We have been to Sunset Sam's over the years to celebrate many occasions and as a treat. We have always been pleased. We brought our neighbor as a gift for her. Her meal and my husband's meal were satisfactory. The mahi mahi that I ordered was over-cooked and tough. I didn't want to ruin the occasion so I did not bring it to anyone's attention. I made a mental note to self not to order it in the future.

Good thing I didn't listen to the reviews on Trip Advisor. The menu is not the most extensive, but if you're a seafood lover you will be happy! There are also non-seafood dishes as well. I had the turkey melt with gouda cheese. Yummmy! Great ambience, great music, and excellent service. The only thing I hated was that we had to pay $18 for parking for only two hours.

Waiting staff seemed a bit unprepared for lunch rush after conference session, but was friendly. The manager stepped in to help. Salad didn't seem fresh/cold. The Gaylord Palms atmosphere is always enjoyable.

We have been here quite a few times over the years but the current menu is not exciting (one small underwhelming card) and though tasty the food was not notable. The table next to us had 2 x 8 year old boys who never stopped jumping up and crayoning and generally being distracting and for an evening dinner (2 courses) costing about $75 a head with one glass of wine each you do not expect. The second course came WHILE WE WERE eating the first and had to be sent back. We felt WE were to blame for being slow and then doubted the heat of the food when it came. The waitress was a pleasant automaton. I wanted my friends to be impressed, instead they were not and felt a bit chilly into the bargain from the fierce air con. I won't go again.

5 tables occupied, 3 of them ours with reservations. 20 minutes for a drink, over an hour for the food yet ample and apologetic wait staff. Most of us ordered a salad and an appetizer. Disappointing at these prices.

I met a business colleague who was traveling from out-of-town bere. It was perfect for a business dinner. They loved dining on the boat, and the noise level was perfect. We could have a engaged conversation without worrying about disturbing others, yet we could easily hear. The food was underwhelming. Living ib Florida, I am used to really good seafood at every little shack restaurant you try. I expected to be wowed at Sunset Sams. My guest remarked that the presentation on the tuna tartare looked like cat food. My grouper was dry and lacking in significant flavor. They said their mahimahi was very salty. I would absolutely recommend Sunset Sams for the experience, but I really hope they step up the food.

Having just arrived at the gaylord,we wanted to dine without any fuss after coming in from London.sams has a great laid back feel just as you would expect as it is themed on key west the chill capital of Florida.the menu provided great choice for fish and meat lovers, with children catered for.It has a very comfortable feel with excellent service with nothing to much trouble for the discerning diner.Sit in the pirate ship if you can for a real feel of the keys.Great beers and wine compliment a very good dinning experience.

The service was lousy. The mahi mahi fish entree was tasty overall, however the grouper entree was horrific. The grouper itself was tasty, but was smothered in entirely too much sauce. The accompanying leeks were hard to chew and indigestible. The bench seat had layers of food crumbs between the back and the seat cushion. The tables were dirty and while observing several tables being cleared and reset for the next diners, they were never wiped with any cleaner, just a dry napkin. This restaurant is extremely overpriced for the quality of food, ambiance, service that you would expect from a leading resort hotel. Two entrees, and a fish and chip meal, without alcoholic drinks, including a meager tip was $100. Terrible, terrible experience.

Upon arriving, we were promptly seated, but waited to be asked for a drink order. The wines were overpriced and the water had an abundance of chlorine. With specific food requests, we had asked if the chicken was fried, our waitress replied no, but the chicken arrived with a heavy batter skin to the top and the broccolini was bland and under cooked. When the potatoes arrived, they too were very cold. The rolls that were served were not fresh and cold. My daughter's hamburger was overcooked and hard. This restaurant felt like we paid a great deal off money for disappointment!

It was a fun place to eat, but the fish had no flavor, and tell me about the sides? Service was so good that I felt to bad to tell here the food wasn't worth the price. We spent over $200.00 for dinner and the service and shrimp appetizer were the only good things.

We had a two groups that we scheduled months in advance...a group of 7 and a group of 8. We specifically asked for outside dining and were assured that is what we would receive. Well that was not the case...Oh we could have waited; however it was already past 8:00 and all were hungry. The host was somewhat rude also...I did not like her attitude. I would not recommend this resturant

The Ambience was horrible. My associate who had reservations for 8 people was also put in the same location. We both were very disappointed

The meal was very expensive for what you get. I expected a much better presentation and better quality food. I had also called ahead of time to see if our 13year old could eat a sandwich off the lunch menu and was told yes. When we got there, they said that was not possible.

Since we dine at Sunset Sam's every time we visit the Gaylord Palms resort I have to say that each meal is memorable in its own right. This visit we dined on the pan seared grouper. It was just superb, light moist and full of flavor. The resort is running a "Kids eat free" promotion so that makes it great for the whole family!!

Very small menu. My husband and I went hoping for a romantic honeymoon dinner in a fun atmosphere. We each ordered a different type of fish thinking that even though we had never heard of the ingredients it must be good since we were at a nice restaurant in Florida, but neither one of us could eat it and we love all types of seafood.

Due to bad weather, we were 20 minutes early for our reservation but the restaurant was empty and there was no line at the hostess desk. Hostess was abrupt and said, "I wasn't expecting you for 20 minutes so come back at the time you scheduled your reservation." When we were seated, we were seated inside where there was only one other table with people, the rest of the room was empty! Service was slow, dinner rolls were still frozen and the kids hamburger was mushy, raw in the middle. Our server had a good attitude and 2 our of 6 people in our party really did enjoy their meal. We would not go back or recommend.

Overall our experience wasn't so bad, they accommodated us when we accidentally booked a wrong reservation time online. Server was not very good at all, forgot a lot of our orders and made very obvious fake excuses for them. The food and drinks when we finally received them were great although overpriced. Staying at the Gaylord it is one of the more fairly priced options however. Worth a try if you are at the Gaylord and looking for good seafood-like dishes.

We were three adults and two children and we were seated on the boat, as requested. It was wonderful. Food is a little pricey but all the food at Gaylord Palms, at all the restaurants, is pricey, but the portions were larger then we expected they would be. My granddaughter ordered the Mac & Cheese but did not like it, so they removed it from the bill without us having to ask.

There were 11 of us and the server was very nice and attentive. The food was okay, nothing great but waaaayyyy overpriced. We found this with all the restaurants at The Gaylord Palms. We've been to three of their hotels and found them all pretty much the same. The staff is very nice, all of them but if you have no car, and are forced to eat at only their restaurants, plan on your costs doubling. This was a convention so we didn't pick the place and expect we will end up at another one at some point. I will plan accordingly.

We had lunch at Sunset Sam's and ate on the boat. Our two children loved being able to look in the water and see the fish while they were eating. We had turkey melt, fish tacos and salmon. We all enjoyed our food and the presentation. Our server was exceptionally attentive. My only complaint would be that it was a little pricey. The prices were geared to tourists and conventioneers. Being local, we appreciated the fact that they validated our parking, so we didn't have to pay for parking. It was a fun place to go, but would only come on a special occasion because of the cost.
