Diner Reviews
  • "With a table for 6, we were not seated immediately adjacent to the windows, which I knew to expect from past visits. (Only tables for 4 are at the outer edge by the windows.) However, what we all found very odd was that they were not at all busy when we arrived 11:45, yet they seated us exactly across the aisle from a table of two at the window, so we constantly had to look at them to enjoy the view (and they had to hear our conversation). We thought they were expecting a huge rush at noon, but although others did come in during our meal, no-one was seated in the half dozen window or inner aisle tables we were adjacent to... so we don't understand why we weren't spaced out more. The food was all delicious- some interesting choices !!"

  • "The atmosphere was very nice and relaxing and what you would expect at a 5 Star Restaurant. Do not worry about the cost because you are not there for the food alone but for the complete experience, the ambience, the cloud 9 view. What an experience."

  • "The Sun Dial was the perfect place for my wife and I to celebrate her birthday. The only problem that we experienced was that it was very cloudy out, so it took away are view. I will definitely be going again."

  • "The service was great we had a waiter by the name of Jeff he was really good. The food was good I had steak my wife had the pork chop. The price point was decent compared to other resteraunts with similar food and atmosphere it is a but higher but your paying for the novelty of the spinning view. If you go be sure it's on a clear night and that it has not rained. We were so high up that the fog obstructed the view due to the weather."

  • "This was such a letdown. The food wasn't great. My filet was burnt on top, my fiancé's pork chop was tough and the desserts were obviously pre-made. The fact that I paid $150 for that is bad enough but the service was terrible. It was a two and a half hour visit because our server would disappear for 30 minutes at a time. Not to mention he would go visit other tables 4 times before stopping at ours. And he left our finished plates on the table for 30 minutes before getting them!!!!!! I will never return. This place was a joke."

  • "I wanted something special for my husband's 77th birthday. Had been to Sun Dial years ago and it was great. Waited for food and had to send it back. Expensive. Not worth $$. Even charged for water!!! Never again!"

  • "Amazing place with an awesome view. Food and service were equally good."

  • "Food was very overpriced. My husbands and I went this Sat night for our 16th anniversary. We shared the chicken for two dinner. The chicken was a large portion, although bland in taste. The mashed potatoes were not good and tasted like instant. The Mac and cheese was also very bland. For the amount of money we expected much better good. We went last year and the food was better tasting. Loved the views though and was able to catch fireworks from the college games. There was a family in front of us asking to have presents on their table. The manager told them it was a fire hazard. He seemed very stern with them and it was uncomfortable to witnesses. We felt bad and ruined the romantic mood."

  • "I made these reservations for my wife's birthday since we were in town. Even before we got to the restaurant everyone was very rude. We called to let them know that we would be arriving late and the man on the phone said with attitude "well there's nothing I can do with your reservation. If you get here late we can't hold it. Bye" and hung up. We were lucky enough to get another reservation on our way over. We finally get there and I told the waiter it was my wife's birthday. He didn't seem to care and throughout our whole dinner was more engaged with another table. He even sang them happy birthday with the chef and didn't do anything for my wife. Worst place ever. I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone."

  • "The food was delicious and the service was en pointe, yet the sweeping 360-degree view of Atlanta was the most impressive part of the experience. We were there in the early evening when it remained light out, but would love to return to see it at night. My son's beef filet tender and came with lovely accompaniments. My lamb was impeccably prepared, but could have benefited from more than just a smear of several flavors and some random green peas floating around the plate. His molten cake and my fried apple pies were beautifully presented as desserts. Overall, a lovely evening and we would definitely return."

  • "One thing that make me come back to any place is the customer service and I can say from the hostesses to my waiter Michael it was an awesome experience which definitely means I will be coming back."

  • "The restaurant is breathtaking. The 72nd floor restaurant provides a 360 view of the entire city, great staff, and a four seasons menu. I could not say anything bad! Then... dessert came. The fried apple pie with vanilla and vanilla bean ice cream lacked gourmet taste. The ice cream was okay, controversy ruptured with the fried apple pie. The store bought taste became apparent. Please remove this from the menu."

  • "I had high expectations, I was under the impression this was a restaurant catering to the upper echelons of Atlanta. Naturally, I expected perfection. There was a faint musky smell, similar to the smell of public bathrooms, or stale carpet cleaner. A stain was revealed on the white table cloth when the two other place settings were removed. The wine glasses were speckled with lint and one of them had a crack in the glass. Part of my dish was lukewarm and as a big foodie and self proclaimed chef there were some things I would have done differently on the plate. My dinner date enjoyed her meal, dessert was very good. The waiter was knowledgeable, professional and very friendly, which made the entire experience a pleasant one."

  • "The service and food was excellent, I visited the Sundial about 20 years ago and it was not up to par. This time it was wonderful. It is sad that some people (guest) think it is okay to always dress like slobs. I realize the staff can not do anything about the dress code - but people should at least wear long pants - the cut-offs should be saved for the beach."

  • "This was a birthday dinner celebration for my friend and the entire experience from the time we arrived until we left was awesome. The scenic view of the city was just beautiful. Our waitress, Ms Ann was the most plesant. Would definitely visit again. Also become a Starwood guest member to receive your discount and points."

  • "Sundial food was A+ I recommend the filet of beef very juicy and succulent the salmon was a bigger piece of meat of the two however it was a tad bit dry I prefer my salmon with some sauce while this piece of meat had none. I did dip the salmon in the chilli sauce that comes on the shrimp and potato salad appetizer (which I highly recommend) and that gave it a whole new taste. If I did order the salmon again I would ask them to add this on it. Overall the meals were priced $38-60 for the entrée and appetizers around $13-20 so the meal was a bit pricey but for the view and food it wasn't that bad. I would go back here again but only for special occasions as the prices are to high for my liking but I would recommend you try once!"

  • "What a let down. The restaurant could have been a top pick due to the senic view, however the food was so bad I had to write this review to wake up management. The Ahi tuna appetizer was frozen from sorbet on top & terrible. Filet Mignon was a disgrace, tiny, not hot,and too salty. The interior was tired & the restrooms were dirty. The head of the restaurant was made aware of this and his response was to offer a complimentary dessert next time I visited. I am not going back, so the free dessert offer is worth nothing to me, and I spent $350 for 4 people.......very disappointed, but I found a great replacement, the new Polaris at the Hyatt which is a revolving restarant with excellent food & service....we visited twice."

  • "I took my gentleman on a date there and it was awesome, we didnt get an appetizer but maybe we should of because the food took a little longer than we expected, other than that, the food tasted esquisite and our server Nadea was awesome. my boyfriend said it was the best date ever!"

  • "Mike was our waiter, extremely friendly and polite. Being a college student, it is sometimes hard to be viewed as an adult at upscale restaurants. This was not the case at the Sun Dial, everyone was polite and welcoming. The bread before the meal was fresh, the wine selection was substantial, the "Fish of the Moment" was well done, and the Creme Brulee was tasty. Also, the view was spectacular. It was fun to look at Atlanta from such a tall hotel."

  • "Even with our reservation, our table wasn't ready for another hour. The valet parking situation was awful, so plan 20-30 extra minutes for that. The food was o.k., but not as good as it was a few years ago. We had a very good server and the view is beautiful. I'd go again."

  • "Sitting in a rotating venue from one of Atlanta's tallest buildings is breathtaking. The onion tart was fantastic, unique to any other tart I've had. The mountain trout was just good, I've had better for a cheaper price. The same with New York strip. Other than being a little loud to have a quiet conversation, the atmosphere is great couple with the rotating view. I think the price reflects the service and atmosphere more than the quality of food. But it's definitely worth a try on a nice weeknight."

  • "My parents used to take me to the Sun Dial everytime we visited Atlanta for the Gift & Accessories market. Last summer when it was being rennovated, I was terribly upset that I didn't get to take my daughter there. We finally made it back again this July and she got to have the same great experience I've had many times. It's still awesome!"

  • "The food was very good. The view is amazing. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. My only complaints are first the host/hostess. They were very rude and the hostess looked disheveled. Her hair was a mess and she kept scratching her head. Due to our interaction she refused to seat me and kept giving me dirty looks and making comments under her breath when she would walk past my table seating other people. Second we were in a bit if a hurry because we had a musical to attend. We let the waiter know ahead of time and it was still very slow to get our food. We had to skip dessert to barely make it to the musical on time and I allowed ample time for dinner."

  • "The Sun Dial has never let me down. The service can be a little slow, but it's OK because you are at the Sun Dial to enjoy the company, view, and food. The menu (but not the staff) is a little pretentious and wordy. The next time, I plan to take a picture of the description so that I can remember what I ordered! It doesn't really matter because it is always good. I enjoy the mountain trout for dinner. This time we were there for lunch. My friend ordered the brie sandwich. I had the salmon sandwich. Both were delicious. I asked if the kitchen could prepare chips without salt. They did. The tables near the windows are for parties of 4 or less. Larger groups are on the inside isle."

  • "Only negative is that I would prefer the restaurant enforce the evening dress code. You want to feel like you're in a classy, upscale place, but the guy in cargo shorts and a t-shirt a couple tables away definitely took some of that away. Aside from that it was great food, great service, great view. We were seated in the perfect spot for our 8:00 PM reservation. We were able to see the daytime skyline, sunset, then nighttime skyline without getting up from our table."

  • "This has to be one of the most expensive restaurants in Atlanta. I've eaten here many times before the restaurant was renovated and the prices were high but the view and the service was great. Now the prices are just insane. Yes the views are great, but let's get a grip, it's not the Eiffel Tower!"
    Dined on 7/7/2014
  • "The view is unmatched, as was our service. My filet, highly recommended and $55/serving, higher than I've ever paid anywhere by a lot, was overcooked I could have sent it back and should. My Georgia clams, which I expected to be at least moderate-sized and meaty, were the tiniest cherrystones I'd ever seen, there were 5 of them, hardly even an appetizer. My husband however was extremely pleased with his garlic shrimp appetizer and strip steak. We ordered cocktails, one of which came not to order, and house wines, which were fine. Prices were exorbitant for the level of food. Would still do it again, perhaps for lunch or brunch."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary there because we wanted to go somewhere spacial. Our dinner was very good, and the view was fantastic. We would definitely recommend this to others. A little disconcerting initially sharing the elevator with lots of tourists for the upper level viewing but after entering the dining level it was pleasant."
