Diner Reviews
  • "We had a very nice time the other night. Service was just ok they forgot a few things we had ordered. It was not that busy, but the place looks under staffed. Servers running around trying to cover all the tables. Food was great though and the server recommendations were great. Bacon wrapped dates, Octopus, duck and waffles and some sushi was all very good."

  • "Kristin our server was awesome and the food was outstanding. Wish there was a better wine list and wine was a little pricey. Thanks for making my wife's birthday so memorable and for taking such good care of our JWU students!!!"

  • "Came here on a date and had a blast. The waitress was extremely attentive and enthusiastic and we pretty much let her choose our small plates for us. All of her suggestions were on point and the sangria was great too. The atmosphere was very energetic as well and we loved the indoor outdoor bar. Will definitely be coming back again soon."

  • "Great decor, delicious food, wonderful service. Waiter was really knowledgeable and friendly, the rum list (although we didn't try it during our breakfast visit) was incredible, the food was very fresh and tasty (we had bacon wrapped dates, ceviche, benedict, and an amazing desert, not sure on the name, the house specialty apparently), and the design was really cool and comfortable. Could have easily sat there all day. Will definitely go again."

  • "My last visit to Sugarcane was at lunch . Not busy at all , but chef and server insisted in Taking my steak back , with not requested sauce. The chef simply send my steak back with let over sauce Over cooked and tasteless. Really , who does that ??!!! Manager try to make the situation better sending free desert."

  • "We were told "can't take reservations for Monday at 8:30 pm as we are fully booked" ...we saddly had to take a same Monday 7:30 pm opening ... BUT to our suprise, at 8:00pm, 8:30pm and even at 9:00pm the place was 2/3 empty ... We would have appreciated the site had been more transparent with its time plan ...."

  • "As always never disappoints! Sat outside perfect temperature. Scallop crudo, stuffed dates, steak tartar, meatballs the best! Torrejos for dessert."

  • "We had the pleasure of dining at sugarcane 2 years ago. At that time there was masterful food. However we found that the flavors have become very commercialized either too sweet or too salty.for instance the broiled octopus was distastefully salty, the duck confit waffle and quail egg changed to a cheapened variation with a regular oversize egg on top. The dish looked ugly with a thin so so waffle.though the duck itself was good. But the sauce accompanying was terrible. The Japanese eggplant with salty sauce. Come on guys get back to the way you were. Our waitress was swell however our first round of drinks came after 25 minuets and after we had 2 plates. A friendly couple sitting besides us also said where's the sophistication? Do better."

  • "I loved everything about this restaurant and it was actually really reasonably priced! I've been to yardbird and this is better food and cheaper! I highly recommend the duck and waffles, the sushi, the octopus, the kale and my absolute favorite bacon wrapped around a date!!"

  • "Fantastic food, delicious cocktails & great ambiance. I take all my out of town guest here...some people are a bit skeptical when they first look at the menu (it's a bit unusual/exciting & eclectic), but everything is delicious. These are my favorites (HIGHLY recommended): bacon wrapped dates with manchego cheese (and I usually hate dates), brussels sprouts w/ orange segments & soy, scallop crudo with truffles & jalapeno, pan seared foie gras w/ bacon caramel, crispy pork belly, goat cheese croquettes, the duck & waffles. Enjoy!"

  • "The food is innovative, fresh and delicious. Our second time here within a month. Brussel sprouts a must! The slider is the perfect balance of wagyu beef, horseradish, grilled onions and a qual egg - omg! We also had the scallop crudos, crispy tuna roll, grilled octopus, goat cheese croquettes, mussels. We can't wait to go back?"

  • "My girlfriend and I went to Sugarcane for brunch on a Saturday afternoon, and it was an excellent experience. I will certainly be returning. Although the prices of cocktails and meals appear to be expensive, the quality of the food, drink and service are on par with the price, and I will absolutely be returning. In addition to the above, the staff is attentive, answers every question you have, and even offers justified suggestions when you ask about items."

  • "Had a great lunch. Adjacent to art center, and innovative food seemed entirely in keeping with the original artworks. Really good food, and good service. Only caveat is for one of the restaurants to not cut open a huge fish in full view of dining patrons."

  • "Sugar Cane is a tapas restaurant. The menu is diverse and there are lots of interesting choices. Don't miss the brussel sprouts and the duck w/ waffle. The whole chicken is scrumptious. Mixed drinks were inventive & very good. All in all, a fun evening with lots of energy."

  • "Majority of the stuff me and my girlfriend orderd was good. 1 of the dishes that we tried didn't taste so great. The bbq pig ears was great! The Kobe slider was absolutely delish, definitely recommend!"

  • "The food was okay, and this coming from a foodie who eats out at least three times a week. The waiter was great. The place was dead and overstaffed. I keep hearing that this is one of THE places in Midtown. Maybe I'm just not going on the right night. Will try again soon. Stay tuned!"

  • "I went on Open Table to book a reservation for Saturday, January 25th, the only time that showed up was 445pm so I booked that time as I was attending the Opera at 7pm. Arrived 10 minutes late for reservation and upon arrival was greeted with attitude. Can understand questioning arrival time if the place was packed, the outside dinning had several people however the inside was completely dead and there were more wait staff running around that place than customers. The girl that showed us to our table ask if I had on a watch and I said "as a matter of fact I don't"...which i did just wanted to let her know she has no reason for the attitude. Very mediocre food, menu terrible selection, tasteless Sushi will not go back or recommend."

  • "Reserved a table for lunch with friends visiting from Virginia. Not only was the service great, the food and cocktails were the charts! Might I suggest the Violet Haze cocktail. My friends were very impressed as was I with all of our small plate sections. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Ate at Sugarcane on a Sunday night. The menu is interesting and we were excited to try different things since it's a tapas style restaurant. The bacon wrapped dates were disappointing - could barely tell we were eating dates. It was more like eating bacon wrapped ground chorizo and the chorizo was not very flavorful. The spicy tuna roll was very good as was the cashew tart dessert. Cocktails were excellent. Would go back for bar scene or to sit outside on a nice night. Hope they step up the game with the food."

  • "SUGARCANE is a nice, trendy little place with a nice ambiance. With a reservation and were seated promptly by a friendly hostess. Our waiter however was not so friendly, very dry, messed up our order and told me that's what I ordered.. Umm no I didn't, but ok. I just kept it. Also the food came before our drinks. I try to not let bad waiters ruin my dining experience. Even the food runners and bussers were more friendly. I had a jalapeño cocktail, which was delicious the first time, but the second one the bartender over poured whatever spicey mix they use, so I sent it back in exchange for a passion fruit mojito, also very good. Food was good pretty good, the fois gras is great! Besides the waiter, it was a good experience. I will go again."

  • "Directed to Sugarcane by a longtime Miami resident who wanted us to see a revitalized part of town. Were early on a Saturday, just as brunch ended, and the three different cooking options and menu were great. Variety, but not too much. Choices, but not too many. And quality all around. Great service, explanations and recommendations from Hiram too! Plus, Sergio called to confirm reservation and give us a heads-up our reservation was just as brunch was about to end. Comfortable, professional experience ... making it all the more enjoyable."

  • "It was awful the hostess ignored my girlfriend.i had to wait at the bar for 25 minutes before being seated and we were standing the whole time"
    Dined on 12/29/2013
  • "We were not greeted. No smile. Poor seating. Plenty of tables were available but we were squished in a corner on a tiny table. Our legs were tangled. Water took over 15 mins to our to our table. We requested no ice and when the water came after 15mins we ad to re-request with 'no ice'. Drinks took over 20 mins (keep in mind the restaurant was not busy). Our server was dis interested and seemed like he didn't want to be there. We waited over 15mins (in addition to the 30+mins for water and drinks) for someone to come take our order. We could see our server sitting and folding napkins. Finally asked a server passing by if they could take our order. By this tim we wanted to walk out. Our starters were horrible. That's when we payed and left."

  • "We asked that the food we ordered be brought out at the same time. It was'nt. When the rest of the food arrived we, not the waiters had to move the plates and glasess to make room."
