A word from Summit House Restaurant
For Centuries the English Inn has earned a great reputation for Friendly faces, cozy rooms and cheery firesides. As soon as guests come to the Inn, the charming host and hostesses run to greet them. In front of a crackling fire one can partake of good hearty fare - the tankard is always full - the spit hung with roasting beefs - and a table heaped with sweets and such. The Inn keepers of the Summit House were inspired by the custom to create a hospitable place where friends could meet to eat, drink and delight in the views of North Orange County's countryside. To one and all, welcome!Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The only complaint is the noise level. Six people at the table on the main floor. Talking to three after the dinner mentioned that the noise level was so high that they could not hear the person sitting next to them. The tables were close together. Perhaps some noise reduction material on the ceilings would help."

  • "We celebrate our wedding anniversaries there. This was our sixth one. Food, service, view, all good. Prices are higher than before, but worth every bit of it. Will be returning."

  • "One of the only really nice restaurants that is open for lunch. Romantic and great food"

  • "I was a first time customer, recommended to me by a friend, it was an excellent experience for my and my wife, as i was looking for a great place to take my wife on her birthday."

  • "The Summit House is a great place for lunch. The restaurant has a lovely ambience, good service and good food all at the typical Orange County price level (i.e. high). Highly recommend as the location for a casual lunch with friends and family."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 53rd anniversary there this week. We've been going there for many years for special occasions. We believe the restaurant has never faltered in their food and service over those years and has probably improved."

  • "The main dining hall is expansive and sedate (upon opening for dinner). The piano playing was pleasant and unobtrusive. As the tables filled throughout the evening the sound level increased but remained at a level that allowed relaxed conversation across a broad, round table. The service was somewhat informal but efficient and professional. The wine list has been reasonably rounded out to complement the food courses offered. Of the food, the double rib pork chop stood out for preserving a flavorful tenderness within a fully cooked through meat. The English trifle dessert topped off a celebratory evening with swirls of moist, rum infused pastry separated by veins of custard and strawberries that combined into a taste delight."

  • "The food was superb, the service exemplary. The view is a bonus, but overall, this is my favorite restaurant."

  • "Enjoyed our dinner and the exceptional service. Great atmosphere for a special event and an excellent choice for a great meal and a business discussion. Probably one of the best places you can go for Prime Rib!"
    Dined on 8/21/2014
  • "I always question why, especially in steak houses, are the steak knives almost as sharp as the butter knives? Also, why is good warm bread served with butter that is so hard it can't be cut or spread?"

  • "In addition to the excellent food, great view, enjoyable ambiance and attentive service, we were treated to extra kindnesses because it was our anniversary. We received a beautiful card signed by all the staff and a lovely dessert we had not expected. This is one of the best restaurant experiences ever, particularly the prime rib and the creamed corn. We have never had better."

  • "Great restaurant. Great food, service and food. We did have to wait 15 minutes past our reservation time before being seated, however, and it was very loud and crowded, but overall it was good."

  • "The prime rib and Halibit fish were wonderful along with the oviounce"

  • "We were seated promptly for lunch on our visit and the staff was very friendly and courteous. Our server was excellent and helpful. Summit House met or exceeded our expectations and we were very satisfied with our experience."

  • "My family and friends enjoyed our evening except for one thing, no vegetarian options were available. This was very disappointing and when we asked our server all she could offer was mac and cheese and brussel sprouts with BACON."
    Dined on 8/13/2014
  • "Service was slow. Had to ask for water. We were seated quickly. Prime Rib was a little chewy. Why does the review have to be at least fifty characters in length?"
    Dined on 8/12/2014
  • "The Summit House used to be stellar. Now, the food quality has gone down while the prices have gone up ($63 for the average-tasting ribeye and $48 for four small, fat-filled lamb chops). The quality of service has also taken a hit. I recommend going elsewhere."

  • "We have come to Summitt House several times and they never disappoint. Great food and service, and a great view to boot!"

  • "I am recovering from hip surgery & wanted to take a friend to lunch who had been very helpful to me. We have both been to summit house & enjoyed it so decided on that for a late lunch. It was relaxed, comfortable & just perfect for a leisurely meal. And the food was excellent, I look forward to returning."

  • "I loved the restaurant setting, and the main dining room was magnificent. Every thing was great except the food!"

  • "A beautiful meal with lovely atmosphere. We enjoyed a cocktail before getting seated and had a nice time exploring the menu since it was our first time dining at the Summit House. The menu is not extensive, they specialize in the items they serve. We shared the crab cakes and iceberg wedge salad. Both were wonderfully delicious. The petite filet was one of the best filets I have eaten with an exceptional port wine reduction sauce. My dining partner had the prime rib and she enjoyed it though it was quite rare. Their specialty creamed corn was nice, but not exceptional. The side of mushrooms was a nice addition to our meal. Our "Duo" dessert was delicious! Not much of a wine list to speak of. Excellent Service Staff!"

  • "Celebrated a special birthday with my husband and found it to be amazing. The food was all great, the outdoor dining was amazing with a great view. The server was good and prompt with his service. We both had amazing prime rib."

  • "My wife and I have been dinning here for the past 17 years for her birthday. Over the years we have started eating their to celebrate our anniversary. Why do I mention this? Because ther are many restaurants to eat at and celebrate but only one that does it with this style that is reasonably priced with the best prime rib around."

  • "We come here on occasion, and it is always great food and service. This time we brought our kids (age 8 and 6) to dinner with my parents for a nice extended family dinner. It was nice to see that they had a children's menu with a good selection. Everything else was great as usual."

  • "THOUROUGHLY ENJOYED MY EXPERIENCE AT THE SUMMIT HOUSE. THE RESTAURANT IS VERY ELEGANT AND HAS A GORGEOUS VIEW. THE ENTIRE STAFF WAS GENUINELY FRIENDLY AND VERY ACCOMMODATING. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING YOUR LOVED ONES HERE!"

  • "Service and food was great. I found a hair in my fish with first bite. No big deal I understand everything is locally grown and very fresh. Waitress brought me a nice dessert to compensate for hairy fish. Actually in spite of the first bite meal was delicious."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner at the Summit House. The beef was excellent, the service was very friendly and professional, and we were particularly pleased that they graciously accommodated our dietary needs. With the view, service and wonderful food, the Summit House is a great spot for a special occasion or just a great prime rib."

  • "Celebrated my girlfriend's birthday here. For my girlfriend's birthday, I made a special request to be seated next to a window so that we can enjoy the scenery while eating dinner. When we got there, they not only gave us the perfect spot but gave my girlfriend a birthday card signed by all the restaurant staff. Very thoughtful of the restaurant to do that but I was hoping they would also throw a free desert with a candle on top like how other restaurants do. The prime rib was divine and the sides of cream corn and spinach was delicious. Overall a very enjoyable night."

  • "The Summit House is a great special occasion restaurant. My husband and I dined there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. As always, the food was good. The restaurant was very crowded on a Saturday night, and quite noisy. The service was slow and we had to ask for water and menus. The prices have gone up substantially, and for that reason alone, this is a once a year restaurant for us."

  • "The room we ate in was the room next to the window, north side, the one without the booths. We arrive at 5 pm and are having a conversational exchange between guests. By 5:30 the other table conversations are getting louder. By 6:30 the room is full and the noise level prevents much interaction other than yelling. By 7:30 we rush out. So, this room will no longer be our choice and in the future will request it not be where we sit. The room with the leather booths seems easier to interact in because of its size. The food was superb, the atmosphere for eating, talking, and digesting horrible. Just sayin'"

  • "Only two issues, booths were torn and cracked, pinching and cutting skin on legs, changed booths will not as bad similar issue. Service was initially very slow, probably 15 mins. From seating to greeting and only after asking for menus. Food was good and service improve from there on"

  • "The staff is attentive and always tell you what off menu items are available. Start with an appetizer, the seared Mahi Mahi or Escargots are excellent. Either the French Onion or the Lobster Bisque soups are great. The Macadamia encrusted Halibut is wonderful. You also cannot go wrong with any of their three offerings of prime rib (they range from 8 oz to a monster 27 oz). They also have a good selection of wines. We were too full for desert but I can recommend the Creme Brulee just from seeing it."

  • "If you indicate your special occasion on your reservation, the serving staff goes out of their way to make it special with a card and complimentary desert. The food is reliably excellent. Creamed corn is like no other!"

  • "The Summit House is always a goto place for that special occasion. Be sure to arrive while there's still daylight to enjoy the fantastic view all the way to Newport Beach and Irvine. Servers are super experts and ready to assist. Needless to say, the food is top-notch."

  • "We love to dine here, both in the bar area for a casual bite and cocktail and in the dining room for a special occasion and on the patio for a ladies lunch. This occasion was a quiet lunch on the patio with an old friend. Food was excellent as always and server was attentive even though we were the only ones on the patio for most of the time. The setting of this restaurant is incredible if you have never been, you must see it."

  • "Been going here for years. Food and service always very good. Shocked at the price increases for food, i.e. ribeye for $69 and even prime rib and fish prices greatly increased. Summit House is now only a special occasion restaurant."
