Diner Reviews
  • "We made a reservation on a Saturday night and arrived to find only two other couples seated. It's a pretty small place and very cozy. The wait staff was attentive without hovering over us. The Owner stopped by for a moment as was very nice as well, We ordered the Salmon and the Roast chicken and both were excellent. Compared to other restaurants in the area the costs were very low. High quality food and low costs in a quiet atmosphere, what's not to like?"

  • "Food is good but the best of all was the red wine from Montepucciano. We ordered bc we knew it woukd be a great choice and it was. Place is quite relaxing to enjoy good meal wine and company."

  • "A friend who lives in the neighborhood suggested i try this place out and so glad that i did! I enjoyed every moment of the dinner i shared with my husband. While he had their risotto with shrimp, i had the milanese style chicken breast with basmati rice. The sauce (with capers and tomatoes) was so delicious but i have to say the winning component was the chicken itself! It was so juicy and tender that i only needed a fork to cut through it! Definitely coming back for that! To top it all off, the chocolate mousse was simply decadent! Service was an extra extra plus for me!"

  • "Made a lunch reservation but was happy to see that they serve breakfast through most of the day, basically brunch everyday! We ordered the banana and blueberry pancakes and the salmon eggs benedict with a side of their homemade corned beef hash. Hit the ball out of the park! The people sitting next to us suggested we try their burgers so that's another trip right there."

  • "I showed up and was almost embarrassed to say I had a reservation, as there was no one else in the restaurant. For dinner I ordered the tilapia and my friend had a steak. I served canned corn with store bought pesto mixed in as a side dish, so-so mashed potatoes and an underwhelming piece of fish. My friends steak, which was ordered medium was served well-done. While the 1,000 points were nice, and the food wasn't inedible, I will not be going back."

  • "This was the only place we could reserve Friday night for Saturday afternoon brunch. The food was okay, nothing amazing. It's a good deal if you get the breakfast platters but it sucked having to swat away flies the whole time."

  • "Everything was good. Hummus, salmon and chocolate macademia tart were delicious. The steak though was a bit chewy and had too much charred taste."

  • "Went to this bistro for the first time with a group of 7. We had a nice table and an excellent waiter who patiently described the menu options and who came throughout the evening to check on us and to refill water glasses. I had a Bistro Burger - it was enormous, very tasty and came with some awesome fries. We had a Nutella crepe for dessert - it was also delicious. We enjoyed the low key atmosphere and chatted there for a long time without being rushed - a very nice evening. We'll be back!"

  • "This place is a gem in a neighborhood with so many options . They give you a lot of food and offer you a price you can't beat . The breakfast menu is so delicious!"

  • "I went in not knowing what to expect after looking through their menu. The bistro is on the smaller side so i wouldnt recommend reserving for groups of more then 10, however, it was perfect for two of us. Service was quite warm and friendly, and we were given great recommendations, i opted for the peasant chicken with some basmati rice and my friend went for the BBQ Ribs which were delicious with s great kick to it! Try one of their Dutch Crepes as a dessert. Yum overall!"

  • "This is more like a diner than a bistro. Food perfectly acceptable but nothing special."

  • "Overall I was more impressed with the ambience. It wasn't too crowded and it was a nice quiet place. I was able to sit outside on the small porch where they have a few seats to just hang out. That was a nice touch. It's a great place to meet up with a few friends for a quiet spot. Even nicer out there if there is good weather. Food was alright but the prices were fair so overall okay bang for your buck. "

  • "I came here for dinner with a colleague. The food was fine...nothing spectacular. The restaurant was very quiet. I would come here again if I was in the neighborhood and needed a quiet place to eat."

  • "I was hoping for a little more ambiance but it was a very local/neighborhood place, so not great for a birthday celebration. The steak frites, however, were superb. The wine was surprisingly not from France, but the service was pleasant."

  • "sometimes it's difficult to find a nice And cozy place to enjoy good food, good service and not have to go to the bank for it in NYC. however Sullivan bistro was a great find, I will definitely return to try the other items on the menu. it's like staying home for a nice meal and having your own personal chef. the decor is like you're at a friends home, the service was awesome and attentive. the food was on par with some fancy high end restaurants but it's located in an off beaten path so you don't have to worry about a long wait and noisy crowds."

  • "It was our first time here and won't be our last. Great food and wine, tons of menu options for even the pickiest eater and nice size portions. Can't wait to go back and try another item off the menu!"

  • "Based on the great reviews, we decided to try this bistro that I missed when I attended NYU. The seating and tables etc are a bit worn and old which made me doubt my choice. However, as soon as the food was served, it proved itself and all the reviews to be true. The ribs were perfectly prepared as well as my friend's tortellini bolognese. The waiter(s) were attentive and accommodating. In spite of the fact that the place lost some electrical power later in the evening, we liked this place very much. Without electric power, they could not make lattes or swipe credit cards. Fortunately I had plenty of cash in my wallet. We will definitely be back again soon."

  • "While weekend brunch is a long held tradition of NYC, its not always easy to find a place that dedicates 7 days a week to serving brunch! After an incredible dinner experience, i decided to take my best friend for an early weekday brunch(they open at 8am) and was glad my first experience with this quaint little restaurant carried on well into my second experience! As expected, service was warm, incredibly friendly and so very accommodating! We decided to order the salmon Benedict, their homemade corned beef hash and seeing how enthusiastic the staff was about the banana and blueberry pancakes we went ahead and shared that too! Everything was prepared to perfection. The mimosas (with fresh OJ!!) were divine! Again, highly recommended!!"

  • "I came in after reading various reviews and looking through Sullivan's extensive menu and was really happy that it was everything i was hoping and expecting it to be. They were incredibly warm and welcoming and you could easily see why this place also seems to be a neighborhood favorite. I was in the mood for something spicy and decadent and so opted for the BBQ Ribs with their garlic mash potatoes! It was simple yet incredibly rich and flavorful and went well with the Cabarnet that was recommended. I finished off my meal with the chocolate mousse and what a way to finish! Highly recommended!"

  • "My husband (who is French) and I both thought it was authentically French. Unfortunately the authenticity they imported to NYC is the dreary, depressing vibe of not very good French bistros in shabby little towns. The food was okay, not awful but not particularly good. It was a weird mix of geriatric diner and French food, in a very cool neighborhood."

  • "My boyfriend and I reserved this restaurant for Valentine's Day for 4:30 PM, knowing big crowds usually come after that time. The service was great, and the food was even better. I had the eggplant parmesan; the eggplant was cooked deliciously with cheese melted on it. The broccoli was set on the side. I also ordered a baked potato on the side, and it came with sour cream and butter. The meal was very satisfying. Would recommend."

  • "My boyfriend and I chose to come to Sullian Bistro for our anniversary dinner because it was near the Angelika Movie Theatre and it had great reviews on yelp. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. We have since been back for brunch with friends and it was just as good!"

  • "A friend and I had dinner here. It was our first time dining at Sullivan Bistro and we were pleasantly surprised. We shared the beet salad, which was delicious. We both cut out carbs for 2014 (...or as long as we could manage) and the server gladly accommodated both our requests to substitute items on the menu to create dishes that worked for us. Two thumbs up!"

  • "Cute, calm, unpretentious place. Solid bistro food. Nice, attentive staff. It seems like an easy and pleasant place to return to for a brunch with girlfriend, dinner before a music performance, or a glass of wine and a salad."

  • "We gathered for a latish supper with our two sons last week. This a small restaurant with a nice menu. Atmosphere is comfortable and understated. Two of us had the chicken milanese and seemed happy with it. I had the fish and chips which were OK ( a little too fishy and dry); Other son had a ham and cheese Dutch crepe which he seemed to enjoy. We didn't order dessert or appetizers. Service was pleasant and we had a nice time in this nice little neighborhood restaurant. It was intimate and allowed for conversation and family togetherness."

  • "Our party of 4 was thrilled to find a restaurant that opened early enough on a weekday for us to enjoy a meal there before going to work. And as it turned out, the food was delicious. The fried eggs, the omelettes, and the pancakes were delicious. The service was very attentive and very friendly. This is a small place, with a French cafe ambience. The noise level was low enough - meaning we could make conversation comfortably. That was a real "plus" in our view. All in all, a great experience."
