Sweet tea was superior and they kept my glass refilled. The scenic view can not be put into words how amazing it is and worth the price of admission. A bit ticked that it took our valet over 30 minutes to bring up our car when others did not have to wait as long so that $15 charge was not worth it. Plus no one really offered an apology or an explanation for the wait. Make sure to go to right back off the lobby to the gift shop. We missed it the first time we went a month ago.
