While I appreciate good service, i
generally don't let poor service spoil a restaurant meal. In this case, however, that's exactly what happened. After being seated in a pleasant manner and brought a first round of drinks, things really went downhill from there. I had to get up from the table and walk to the front to seek out a server for more drinks and to check on our meals- which ended up taking over an hour to arrive. We were a party of 4 and the first 2 plates arrived 10 minutes before the last 2. I'd like to say the poor service was redeemed by excellent food...but it wasn't. 3 of the meals were average and the 4th was poor."

Title says it all. Warm, stale
beer, in a giant empty restaurant. Server didn't seem to care about letting us know that the beer cooler wasn't working properly until we had tried several different taps each and mentioned the warm stale beer to the server. Also didn't really seem to phase him when he spilled some beer on one of the people at our table. Maybe that was because of the 18% auto-gratuity tacked on to our bill for bringing 8 people into their empty restaurant on a Thursday evening. Food was alright."

I moved away from Vancouver 9
years ago. Subeez used to be my fave evening haunt for meeting with friends. I wanted to take a trip down memory lane on my recent trip to Vancouver, and went for an early dinner at Subeez with friends. However there wasn't as much of a "buzz" to the place compared to 10 years ago, and the crowd was more mixed (wider age range, some tourists, some locals) than it used to be (artsy- trendy- young people). The food and service was excellent, particularly the yam fries, and the wine list was very good. The art on the walls was great, and I love the wax-covered candelabras - but I think the place could use a bit of a facelift to update it, and please get rid of the tacky t-shirts the servers are wearing."

When I went looking for a casual
place with decent food that was close to the Queen Elizabeth theatre, I stumbled upon Subeez Cafe. It was everything my friend and I hoped for: tasty, well-priced food; funky, relaxed, casual atmosphere; not too noisy; an extremely pleasant and helpful server. We both had steak which was cooked perfectly to our specifications. It came with a huge side of fresh, lightly cooked vegetables, sauteed fingerling potatoes and mushrooms. Delicious! We really enjoyed our pre-theatre dinner and will return to try the salmon and halibut."

Slow service, the most interaction
with the server came at the end of the night when we where paying the bill. The amount of staff vs the amount of Customers in the restaurant didn't explain the service levels. Having worked int he service industry I am much more forgiving of mediocre food than I am of poor service especially when the restaurant is only steady rather than packed out the door."

Great place to eat before a show.
Handy to the Orpheum Theatre."

The staff here are really friendly
and hospitable. Its great for large groups. The food has always been great and really fast."

It's a great place to stop for a
few drinks on your way out downtown! Good service and fair prices!"

I have be here before. I was
disappointed with the service. It was VERY slow. This was right before the Heritage Classic with 55,000 people coming to downtown, they should have known it was going to be a busy morning and planned for extra staff. My food was ok (as expected) but my friends was cold. Again probably cause it sat waiting to get to us. We also ended up waiting about 20 min for our COFFEES's."

"I love the decoration and the bar
atmosphere of this place - perfect spot to hang out with a large group of friends, plenty of room, not too loud. Perfect sharing portions, I really enjoy this place."

Two of us ate in Subeez before
going to a show downtown. The food was perfectly passable and reasonably priced in an area filled fast food or higher end restaurants. The steaks were good though cooked slightly more than medium rare as i asked. But certainly passable. I'd go there again. If i was downtown and looking for mid-range food."

Enjoyed the food and the choices
for a person with celiac disease. The service was a bit slow but food was great. We did visit on a Friday and understand that may be why it was so loud in there but the music could have been turned down a little so we could enjoy our conversation a little better. Very accommodating when asked for space for our stroller and surprisingly child friendly!"

I've been to Subeez a few times,
and it's always been good. A group of us went for a birthday dinner (yes, on NYE) and thought it would be packed, it wasn't. We though then that would mean service would be great, it also wasn't. Too bad too, as the food was delicious!"

Subeez has been around forever. It
has consistently delivered - on food, service, ambiance, drink menu...everything. Wish they would bring back the steak frites though :-)."

When you are downtown and looking
for something better than fast food and more fairly priced than name hotel fare Subeez is hard to beat. The service is consistently warm and efficient and the food and wine give lots of latitude for mood swings or sudden urges. Subeez is a great place to connect with friends when you need reliable food and an atmosphere allowing conversation."

The food was good, the location is
perfect and the ambience is charming. But the service is so lousy. We pre-ordered so that we don't have to wait very long as we have limited lunch break, but it took over an hour for our orders to arrive. My order took so long to arrive that my co-workers already finished their food before mine arrived. The payment process was very chaotic and unorganized."

Experience was still good.. Two
years ago we enjoyed ourselves here. Funny thing is with such a large restaurant we were led to the same table. Did note the lamb was advertised on the menu - internet but was no longer on their own menu at the restaurant. And they have taken the duck off as well as the steak sandwich. Which were nice menu items. Otherwise we will be back next year.. or sooner.. thanks.."

Thank you to all your staff for
providing my group of 21 friends with an area for ourselves, and for great, prompt, friendly, unobtrusive service to a flowing, mix-it-up crowd. We enjoyed the space, the food, the bar, the clean washrooms. And we were pleased that we weren't drowned out by a loud TV or music set so that we could actually hear ourselves and each other! So thanks to all who were involved in making our Christmas Get-Together a success on Wednesday, December 11th."

I've been here over the years many
times and have enjoyed the food and ambience; however, I will never book a large group here again. It took almost an hour just to get our first drinks. Nowhere was it mentioned that there was a smaller menu with very few choices. They couldn't possibly have said it was because they were full because when we were waiting for the hour for our first drink it was 6pm and a virtually empty restaurant. I brought in over 30 people and it was very dissapointing at their lack of service or recognition that they had a large party. Very dissapointed."

It was a dark, cold, December
night, and I remember looking in the window at nearby Homer Street Cafe, all lit up, and thinking 'THAT place looks warms and welcoming!' In contrast, I entered Subeez and it was dark, black and depressing in ambience. I had to use the flashlight app on my smartphone to read the menu. The music - 70's Disco - was cranked to the max. The bartender was tripping on it, dancing maniacally, but for us diners, (the restaurant was almost empty) it was just noise, so loud, my friend and I couldn't maintain a conversation across the table from each other. Asked the server politely to turn it down, which she did. Service was good. Food was good. Ambience needs a major make-over."

Delightful waiter, amazing food,
group of seven, everyone had something different and everyone really enjoyed what they had. It was all hot, fresh, tasty, good value. Some kind of hold up in the kitchen, but it was worth the wait. Menu changed since I was last there. Interesting decor, art changes regularly so do look around and up. Cool music selection."
