  • First Time-Not so great
    OpenTable Diner Since 2013
    Dined on 3/2/2013
I went here because I saw it on Open Table & thought I would try it. I wanted a night out with the hubby. We had a table for 9. Lots, lots of people at the bar. We were seated right in the middle, and couldnt be off to the side as we were told large groups were coming. It was very, very noisy. People there celebrating, and groups of "clubbers". The music was so loud, we couldnt even hear each other. The waiter-Jake walked by us at least 5 times, as he was seated, yes I said seated, speaking to a guy at the table next to us, he asked if we had been helped. It took 10 minutes for him to get a beer. We ordered, the Mongolian beef-great. We were told we needed to leave by 1015 if we didnt want to go to the club, and if we could find another seat!

Once again, Brian Rosenberg's Staff has continued to impress with their professional and yet extremely friendly service from being seated to leaving. The food is prepared aesthetically pleasing, simply presented and delicious tasting. Our server, Betty assisted with the ordering again, so we didn't over-order and at the same time, she felt like we knew her for years! Once we were ready to pay and Betty was extremely busy assisting other patrons, it was on ly a matter of minutes before the manager Polo, asked if he could take the check from me so there was no addition al wait.

It is so true when yhr say don't judge a book by its cover. From the outside the place looks small and boring. I was totally off. My girlfriends and I went out this passed Friday and we had a ball. We got there at 9 for dinner and by 1040 it turned into a nice club, we didn't leave until 2 am. The food was excellent (I recommend) the garden salad w chicken and the skirt steak. The service was great from the door man to the coat check lady (coat check free until 9) and finally our waitress she was on point. She recommend the Pomegranate lechie martini my girl friend and I had 4 each.

I used a Living Social voucher worth 50 dollars. Had 2 cocktails, that were strong enough alcohol wise, 3 plates for sharing that is how they are served. The food was very good, sweet potato fries, Thai chicken, large portions. The Mac and cheese with truffle oil is highly recommended, skilletbakedand served scorching hot. We had to bring home food (2 people ). Jake our server was very helpful and gave us good advice on the drinks and food. I congratulate the establishment on hiring him. It is fairly quiet up to 8.30 pm but after that it is kicking, noise level and a bigger crowd, since most do not dine, they go for the club experience after 10 pm.

We came there for a birthday party on Saturday and the overall experience was good. We sat down around 8:30 for appetizers/drinks. We were a bit disappointed to hear that it was $25/person before we could order off the menu! A few people had to seperate because they ate already. Not the end of the world, but we wish they would have been able to sit there and enjoy the club together. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was gorgeous. Need more dance music when it turns into the club.

The food was good. All dishes are served tapas style. Service was good. My only complaint was the noise level. I didn't mind the music but for some reason the people sitting all the way on the other side were extremely loud and it echoed across the place. The acoustics seem to off because of the dome-shaped ceilings. Other than that, the food was good and it was nice to be able to sample a lot of dishes.

My second visit here and I have to say it just keeps getting better! I'm in love with the skirt steak!!!! every menu choice is tapas for 2. Bartender Frankie is the Best. The service is great and they couldn't do enough to please us. Great for groups, is a bit loud as its a party atmosphere. After 10pm becomes a lounge/club so dress nice

What a great place! This was our first time here and certainly will not be our last. We went with 6 people for dinner and the food was so delicious. They don't serve dinner dinner its all finger foods but they are really good and perfect to have before the dancing begins. We liked this place because it was not a very young crowd (mostly 35 and over). If your looking to have a good time then this is the place to go on Long Island.

First time at Sugar and had a great time. We weren't able to see the transition from restaurant to club but I'm planning to go back. Appetizers were pricey for the portion so I would suggest to eat something before you go so you can spend more on the drinks!

I have to say this was one of the worst meals I have had in years. The tuna tartare was nice spicy and looked like cat food. The Mac and cheese was flavorless and watery. The server was good and knew enough about the food. He is the only reason the restaurant didn't get a zero. This place needs to fire the chef.

The restaurant is beautiful. Very unique look. We went for a nice dinner date at around 8pm on a Friday. The waiter was very helpful and informative. The food came out immediately. We ordered the french dip spring rolls, pulled pork sliders, and the spicy tuna tartare. Everything was tasty, but there was way too much food for just the two of us. They recommend 1.5 dishes per person, but I recommend picking only one per person instead. This restaurant has a really great atmosphere and theme going for it. The menu has an interesting and diverse selection of choices. The drinks menu looked good too. Definitely worth a try.

Food was very expensive. And it only served appetizers, like sliders. Lucky I was able to get a 50% coupon from valpack. But even with that, they tack on a 20% service charge. Skip the food and wait till after 10:30 when the place turns into a club.

This place was ideal for a girls' night out. The small plates were attractive and arrived promptly. The waiter suggested six, but three were enough for the four of us.The drinks were delicious and attractive. Our friendly waiter advised us to buy a bottle of wine rather than wine by the glass which save us a few dollars. It is an attractive place, and the music was tempting. Nearly deserted at 7:30 when we arrived, it was filling up by 9:40 when we left. This was a Thursday evening, and the crowd was almost all late 20's and early 30's. We are all middle age (40's thru 60's), so I guess this would not be our night to dance (NO, we don't wear tacky leopard dresses, but we are fit gym girls and in better shape than most there. Pricey!

Holy Housewives of Long Island! No wonder they don't have a show. You don't need to see it on tv, just go there and live the expierence live. Thank god this place was an opentables spotlight deal and didn't pay full price. This place is very pretty, but in an odd location. The crowd is just AWFUL! My friend and I were the youngest there (late 30's), yet the most conservative. The food was just "ok"...not bad, but not good either. The service was awful as well. I guess they were turning the venue into the evening club, but to do that, they forgot us. We were dying to leave this wierd place!! Glad I tried it and won't be back.

Sugar has a great vibe and the food is surprisingly good. I think the tapas style is a great idea especially how they bring them out sporadically so you have time to eat every dish. I unfortunately could not give sugar a higher rating due to the terrible service. Our waitress was incredibly condescending and put a damper on the evening.

We went here for a double birthday celebration and Sugar did not disappoint. The food was fantastic and the portions were made for sharing. The food was great! The dumpling duo andcoconut shrimp were good. We arrived around 8pm, finished eating just in time for the crew to move the tables around to make room for the dance floor. The music was hip. Great venue for girls night out! Note: After 10:30 you have to give up your booth unless you pay and buy bottles for your group. Other than that - you're on your feet shaking what your mama gave you :)

Food was especially good, which was a pleasant surprise given the reputation as a dance club/night club versus restaurant. We were there mid evening on a Saturday, and the place was empty, which was also surprising but not altogether unpleasant. The service was excellent (outstanding, really) and I'm certain the lack of patrons enabled this in part. But the lack of humans in a fairly large room did make it seem we were dining in an empty gymnasium, so the ambiance was less than perfect and the expected noisy scene non-existant. I'm certain it was hopping just a couple of hours later, however.
