Had our anniversary dinner at The Tomato. Almost had the ribeye - - 14 oz w/o bone for $30. I've paid twice that. Instead, I chose the filet and wife had the lamb. No leftovers. Our server Nick was great - - friendly and competent. Crowded, but not too noisy. Frank made wife a great Bellini before dinner. I had a $12 glass of Cab that was great. All good!

The waiter was slow and did not seem to have a good understanding of the menu and options. We ordered wine and appetizers and the wine arrived after we had finished the appetizers and as dinner was being presented. Overall the food was very good (my wife loved the soup and my steak was prepared well), but when the service is slow and inattentive, it takes the edge off a good meal. We will probably try it again, but hope for better service to go along with an good meal.

The outside patio was nice and had so many heaters it was actually warmer than inside on a cool but not cold night. the ambience and menu were good. There was a band inside and VERY loud in there but nice outside. Our waitress was forgetful. The butternut squash soup was NOT good but the rest of our food was good.

Food was great. The waitress was very accommodating to us. Everything was wonderful the only down side is our waitress came back and told me she couldn't get our visa gift are to work, so I had to use cash which I didn't want to do. Lamb was awesome. Cooked to perfection, nice and trimmed Five cheese chicken past, was off the hook

Great place to go for lunch if you don't want to wait for a table. I've been there for dinner and it was packed. The day I went for lunch, there were two other diners. Lots of variety on the menu. Honey cilantro chicken sandwich was tasty but oversauced. Toffee cake tasted good but didn't taste like toffee and texture suggested it wasn't made fresh that day.

Great place! My husband and I were looking for a place half-way between San Diego and Los Angeles so we could meet friends for dinner. Sundried Tomato was easily accessible off the freeway, and the food was delicious! We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend it.

It was the 3rd time to dine here. The service was OK, but food was not as good as it was before. I ordered seafood trio this time again. It was salty and seafood was not that fresh. The portion was much smaller than before. Very disappointed.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2005

The Sundried Tomato is the only decent restaurant inland from San Clemente proper - a fabulous addition to the area. The food is excellent and imaginative, service is generally friendly and very competent. When the weather is good (and it usually is) the outdoor seating area is a delight. Other restaurants in the area have failed because they were poorly executed, not because of any lack of culinary enthusiasm or disposable income. The Sundried Tomato is proof that if you provide a good product, they will come.

    Dined on 2/29/2012
had the restaurant week lunch special. It did not stand out, as special, the sundried tomato hummus, was watery and had little flavor. A mixture of 3 salads for the main course was not different enough to be distinguishable, and they had run out of the chocolate sorbet by the time we ordered. This restaurant can definitely dobetter, and has done so in the past. Good service, the coffee we ordered was cold, and we had to wait for a new pot to be brewed.

It was a big night, and I get that they were overwhelmed, but it was annoying standing waiting for 45 min, while the hostess was telling walk-ins that it was just a 10 min wait. Oh, and they got seated before us, at better tables (I ate with my jacket on because of the draft from the door). Food was pretty good though, and the waiter was trying.

Had a nice meal on Valentine's Day, got a reservation at the last minute thru Open Table. Our food was quite late getting to us but they made amends by removing an entree and appetizer without us even asking. However I do not believe that is a normal thing at all, being Valentine's day they were just bursting at the seems with patrons and orders. The waiter was very nice and extremely apologetic. I will definitely go again... and again.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2011

Came with my boyfriend and 2 friends, we are all fairly young (early 20's) and the waitress literally treated us like we were 12. When we ordered only a bottle of water she said "are you sure you guys don't want like a root beer or something?" um no. She barley checked on us, gave us attitude when she did, forgot my friends wine and just overall treated us bad. If that wasn't bad enough,my friend who ordered the salad with no wontons and dressing on the side, had both on it. And my pasta was overlooked with over cooked chewey veiny chicken. Bad. Just bad.

Great place to go for good food and good portions. Our group had the opah, half chicken and tournedos of beef and we all cleaned our plates! We also had the lemon tart, coconut cheesecake and chocolate bread pudding. The tart was the best- tangy and creamy with meringue to die for. The texture of the cheesecake was too stringy. We would've preferred toasted coconut on top instead of incorporated into cheesecake filling. Bread pudding was too dense but tasted good with lots of the cream poured all over.

Service was somewhat slow, perhaps we hit them on an off day. Not fair to judge on first visit. I will visit again with the thought my next experience will be good.
