We eat at this restaurant about once a month. In general, the service is good. The food is another matter. My favorite seafood is fried clams. Almost every time I have ordered the, they have been undercooked and really greasy. I've actually stopped ordering them. This past Friday, I ordered the baked stuffed shrimp. The shrimp were good. The stuffing had little taste. It is not unusual for us to eat an appetizer and an entree and be done and out of the restaurant in less than 40 minutes. We now order the entree after we have finished the appetizer to keep the meal a pleasurable experience.

Met a friend for lunch! I had the fried oyster po-boy and my friend had the fried clam roll - both shellfish were perfectly cooked! Neither one handles over-frying well - and these were perfect! The only reason the food didn't get all available stars was that the po-boy bread (french bread) was too dense/tough. The oysters were perfectly done and abundant. There was nothing left of my friend's clam roll - enjoyed down to the crumbs. As we hadn't seen each other for awhile, the server was very accommodating about timing - much appreciated. Thank you!

  • I ordered the shrimp & tips.

I ordered the shrimp & tips. The shrimp was OK but lacked flavor. The steak tips were tough and poorly seasoned. The fries on the side I am convinced were freezer-burned. On the whole, the meal came out warm (but not hot). The clam chowder was OK and the cinnamon bread pudding was outstanding - a true highlight of the night. Overall I found the restaurant to be overpriced and a true disappointment. I've enjoyed Summer Shack since I first went to the Alewife location in Cambridge. Management needs some serious quality controls implemented in Hingham to make this particular location worthy of the chain's brand name.

My partner and I went in on a quiet Sunday night... or at least that is what the restaurant was prepared for. I believe it was one server on the floor and she was juggling was pretty full section. As we sat and waited for over five minutes at our table to be greeted, the manager sat at the front and chatted with the host, offering no help to Kristy who was in the middle of taking a large tables order. Later he did bring drinks and update me on the Patriots game, but it was obvious he was just passing time until he went home. The food on the other hand left NOTHING to complain about. Everything came out at the reasonable time, and from Salad (Waldorf) through entre (Swordfish and Mahi Specials) to desert (Pecan Pie) I was impressed.

Great service but food was not as good as we had when we went there last month. Felt a little rushed. Server took our order immediately but then after a long wait we got our appetizers before getting our drinks and bread. Pan roasted lobster which was great last time was lacking the same taste this time. Disappointing for a $40 item which is supposed to be a signature dish.

I didn't really want to go, but my girlfriend did. Although, once I arrived and saw the specials on the wall, my mood changed. Ordered some oysters on the half shell and Cajun Blackened Shrimp from the specials menu, and my mind mind was made up...My girlfriend was spot on! She had the glazed Salmon & I had the grilled Swordfish for our entree. So glad we went. Food and service was excellent! Will definitely be going back!

First time visiting. I was in the mood for seafood, not sushi, so I figured this was the perfect place. Our server, Joe, was fantastic. Ask for him. Peel & eat shrimp reminded me of being home in GA. My friend had the healthy meal and they even switched the fish to trout for her without any charge. She loved every bit of it. I had the lobster roll & fries. Barely ate the fries because the lobster roll was so filling. It was $20 at market price. I've had $15 lobster rolls that had half the meat and substance. There wasn't so much mayo that you felt unhealthy. I will be back.

Went for Father's Day dinner and they were out of fried clams, steamers and "stuffies" (stuffed clams). This was very disappointing since two of the three items were what my husband wanted to order...bit of a bummer for his Father's Day dinner. Waitress could have warned us that those items were gone before we went through the whole process of looking and choosing from the menu. These items are such seafood staples that it's hard to understand how they could have been so unprepared for the dining hour. What we got was good but place has lost some of its buzz and appeal for us. We will probably go back but it'll be a while.

I was greeted warmly by the hostess. The chairs are super comfortable. Even though this restaurant has a number of locations, the menu looked like it was from a mom and pop diner--organized, but not very clear in its presentation. I would give the chowder a 3/5. It was served with two large oyster crackers and had a decent flavor. I chose the 1.5 lb lobster. The prices were a bit high ($36), but then again, I was so close to the Cape and I could tell the difference in the freshness of the seafood. The drawn butter was perfect. I had the Shack Margarita, which was well mixed. My server was knowledgeable and friendly, but I didn't see her often enough. The cornbread they serve at the table is very good.

Quite a bit disappointed in the food. I've never had a "great" meal here; just adequate. It's no wonder that you would have a better chance at getting into this restaurant than the other 2 in the mall: Burton's and Rustic Kitchen.

We had a really nice meal. The menu was varied so that there were new tastes (stuffed razor clams) as well as old favorites (mussels) for each of us. Even the crab cake, which would have been good on its own, was a delightful surprise when presented on a bean salad bed. Nice contrast to the subtle flavors of the crabcake. My boulliabaise was wonderful. My friend's scallops were artfully presented, and she said they were quite good. All in all, a delightful meal for the three of us.

At least my third meal here and always a disappointment. On last trip the daily special fish (early in the evening) had been changed from Blue Fish to Mackerel, although it remained as Blue Fish on the black board and never announced by wait staff until I ordered. The menu clearly states that any of the daily fishes can be broiled, grilled, etc. and served with vegetables yet this seemed difficult to achieve. Overall always lacking and such a let down from the original Summer Shacks in the city.

I am a fan of summer shack, but this visit was just ok. The waitress was good. But we waited a long time for service. 20 minutes from when drinks were ordered till we got them. We waited almost 15 minutes to get drinks ordered. It looked like a private party was happening at the restaurant at the time. This may have accounted for the delay, but as a patron. It could have been better.

Our dinner reservation was for 7pm. The restaurant was pretty quiet for a Wednesday night dinner. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and they were great. However, the dinner entrees wasn't as great. One of us ordered the seafood tower to share as entree but the cooked seafood was salty. It tasted as they were cooked in salt water to preserve its life. Meatloaf entree was rather cardboard like. As for my lobster roll, never had a lobster roll where the meat was chopped up so small and drenched in watery mayo. One good note was the server, very friendly and prompt to check on us.

I was very dissapointed in the food, we went out for seafood, our lobster was overcooked, it was like mush.the fried clams dinner was more like clam strips than whole clams and was made up mostly of french fries. I thought the seafood was way overpriced for, 62.00 for a three pound lobster is a little rediculous.

I tend to not like "Sea Food" restaurants, but I have to tell you Summer Shack was special. They had many options for landlubbers, but I did go with the Swordfish and it was spectacular. My wife had the grilled lobster special and she reported it was FABULOUS. Really liked the vibe of this place...lively, fun with good and broad food selection. Very special for a seafood person, but also just as good for others who prefer thier meals not from the sea. Wait staff was OUTSTANDING...responsive, courteous and patient with good suggestions.
