Diner Reviews
  • "Enjoyed our experience. Good wine. Attentive service. Two different dishes - one excellent and one so-so. really liked the relaxed atmosphere. We'll find a time to go back, even though it's a pretty long trip."

  • "The food is the STAR here! Excellent variety and all well prepared. The best meatloaf and mashed potatoes you will ever taste....even better than my wife's! The fried chicken looked delicious, so will return to try that. Helpful wait staff as well."

  • "Really enjoyed the meal. We shared crab cakes for a starter. Entrees were short ribs and scallops. Delicious. The only real complaint is the teeny tiny tables they have for 2 people. The design prevents you from being able to get your legs comfortably positioned under the table. And we are not large people. But that would'nt keep us away. Food is great!"

  • "We love SIMB! The food is excellent, the wait staff is attentive and nice and we always enjoy ourselves in this relaxed atmosphere. The menu has a nice range of dishes and the flavors are always rich and interesting. One of my favorites in all of Atlanta!"

  • "My friend and I wanted a place where the food was good, not too expensive, quiet enough for us to talk. yet at the same time lively in its own way. This restaurant met these wishes very well. We also liked the live acoustic guitar, which was very skillful and nice to listen to, and not so loud that you could not chat with your dining mate. It would be nice if desserts from the adjoining bakery room would be offered automatically. My dairy-averse friend could not order either dessert offered, so she asked for and received a delicious cookie from the bakery."

  • "Fun neighborhood jewel and worth the drive if it is not your neighborhood. We feasted on arugula salad with slices of grapefruit and avocado, the geisha salad, short ribs and horseradish encrusted beef and licked our plates clean. Thoughtful selection of beers and wines that will not break the bank account are available. Service was a little slow but they were very busy on a Friday night and we did not feel ignored."

  • "This gem is located a couple miles from the main Decatur Square area, but is definitely worth hitting! We were running a bit late for our reservation (highly recommended on weekend nights) but the staff was understanding and held our table for us. We were promptly seated and our waiter was very patient and helpful with questions re the menu and their "supper club" four-course prix fixe offering. The "small bites" mussels were delicious, not overly seasoned. My date's sea scallops and my short ribs from the "big bites" menu both melted in our mouths and were perfect, as were the recommended wine pairings. Great ambiance and staff made for a great meal!"

  • "Great menu choice and food was awesome! Quaint, small and tight; very noisey."

  • "We were a party of 5 for a birthday. All the dishes were very good. Service was good and attentive. Unfortunately we were in the dining room with the music on a Friday night (only night they have music) and it was a very LOUD. Too loud to converse with the group. This was a huge distraction and took away from an otherwise nice dinner. If you want to go on a Friday night, strongly suggest sitting in another of the dinning rooms."

  • "Had not been in awhile and first time for dinner. Great food and service. If you're tired of the fast food and pub food scene go to this place for a nice meal. Feels like you at a friends house."

  • "Sat outside with friends from out of town. Food was terrific. One friend doesn't like spicy food so she scraped off the pimento cheese from the fried green tomatoes. I loved the spice. So did our other friend. Sadly our server was less than attentive. That is not my usual experience here so I was very disappointed. Won't stop me from going back!"

  • "Loved the food! It was delicious!. For starters, we had the hummus and it was great. I had the Flank Steak, medium rare, which was so tasty! The Geisha salad had limited fruit - it was so-so. My husband ordered the Pork Chop and loved it but my friend who ordered the lamb burger said it was dry. From the time we sat down though, it took an hour to get our entrees...a bit slow. Then I hope this was an oversight on the waiter's part but we gave him half cash and half card and he took the cash and charged the whole bill on the card. LIke I said,, I hope it was an oversight but for that reason and the hour wait for the entree, I will give service 1 star."

  • "The ambience was very comfortable and casual ... the waiting area being set up like a living room made it feel like you were eating at a friend's house ... the salads were light and terrific ... the short ribs were delicious"

  • "One of my favorite spots. I am never disappointed in the food. The supper club selections are also delicious and I love that you can do the fixed menu or order them a large carte. Great place to have delicious food near Decatur."

  • "a treasure of a find and worthy of many acclaims, it was one of my best dining experiences in Atlanta. Music, ambiance, flavor, service ... everything impeccable!"

  • "I love this place, so it's hard to talk poorly about it. For me, I've learned that service can't ALWAYS be amazing. I've been here time and time again and even if there is a wait or service is a little off, I still find it well worth going. I discovered this place through a Scoutmob dinner deal for 2 that includes 2 salads, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, dessert and either a bottle of wine or glass for each person. Going there with this discount one time won me and my girlfriend over! If Scoutmob has this deal - it is by far the best deal in town, WORTH EVERY PENNY - usually I buy two to have one in the bag. But even if you don't have the Scoutmob deal its definitely worth it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place!"

  • "Food was great. Featured jar app was the bomb and they brought veggies with it along with the bread for the gluten-fee person. Service was average to poor. Our server forgot our 2nd glass of wine order twice and then we had a very long wait for the check. Water glasses were never refilled until the manager walked by and offered to fill them after the meal. Overall good food and atmosphere."

  • "My overall SIMB experience was great! The only draw back was that we came on the first Sunday of the month, which was advertised as a jazz brunch. Well, once we got there it wasn't very "jazzy"! I'm from New Orleans, so I know a jazz brunch when I see one! When we arrived there was one guy on a guitar. The music wasn't really jazz in it's truest sense. And, we were seated in a separate room three rooms back from where the music was, so we couldn't hear it! I recommend working on this! But otherwise, the food was great, the ambience was nice and we had a great dining experience! The PBLT and pimento omelet were delicious!"

  • "Sun in my belly is a great neighborhood place. We live nearby and go often. The good is always great If you happen to hand a scoutmob,it is an amazing deal for the money. It is casual yet fun!"

  • "We used the Scout Mob deal over the weekend. First of all the sign for the restaurant is just awful. It is hard to read and looks a lot like a for lease sign. But do not let that detour you. The food at Sun In My Belly is very good. We especially liked the salad that included dates and feta cheese. The Crab cakes were also very good. The environment reminded me of eating in Berkley California. This place has a real Beatnik vibe. The staff is friendly yet unpolished. We really enjoyed the experience and would visit again."

  • "We had no trouble making and then changing our Sunday morning brunch reservation for a dozen people. The server was wonderfully attentive. The food arrived hot, delicious, and in a timely manner. The noise level was low enough for everyone at the table to hear each other, even the full length of the table. The menu has some wonderfully unique twists to old favorites. Seasoning was well balanced, noticeable yet not overwhelming."

  • "Although it is a bit on the pricy side, it was well worth it! I love that they have the suggested wine pairings written beneath the item."

  • "We purchased Scoutmob's Hand-Picked deal ($39.00) to go back to SIMB. On our first visit my wife chose the flank steak with chimichurri sauce and it was so good that we had to have it again. This time we both ordered the dish and we weren't disappointed. It was accompanied by spinach and a yuca/squash combination that looked and tasted just like mashed potatoes. I had the suggested wine accompaniment which went very well with the dish. My wife began with the lettuce wedge salad and I had the Lucy salad. We both preferred the Lucy salad with its crunch and tasty lemon vinaigrette dressing. The lettuce wedge salad dressing taste was too woodsy/earthy for us. We split the peach cobbler for dessert and it was excellent! SIMB is a winner."

  • "We took advantage of a ScoutMob coupon too, and had a great time. Food was delish. Our server was knowledgeable and right on top of our needs. Cute neighborhood place in Decatur. Well worth the drive from Norcross. We'll go back!"

  • "I have eaten here many times before and getting a table is always a bit of a wait, but this was the first time I had made a reservation. We still hadn't been seated 30 minutes later and it took reminding to get a seat. After that the food was awesome as always and the back room was quieter, so we could hear each other talk."

  • "We celebrated my birthday and I can't imagine a nicer experience. The food was excellent from start to finish for all four of us. Some favorite highlights were the grits cake, the Lucy salad which was chopped kale thinly sliced apples and onions, pumpkin seeds and an amazing dressing, the salmon, and meatloaf plate. The overall experience was wonderful and I would highly recommend Sun in My Belly to my friends, in fact I already have!"

  • "Sun in My Belly is always a good choice very intimate dining tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. The staff is always so friendly and ready to lend suggestions regarding the menu. I have dined at this restaurant on several occasions but on this time I used a Scout Mob which was a steal for what was offered. I had the Braised short ribs which were melt in your mouth and my date had the Shrimp and grits which he enjoyed thoroughly especially being he is from SC. Every time there is a Scoutmob listed for Sun in My Belly I will purchase not to say that I wouldn't go back otherwise because I also just learned that they now have live music on Fridays starting at 6:30 so I will definitely be hanging out more in the cozy restaurant."

  • "We've eaten frequently at Sun In My Belly and the food is always fantastic. Unfortunately, this time service wasn't quite up to par and so we had to wait an hour for entrees. The manager was kind enough to comp our appetizer and noted that the wait time was "unacceptable". We'll definitely go back, feels like this was an anomaly and was handled relatively well."

  • "I knew that this restaurant is popular for brunch, which is part of why we made a reservation (the other being that we had a larger group- 10+ a toddler). Even with the reservation, I think it was 45 minutes that it took for us to be sat. I'm going to assume from now on that I shouldn't plan to go here with a group. The food was good (it was nice that we could get breakfast and lunch foods so there was a mix) and the server did well with our group. They were very good to our toddler, getting her a plate of food ASAP. They did come over and check on us a few times when we were waiting for a table to let us know it was being worked on, but it still put a damper on the rest of the dining experience. They seemed a little overwhelmed."

  • "I first put Sun in My Belly on my short list when i went for brunch and had their amazing French toast. I love French toast and have had many varieties but this one tops the list. Now they are open for dinner and the food is just as delightful. The server offered me a beer and wine list while i waited. Made great suggestions and remained attentive aduring our entire visit."

  • "My partner and I went to dinner here for Valentine's Day. The food was fantastic (try the Fez Burger and the Fried Green Tomatoes) and the service was fantastic, especially for the price point. Entrees are about $10-16 and a bottle of wine will only cost you about $25, but it feel like a much fancier place. Great date on a budget!"

  • "I've had brunch here on several occassions and loved it. I had heard dinner was good and had been meaning to go for awhile but hadn't gotten around to it. It didn't dissappoint. Their menu is creative and the food is fresh. Everything was absolutely amazing and the service was great. I would definitely go back again. I had a 4 course meal and glass of wine for just at $50 (after tip) which I think is phenomenal."

  • "When my date and I arrived we were a bit skeptical but once we entered the building, the ambiance took our brwath away. Great service, very intimate dining experience. Would recommend to couples. I love this place and I will be back for breakfast, I want to try the hangover: -("

  • "We went early on a Saturday evening. My group, which included my tween and teen daughters, really enjoyed the experience and the food. I would describe the place as fancy rustic, interesting but unpretentious. I can see why it's so popular."

  • "Food was awesome. Very unique, best fried green tomatoes and creme brulee I've ever had. The server seemed very frazzled and lost though. She took a long time with our order and check, and she messed up some of the order of the table next to us. The tables were a little cramped, as well. Next time, I may just get the food to go, but I loooooved the food."
