Diner Reviews
  • "Read my full review on trip adviser: basically, portion sizes are out of whack...especially for the price. I will not dine on the Sunset Terrace again, but would order a drink or cup of tea."
    Dined on 7/8/2014
  • "Good place for a drink but the food and service are not worth the price"

  • "For the most part, our second visit to the Grove Park Inn Sunset Terrace after five years was as wonderful as the first with two exceptions. We ordered the crab cake appetizer, as we had before, but instead of two cakes there was just one, and it was nowhere near as good, missing the large chunks of crab that had made us vow to get it again. And though my wife's filet was incredible, my lamb was far too underdone for the medium rare I'd ordered."

  • "Took my boyfriend for his birthday and was extremely pleased with the service and ambiance, however the food was overpriced and very disappointing. Will not be returning"
    Dined on 7/7/2014
  • "The food is very good, the building is a landmark, and the view spectacular. Enough said."

  • "This luncheon was for a friends birthday. After leaving the restaurant she said that is was the best birthday she has ever had, And at 74 years, that is saying something. I would recommend to anyone. William Ruthven"

  • "Returned after a great experience 20 years ago to find an even higher standard of service. Missed the live music and dancing from the past."
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • "We had front row seat on the terrace with a fabulous waiter (Shaun). The rack of lamb and pork chop with sides (mushrooms, fingerling potatoes) were done as we like them. A leisurely based meal ending with a beautiful sunset. Could not ask for a better evening."
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • "Definitely a big treat albeit a bit pricey. Would not hesitate to recommend."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "I took my girlfriend there for a late dinner and fireworks. The staff couldn't control the folks in the lobby from going out on the terrace where we were dining so we saw no fireworks at all.. major disappointment and I won't return there for the 4th of July."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "The food was amazing as well as the service. Drinks were delicious. Crab cakes, tuna, filet...everything was fantastic. The view was breathtaking. I would definitely dine here again"
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "After a nice hike on Mount Michelle on Blue Ridge we set at the Sunset Terrace for a lunch. It was wonderful place to eat with great view."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "What could be wrong with a terrace restaurant at a place like the Grove Park Inn, with an panoramic outdoor sunset view of Asheville, North Carolina and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Add a creative and diverse menu, perfectly prepared, and perfect service (our top-notch waitress was Sidney), and you have the perfect place for a very special occasion (our 25th anniversary). Nothing could have been any better."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "Fantastic evening in a magnificent setting. From the first friendly greeting to the end of the meal we felt welcomed and pampered. The menu was diverse enough to satisfy anyone. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Wait staff was friendly and efficient giving just the right amount of attention. Meal was nicely paced. I would highly recommend the Sunset Terrace!"

  • "The beet salad was great, practically a meal! Bob had the Caesar salad good and fresh, trout delicious, scallops good and juicy ..y Too full for dessert."
    Dined on 7/2/2014
  • "My wife and I were celebrating our 20th anniversary so naturally I wanted to take her somewhere romantic, and the Sunset Terrace was perfect. The staff were courteous and professional; attentive but not hovering. It was a terrific evening. The only (slight) criticism I have is that the rub on the steaks was salty (and I like a lot of salt). However, after a quick scrape I was able to enjoy that delicious New York strip. My wife raved about the bone-in ribeye. The Sunset Terrace at the Grove Park Inn is pricy, but it's a very special place. You won't find many like it. Highly recommend."

  • "A wonderful experience. Charming setting with stunning scenery. The steaks are good, not great, but any mild deficiency is made up by the atmosphere."
    Dined on 7/2/2014
  • "This place has a view worth paying for, especially at dinner. Watching Asheville light up as the sun goes down...WOW! The food is very expensive, and as most would say, better than average, but it's hard to go wrong if you aren't too worried about blowing the vacation budget on one meal."
    Dined on 7/1/2014
  • "My wife &I have dined at the Sunset Terrace in previous years while staying at the Grove Park Inn.We have always known that the food was "resort"priced(which is rather expensive),but well worth the price. This time the ambience was not there, the server was horrible in a pricey restaurant like this.We requested the reservation some time before coming to the inn for our vacation and even though we had the set time,we requested a choice table and the staff couldn't even fullfill that for us. Chances are that when we return to the Grove Park Inn for a vacation,we will not be dinning at the Sunset Terrace."

  • "When friends and family visit us in Asheville, we always take them to dinner at the Sunset Terrace. There is no better restaurant view, food and experience anywhere!"

  • "As always, fabulous food and service, with a breathtaking view. Everything at the Grove Park Inn is spot on...they never disappoint."

  • "Breathtaking views, amazing food! When visiting it takes you back in time, it's a magical place anytime of the year."

  • "I have dined here a dozen times over the past 10 years. This was my first visit since the GPI became part of the Omni chain. Not sure if that is the cause of the sub-par dining experience I had a few nights ago or not. Had the raw bar tower for an appetizer. Oysters were desicated and gritty. Both of us ordered filets medium rare. Not an iota of pink, much less red, in both steaks. Good flavor and tender, but definitely cooked medium well. Food came out plated wrong, with my sauce on his plate. The bearnaise he ordered didn't come for another 5-10 minutes. Sides were bland. Baked potato chunky and lukewarm. Creamed spinach that looked frozen. Carrots that were undercooked. Mushrooms overly salted. Dessert shortcake hard and seemingly stale."

  • "We had the filet - it was perfectly cut, perfectly cooked. The view is outstanding, the server and management very attentive. One of my very favorite restaurants in Asheville."

  • "We arrived for a 2:30 lunch reservation and were pleased to find a table for 2 with an unobstructed view of the mountains. The outdoor dining experience was fantastic, but that depends entirely on the weather, of course. Menu selection for lunch was very good, and we both ordered seafood, which did not disappoint. Service was stellar and food was prompt. Walking around the hotel after lunch was a nice treat. Already looking forward to returning!"

  • "Excellent food, view, and service. We really enjoyed it and will return."

  • "High clouds, so not much of a sunset, beautiful view."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "We had dinner and both the service and the food were outstanding. My wife had the filet mignon and I had the strip steak and both were delicious and cooked to perfection. The view was awesome and our waiter was a seasoned professional. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone without hesitation."

  • "In addition to the view, the food was delicious. Our entire party loved it. Suggest taking a Grey Line Tour which was delightful and get off at Grove Park Inn for lunch. Then you can continue your tour at your leisure. Grove Park Inn is breathtaking !"

  • "Had lunch at the Sunset Terrace at the Grove Park. Food and the view was magnificent. A little pricy but well worth it."
    Dined on 6/23/2014
  • "the view was absolutely fantastic. The food was not so great. The steaks were salty and the salmon was salty too. We were showing Friends around and they happened to be chefs at high end restaurants In hyanis port. I was embarrassed that i was bragging about GP as Asheville's best. At $340 bill i expected better food"

  • "My wife and I went here for the last night of our honeymoon and we could not have chosen a better spot. It was delicious and had a spectacular view. It was so romantic and beautiful. The service was exceptional as well. They even let us ring the sunset bell! We will definitely be back."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "My wife and I dined on the Sunset Terrace for our anniversary, and we were very pleased with our choice. The food was outstanding. The steaks were cooked to perfection, with great seasoning, and a slight "crust" on the outside. All of the other dishes were very well executed as well. The staff was friendly and personable, without being overbearing. The view is incredible! One of the best spots to take in the sights of the Blue Ridge, with incredible food!"
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "The food was good, but nothing special. It was a steak that you could get much cheaper, at another high end restaurant. For less than $42 a la carte, anyway. With an average of $7 a side, it got pricey fast. And the sides were just average overall. The potatoes were overdone. If the food was one of a kind, then it might have been worth it. There was nothing wrong with it. But also nothing to justify the cost. The view is spectacular, but you are seated so that you have to look sideways to see it. It really is the star of the show, here. Go for lunch, where the food is cheaper, and since it's daylight, the view is even better."
