Diner Reviews
  • "Start off with a stunning garden essence at the bar (it's a gin cocktail) it's like walking thru a farmers market .....then Bone marrow, yellow tail sashimi, bacon wrapped dates, Korean short ribs.....etc Outstanding . Always on My list when I come to miami. Definitely best resto in Miami . Ohh ya don't for get the apple dessert, it's like a redo on pain perdu , ridiculous!!!!!!"

  • "Brunch menu is a mix of comfort & flare. The sharing plates are perfect for a group or enjoy alone. Our server gave us the inside scoop on the best drinks & food to choose. Only downfall to our dining experience was the door was left open leaving us sweating in our drinks. Next time we'll ask for a seat away from the entrance or come back in the cooler months."

  • "We have been going to sugar cane in mid town, Dapur Asian Tapas and Lounge in Fort Lauderdale and zuma , all of those are our must to go restaurants. Unique food, wonderful ambulance and always great service. This time we were a bit dispointed with the service. Our waitress was only there to take the order, lack of personality, and never check if everything was fine or if we wanted to order more drinks. The food and the drinks were wonderful, only the service. We will be back for everything else but not for her."

  • "The service was wonderful, my server was Monica and the bus boy was very attentive. Although the menu was different , the taste was lacking. I give this place three stars for taste(flavors were bland and not distinguishing except for the goat cheese croquettes). I give four stars for service because Monica got tied up in a meeting so its not her fault but management."

  • "Sugarcane continues to be the Miami Midtown best restaurant with a great combination of food, service and ambiance. Great for sharing as most plates are tapas style. Always get the food fresh out as its serve as they are ready."

  • "The food and service was very good, however, I felt it was a bit deserted for it being a Sunday at 12 p.m. Thought it would be more alive for brunch."

  • "This was my second time at Sugarcane. Brought 2 friends from out of town. They fell in love with it. Everything about it is fabulous!!!"

  • "This is my second time coming to Sugarcane, and once again, I wasn't disappointed. I came for Brunch this time and started off with the roasted cauliflower soup which was rich without being too heavy, followed by salmon gravlox, which was delectable with the right amount of texture with the crunch, could have ate it without soy sauce, and with a side of grilled sunchokes, which had a palette pleasing curry cream. I would definitely revisit Sugarcane for a third time and try the desserts. Always a great atmosphere; kid friendly without making it seem like a Cheesecake Factory."

  • "I try to visit Sugarcane every 2 weeks to try new and different plates. Services it's ok, but they have room for been better. Food was good, but I would like to see more special plates in order to continuing my visit constantly looking for more."

  • "Small plates of well prepared, diverse dishes. Sushi plus grilled offerings. Mussels were fresh but broth I edible due to salt content. Attentive staff. Expensive but a treat."

  • "Highly recommend this restaurant! Went there for dinner June 1st,2014. The Tapas and Robata Grill menus are extensive and generous, to share! The food is tantalizing and delectable!! The cocktails creative! Try the"Spice of Love" cocktail which is pureed passion fruit with mango essence, vodka and fresh infused Jalapeño! Smashing!!! Love the ambiance, the vibes and the Caribbean/Latin rhythms!! We will return!!"

  • "We hit South Beach yearly, and visit the usual top rated haunts to eat ... Last year we stumbled upon Sugarcane after a friends recommendation and loved it (two couples). This year we visited again (this time with our daughter). The atmosphere is vibrant and energetic, the staff/service is prompt, humorous and friendly ... But, the food ... The food is exceptional !! Dates wrapped in bacon are our personal favourite (it shouldn't work - but does !). Notably, the sushi and sashimi are exquisitely fresh and flavoursome and the duck egg with duck and waffle is a strange but fantastic mixture of textures and tastes ! Looking forward to next years visit !! ... From Manchester, UK."

  • "This is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in Miami. Don't forget to order the bacon wrapped dates and the beef carpaccio. Both are excellent. "

  • "This was my second time dining at Sugarcane. I was pleased to find it hadn't changed at all. The food is amazing and is tapas style. Portions are large enough to share and enjoy. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and their suggestions are always on the money. Definite do not miss if in Miami!"

  • "Went in with a 1 pm reservation for Sunday Brunch. Place was rather empty although it filled up moderately by the time we left. Food was better than average. Service was dismal. Took forever. Waiters kept forgetting one thing or another... impersonal and disengaged. Service was bad enough to make me think twice about returning, even with their good food. "

  • "We really liked Sugarcane - though be careful, we ordered way more than we could eat. All the food was delicious - great for large groups where you can share the tapas plates. Highly recommend."

  • "Hands down one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in the country! The service is amazing, the atmosphere is great and the food is always perfection. The bacon wrapped dates are like nothing I can describe, I was visiting from the north last week and demanded we go there (even though it was a bit out of the way) so my friends and family could try them. Everyone was amazed. This place is just always a great time, and the service is always fantastic. If I was to have a bad experience here, I would honestly consider it a total fluke and go back in a heart beat. I'm not a big "reviewer" of places, but for this place I am happy to extend my opinion and am always telling anyone visiting the SoFla area to check it out!"

  • "Hadn't been in a while but the food was very good as usual. I really wish they would bring back the Kiwi Basil drink and the Yakuza!!!!"

  • "Menu promise a lot but delivery little. You will find 10-12 ingredients on the paper for any dish, but on the plate only small portion. All that with proud presents as TAPOS. Don't order miso octopus/complete disappointment/. Rabbit paella will bring you to decision never visit Spain. Short ribs dry and tough. Oysters fresh and good.So if you want to visit restaurant, sit on the bar, order glass of white wine and dozen oysters and look around."

  • "We had a few plates to share that were perfectly done. Would definitely go back. Staff very friendly but a bit overwhelmed, though."

  • "Our third time here. Not to be missed when in Miami. I love the variety. Every dish is well thought out. Brussel sprouts, croquettes, scallops, octopus are just some of my favorites. The strawberry balsamic cocktail is awesome."

  • "We had a very nice time the other night. Service was just ok they forgot a few things we had ordered. It was not that busy, but the place looks under staffed. Servers running around trying to cover all the tables. Food was great though and the server recommendations were great. Bacon wrapped dates, Octopus, duck and waffles and some sushi was all very good."

  • "Kristin our server was awesome and the food was outstanding. Wish there was a better wine list and wine was a little pricey. Thanks for making my wife's birthday so memorable and for taking such good care of our JWU students!!!"

  • "Great decor, delicious food, wonderful service. Waiter was really knowledgeable and friendly, the rum list (although we didn't try it during our breakfast visit) was incredible, the food was very fresh and tasty (we had bacon wrapped dates, ceviche, benedict, and an amazing desert, not sure on the name, the house specialty apparently), and the design was really cool and comfortable. Could have easily sat there all day. Will definitely go again."

  • "My last visit to Sugarcane was at lunch . Not busy at all , but chef and server insisted in Taking my steak back , with not requested sauce. The chef simply send my steak back with let over sauce Over cooked and tasteless. Really , who does that ??!!! Manager try to make the situation better sending free desert."

  • "We were told "can't take reservations for Monday at 8:30 pm as we are fully booked" ...we saddly had to take a same Monday 7:30 pm opening ... BUT to our suprise, at 8:00pm, 8:30pm and even at 9:00pm the place was 2/3 empty ... We would have appreciated the site had been more transparent with its time plan ...."

  • "Came here on a date and had a blast. The waitress was extremely attentive and enthusiastic and we pretty much let her choose our small plates for us. All of her suggestions were on point and the sangria was great too. The atmosphere was very energetic as well and we loved the indoor outdoor bar. Will definitely be coming back again soon."

  • "We had the pleasure of dining at sugarcane 2 years ago. At that time there was masterful food. However we found that the flavors have become very commercialized either too sweet or too salty.for instance the broiled octopus was distastefully salty, the duck confit waffle and quail egg changed to a cheapened variation with a regular oversize egg on top. The dish looked ugly with a thin so so waffle.though the duck itself was good. But the sauce accompanying was terrible. The Japanese eggplant with salty sauce. Come on guys get back to the way you were. Our waitress was swell however our first round of drinks came after 25 minuets and after we had 2 plates. A friendly couple sitting besides us also said where's the sophistication? Do better."
