The sushi was good. A little pricey. Should try at least once and judge for yourself.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2013

We went on Valentine's Day, so we expected it to be busy. We arrived 10 minutes after our reservation time due to traffic, and the manager checking us in seemed irritated by this, almost to a point where we weren't sure if she was going to give us our table. After being seated we could hear several tables around us complaining that they had been waiting for an hour without any food. Service that night was not the best, but our server was nice. The quality of the 2 rolls of sushi was sub-par, and the appetizer (Volcano Salad) was okay. The 2nd roll was just bad. There is a difference between not satisfying and bad, and the roll was clearly the latter. IMO, this place is overrated.

  • Love this neighborhood restaurant.

Love this neighborhood restaurant. Great food with huge menu. Love the wine prices. Servers are very warm and attentive but service does slow dramatically the busier it gets. Would also like it if all the food could be served to table at same time. We often have to wait on one or two meals to be delivered. Other than that I'm glad to see a neighborhood restaurant doing so well.

Fantastic Valentine's Day dinner with oyster shooters and sushi for me and hibachi style cooking for my sweetie. A real fun and delectable restaurant.

The sushi was fresh and yummy. The batter on the tempura was heavy compared to others that I have had and like. Service was fantastic and timing of the food delivery was good. My first impression was skeptical because I knew the building was previously an all you can eat buffet. When you step inside they have made a lot of improvements to hide the fact the previous establishment was a buffet. I would definitely recommend trying this place!

We went to Sumo to celebrate my husband's birthday. We ate in the hibatchi room. We didn't try the sushi, but from what we saw on others plates, it looked really good. We enjoyed our food, the kids loved the show, and I feel like we got a lot of food for the money. We want to come back again to try the sushi.

  • A Hidden Treasure
    OpenTable Diner Since 2005
    Dined on 9/25/2012
Sumo Sushi is a hidden treasure in Livermore. There have been several restaurants that went out of business in the same location so we were skeptical. We were wrong! The sushi was excellent and the presentation was amazing. The chef drizzled sauce on our plates to make a butterfly and a bird. This is something you'd find in San Francisco. The only reason I have not rated it 5 stars instead of 4 stars is we were a group of seven - some had sushi - some had the hibatchi dinners. The food was only lukewarm for those of us who had the hibatchi dinners. Other than that - a 5 star experience. We will definitely go back!

We went to try out the new Hibachi tables and it was like "dinner and a show". Luckily we had a party of 6 and went to dinner early so didn't have to share a table. The parties that were smaller had to share tables with other parties (so parties of 2 shared with other parties of 2 and 3 to fill up a table for 8). The fried rice was delicious and all the entrees were cooked to perfection. I would definitely do it again. Between the sushi side and the hibachi side, this restaurant is a hit! My only complaint is that the soup is not my favorite and neither is the ginger salad dressing, both of which are included in the hibachi dinners. The salad is a little tricky to eat with chopsticks, but each place had a fork so that was good.

  • A Colossal Disappointment
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 6/17/2012
Made a reservation but had to wait for EVER to be seated, then service was at a snail's pace. One of our party got their food after everyone else was finished eating. The food itself was mediocre at best. Too much stuff on every roll to really be able to experience any of the actual fish. Staff was friendly but not apologetic for the wait and made no mention of the delayed order.

This was our first visit and we were not sure what to expect and were pleasantly surprised. Not being sushi experts, we appreciated that there were pictures of the food on the menu. The terriaki chicken meal was excellent and the terriaki beef box dinner (meat, sushi, kebob, rice, potsticker, ginger & wasabi) was wonderful. There was so much food we had to take some of it home. The sushi plates were so artistically presented we took pictures of everything. The Alligator roll (eel) was especially pretty. Everything served to the table from the first appetizer to the last entree was fresh, delicious, and delightfully presented. We will definitely be back. We were a party of 7.
