SundaOutstanding!I loved the ambiance of Sunda! The food & Service was outstanding! I had the Rock Shrimp tempura dish and the brussel sprout salad. Both were amazing! I will definately be going back.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMLate Lunch at SundaFood, very good. I only rate very good because it was lunch, and to judge accurately I think dinner would be best. But I think it's a great place, the food was wonderful, and the ambience good. The only downside was a very noisy table close to us.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSolid experienceSunda has a very extensive list of great cocktails and appetizers. Sunda is also known for it's long list of sushi options with something for everyone. Our server, Wendy, showed great knowledge of the menu and cocktails and recommended some great dishes. This is a very nice place for small plate, and has something for everyone.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe sushi at Sunda is delicious! The sushi at Sunda is delicious! Recommend the crunchy rice (forget the exact name) and the avocado roll. So good!6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't go for the sushi.OK the sushi was fine. But I ordered the 8.88 daily special - some duck taco/flatbread thing with a spicy ginger dressing - and it was wonderful. It really put to shame the humdrum $17 rainbow roll that honesty was as exciting and "big" as a grocery store packaged one. Really? $17 for an 8-pc roll that's kind of scrawny and has nothing to dress it up? I was more than a little disappointed.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a hitThe drinks were inventive .... standard spirits used with a bit of asian kick to them. The server was super knowledgable - even recommended a roll not on the menu that she said she could get the chefs to make when we told her we did not like a certain fish in our sushi. If you are dying to sit outdoors it's great but not the best view. The rolls wer uh-mazing! Everything perfectly described in the menu. Great for sushi lovers, meat eaters, and vegetarians - they have it all and you won't leave hungry!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome but loudGreat restaurant with great service and really good food. Very loud so if you are looking for a not so noisy restaurant this is not the place. the service and food were extremely great. Would go back in a heartbeat.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent foodThis is the second time I've visited Sunda while in Chicago and I'll absolutely go back. The food and service is consistently great and the atmosphere is fun, too. It gets pretty loud, which makes it difficult for a larger group, but that won't keep me away by any means!6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMSunda, every time!Sunda provides a classy yet comfortable dining experience. I have experienced Sunda in many different settings: date, business meeting, birthday celebration, family dinner, and also with a large group of young professionals... Sunda provides an appropriate setting for each occasion, not to mention the food is to die for!6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAsk for BenThe place is beautiful, but the best of the experience was the great food recommendations and service we received from Benjamin our brittish server6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't go wrongThe menu is extensive, but that is what makes it fun. Everything we had was delicious. You can pick and choose randomly or very methodically. We loved the wagyu and lobster roll and the incredible unagi6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAll the food was delicious. All the food was delicious. I liked our waiter. I believe his was Nolan. We all had a great time!!!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMToo delicious to handleThis restaurant was so unbelievably divine I still cannot handle it. Every dish was more amazing than the last and our waitress shay was an absolutely gem
We will be back6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWelcoming SurpriseIt was my first time at Sunda, I was one of the many that purchased the dinner for two special off of Gilt City and was blown away by both the service and the food.
The menu is set with a choice a salad, 2 appetizers and 2 entrees. The portions were more than enough and the flavors were mouthwatering.
Dessert was included too!
They have an extensive wine list and both draft and bottled beers.
I would definitely come back!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFriendly, helpful service,Friendly, helpful service, great food, love the ambiance. Will be back!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, a great brunchAs always, a great brunch meal at Sunda. I wish I remembered our servers name, he wasn't great. i have always had outstanding and knowledgeable service at Sunda, and this guy was just a little clueless. We used a Gilt City brunch coupon, and he also didnt seem to helpful in our ordering bloody marys or mimosas, and didnt offer coffee (which was included) until we asked.
We order the firecracker roll (AMAZING!!!) and the Braised Pork Belly and Tocino entrees, both were fantastic. The Tocino was a new try for us, and it was great.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMtasty but loudThe service and foode were amazing. My only issue was the noise level. The waiter practically had to holler at us. It was pretty cool though, that there was a famous person sitting behind my husband. I would go back but only for a special occasion.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Place!!!!Oh my gosh! Went there for the first time to celebrate our anniversary. What an amazing place! The service was second to none, and our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and gave excellent suggestions. This is a must try, especially the sprout salad. Thank you for a great evening out!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial Business OccasionThe food and service were fantastic! Very fast service too. The noise level was a bit high so it was hard to hear but we managed in the end. The restaurant was busy ( but not all full) so not sure if being at a different table would have made it better. Maybe it was the acoustics of the place. I would definitely try it again next time I am in Chicago!!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly recommendVibrant scene. High end bar/restaurant. Food is outside the "box". Place for dates or people watch and converse. Server Wendy spot on, let her choose our whole dinner. She was wonderful.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMa Chicago gem!The best rock shrimp tempura ever. Wonderful service. A bit on the noisy side - not for the romantic dinner.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderfulwe did the five-course chef's tasting menu through a Gilt City deal and loved it! had been there one time before and the second time was just as good. favorites were the wagyu beef roll and pig sticks. pad thai was also good but the shrimp was just ok, lacking in flavor. mochi for dessert with dipping sauces was great.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh school graduation party succesWe had a small group off eight people with family and kids with their friends. It was fantastic as it offered many menu options for people who didn't even eat fish. The fish was fantastic and so was the sushi. The waitress was great and was very accommodating of our request. Must go!!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSunda ReviewSunda was very good, while during a monsoon outside.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious Asian fusion brunchI went for brunch on a Sunday on a gilt city voucher and will be back soon. Their brunch menu includes an east meets west flare with some traditional western options (we had the veggie eggs benedict-delicious!) and eastern fusion (we tried the braised pork belly on fried rice patties with eggs - like an eggs benedict with a twist). The Bloody Mary bar was also creative and wonderful. Our server recommended great dishes and was very attentive. Next time, I'll try their baos on the menu's dim sum section.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome PlaceThis place is underrated. The food is incredible and they take care of industry people. I think anyone who likes sushi and good drinks should try this place out. Its not played out and the food can stand alone. It gets busy and has a great vibe. I will be back. I wish I remembered my servers name because he was awesome... sorry buddy.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, fantastic foodAs always, fantastic food and service. The room was VERY, VERY LOUD the night we were there. There was clearly a private party, and they used the sushi bar area as their "cocktail" reception before moving to the private room downstairs. It was TOO LOUD while they were there. The noise level went down dramatically once they moved, but I was literally yelling at my husband right across the table!
The food was amazing as always... but all I can think about was the noise this time. :(5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThanks, Sunda! We hit Sunda for an early dinner/late lunch celebration for my friend's 17th birthday/happy college visiting, and we couldn't have had a better time. The group consisted of two moms and our teen kids, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Our server (evan? austin?) was attentive and had great suggestions for food and beverage, and helped us to order just the right amount and combinations of dishes, from restaurant faves to standards that the group likes. Our 17 year old friend loved getting a slice of cake and a signed card from the Sunda crew, and he & his mom definitely plan to come back on their next visit to Chicago. I will be back with my whole family, for sure !5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat!Highly recommended by friends and was not disappointed. The place has great food, great wait staff and energy all around. We will be back!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMI love Sunda! An absolute culinary dream. Wonderful staff, lots of great people watching. Exceptional food and variety5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMEast Meets WestCame for brunch with friends for my birthday. Unless you're an adventurous eater, do not order the Bloody Mary Bar. You will find the items not normally found in a Bloody Mary, like eel. A friend had lychee mimosa and it was refreshing. Also, took quite awhile for our waiter to bring our drinks. Most of the food was tasty, except for the tocino with crispy rice patties and oxtail dumplings. The crispy rice patties, in my opinion, were a little over done and it was hard to eat the rice and just stuck to my teeth. As for oxtail dumplings, even though there were plenty of meat in dumplings, all you can taste is the dough. Surprised they didn't have many other juice selections, except for usual orange juice and cranberry juice.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMover it was great.Food tasted great, very unique and the crowd had lots of energy. A little too loud. Ok for us but my parents would have had problems. Some plates we tried were very greasy, contradicting the wholesome sushi feel.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunchBrunch was excellent. The bloody mary's are definitely worth getting as well! Service was outstanding.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSolid For any occasionIf you come to Sunda you will not be dissapointed. The family style menu makes the menu attractive because you can check out various items on their menu. We had the tom kha gai, which was a HUGE portion. It was a great way to start things off, we then ordered the FIRECRACKER roll which was by far my favorite item we ordered. We also ordered egg noodles and topped it off with the chefs special desert which changes every night.
Service was quick and overall I would suggest and hope to repeat soon.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food and service. Too loud.Menu is based on a pan-Asian tapas concept which is well delivered and creative. The only problem is that the noise level is off the charts! I could not hear the person across from me at a 4-top table on Fri night. Put some acoustic dampening in the corners to take noise down a notch. If there is one reason I won't go back it is the noise, everything else was great.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMTwice Was Not Enoughi fell in love with this place so much that i went every day on my stay in chicago..great service, really good food and deserts..lovely spot to meet the locals5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything about the diningEverything about the dining experience exceeded our expectations. Don't know what happened to all those people who wrote negative reviews, but unless you have a problem with loud noise levels, this is definitely a go-to and go-back place! The Brussels sprout salad and the shrimp tempura are exceptional - each bite a treat. We were told that the appetizer potions were small but, on the contrary, were generous. The cocktails were inventive and delicious and each dish flying by us looked as appealing as the next. Great to go with at least four people in order to be able to try many dishes - we were two but we went a little overboard anyway. Will definitely go back on our next visit to Chicago.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe pork belly and crispyThe pork belly and crispy pata entrees was amazing, as were the cocktails.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and serviceI've been to Sunda a couple of times, and the food and service are always amazing. The night we went to Sunday with my dad for a late dinner. There was an extremely loud group of women, and the sound carries in the space. It was quite distracting while we were trying to enjoy the delicious food we ordered. It definitely took away from the experience, but not the food or staff.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMDynamic Asian Fusion Small Plates! This was my second visit to this restaurant. I love getting many small plates to share. The Brussels Sprout salad is one of the best appetizers I've ever had. Everything on the menu is good. This time, we tried the Pig Sticks (pork belly on a skewer), Pork Fried Rice, Oxtail pot stickers, and Seven Spice Fried Chicken. All good. Desserts also very good and an impressive wine list. Phenomenal experience.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat placeThe place is great. Great food, great service, great atmosphere, was cheaper than i expected which is always nice. Nice selection of food too - a little different but not too out there. Nice change. Would definitely go back.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant. We went for lunch on Mother's Day. Food was excellent. Service was great. They served the dinner menu not the brunch menu. Deffinitly a Do Not Miss kink of place. Highly recommended.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMNeeded a different waiter, however,Sunda continues to be my favorite restaurant! The food and atmosphere are always perfect no matter the occasion. I regret that our waiter seemed to be missing most of the night. However, given our table location, there was enough other staff to pick up his flaws!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways Love SundaWe went there for Mother's Day lunch. Service was very good for a busy River North restaurant. Moses was our waiter and he was very attentive. I had the pork entree and my son had the chicken entree. I always order the sushi, but this time decided to also try the regular menu. NOTE: the entrees are for SHARING. We ordered an entree each and ended up bringing more than half home. So, if you are not a heavy eater, I would definitely split a plate with your companion. Oh, and the chocolate mousse cake (yes, I made room for dessert) is yummy! Overall, Sunda, we will back - always!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFantasticA friend suggested Sunda as a date spot. We were certainly not disappointed. We arrived early for our reservation but were still seated right away. The staff was very friendly and our server chun was very friendly. He knew the menu backwards and forwards. He suggested the firecracker roll and lobster wagyu roll which were both top notch. We also tried the red dragon and spider rolls. They were both really nice, but I still cannot get over how good the first two were. The prices are very reasonable considering the setting, and quality. I would definitely make another a visit.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreatfrom cocktails to the last bite, absolutely amazing.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding food from startOutstanding food from start to finish. More like an Aisian Tapas restaurannt.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways goodI've been to Sunda a few times now, and the only reason I didn't rate it as 5 stars is because my friend picked most of what we ordered. The best thing there is still the crunchy pig hidden lobster roll. But I thought everything else we had wasn't as exciting as it has been in the past. Any thing with tuna tar tar on it is fantastic. Fried rice was pretty amazing. The dynamite stick egg rolls were very underwelming. When I go back I'd stick to sharing a couple of appitzers and more adventerous sushi rolls.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOut of towners visitWe had a party of five meeting from various cities. Heard this was a good place. It was definitely hopping. Sushi was good as well as the service.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways Wonderful!I have now dined at Sunda twice, and being a lover of all Chicago food, I can safely say that my meals at Sunda are some of the best I've eaten in Chicago this year. The atmosphere is lively and energetic and makes guests feel like they are truly dining out on the town. I have never seen so many beautiful people, as in Sunda. They are always dressed to the nines. There service is wonderful and the waiters are always friendly, and attentive. The Brussels Sprouts Salad is to die for along with the delicious specialty cocktails. however, the highlight for me is always the Ridiculous, carrot cake dessert. Of all the delicious desserts I've had, this is definitely in my top 5 EVER. I highly recommend Sunda for a special girls night out.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
