No better place to go for seafood. Jasper White's recipies bring out the flavor in the freshest seafood without overshadowing it. The cooking is all it is hyped up to be.

We love the Summer Shack. We were there with three generations of family members and it was just right for all. It was a real treat when Jasper White showed my kids the different sized lobsters from the lobster pool. I rated the restaurant loud--which is was, but that is what we were looking for. A place where the kids would be comfortable and have fun.

Even though we live 30 miles away, the Summer Shack is one of our favorites for casual dining. The oysters and muscles were excellent as ususal. We routinly recomend the Summer Shack to friends and vistors that enjoy good food but prefer not to dress up for dinner. If I had to suggest an improvement, I'd like to see a larger selection of red wine.

We like the Summer Shack, but on this occasion, but on this occasion the service was a bit inconsistent. We had very friendly and knowledgeable waiter, but he forgot to place the order for the appetizer which ended up coming with dinner. Also, no refills on drinks which were all empty by end of meal. Still, a nice place and we'll be back.

We arrived late for our reservation because of a wrong turn, but were graciously seated immediately upon arrival. OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 5/7/2008
The cornbread was tasty but it was tough and chewy. My meal was very good (the cornmeal crusted haddock) and the fish was cooked to perfection but I was disappointed at the small piece of fish. For a comparable price, I'm used to getting a much bigger serving of fish. It seemed stingy to me and like the corn pozole was a filler for this meal, not an accompaniment. I was also disappointed to pay over $5 for a very small (and extra-greasy) pile of onion rings. I thought the amount was a mistake or a joke but apparently it wasn't. I realize the price of food is soaring but you should be ashamed of yourselves to charge a price like that for such a small amount of something so ubiquitous and cheap as onion rings.

The seafood is superb, and we were there at a somewhat quieter time than we have been before. It can be loud when full, but since we came earlier than other times we've been, it was very pleasant. Our family really enjoys the food. It's a little pricey so we don't come as often as we would were it less expensive. We come mostly for special family occasions.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2006

The food was great, but our waitress was horrible (I waited tables for 6 years, so I know good and bad service). We spent half our meal (2 lb lobsters) with nothing to drink. Nothing. No water, no beer. I was never given a lobster set-up and had to ask for one. Then at the end of our meal the waitress forgot it was my husband's birthday (which I had specified when I made the reservation and had confirmed with the hostess) and didn't bring out a dessert for him until I had to remind her...in front of him. So much for that surprise. We ate relatively late in the evening...it wasn't like she had 10 tables to worry about. When I'm spending $10/lb on steamers and $50+/lobster I'm expecting much better service.

Though we had a 6pm reservation, we still had to wait 20 minutes for a table (strangely the same wait they were telling guests without a reservation at the same time). The food is decent, but not spectacular. Lots of fried options and generally 5 daily specials that are quite good. It's a very loud restaurant with picnic benches and plastic bibs, but it is fun and has a very upbeat "gathering place" vibe. It's also a nice place for those with kids who can visit the live lobsters and color the paper table covering.

My friends were visiting from Memphis, TN and wanted delicious authentic seafood....in my opinion, no one does lobster or seafood for that matter better than the Summer Shack! Our table was ready on time... Our waiter was outstanding!!!!!...He exchanged the bottle of wine we didn't like and let us try one we did like (and ordered)...and he bought us dessert....his hospitality was outstanding and I can't imagine a better time. The whole evening there was GREAT!!!

We've been to Summer Shack many times since it opened and found this experience pretty bad. The place, which used to be hopping, was totally empty. Even tho, we were seated in the one area with screaming kids. The waitstaff was not the best, and other than the oysters, the food was mediocre and overpriced. Will not return or reccommend for quite a while.
