Diner Reviews
  • "Me and my date went to eat at Stroubes for diner last Saturday before our prom and needless to say they where amazing! The service and food was fantastic and we greatly enjoyed ourselves, I got the chargrilled oysters and she got the shrimp and grits! I will without a doubt be returning to see how the rest of the menu is!"

  • "Turtle Soup was salty, seafood pasta watery, food was brought out fast to the point we didn't have time to finish drinks or our appetizers."

  • "This was my first time in Baton Rouge and Stroubes was an amazing place to eat. Loved the Scallops!"

  • "Again, Stroubes was fantastic. Chef Mark has brought some new twists to the menu that you will love. Look forward to our next visit."

  • "We recently enjoyed an excellent meal and are already looking forward to our next visit. Our waiter was great and the food was superb. I highly recommend Stroubes."

  • "There was a party going on, so there was a lot of noise."

  • "The food and service was outstanding. This was only my second visit, and I would highly recommend Stroube's as a favorite!"

  • "All was great with exception of two things: 1. Soups were too salty; started with duck gumbo and so salty had to send back. Waiter graciously switched my order to the Corn/Crab Bisque but it too was very salty. 2. While the hot French bread was great, we had to ask the waiter for bread & butter plates, which are routine in most good restaurants Loved the wine list."

  • "The staff was extremely pleasant. In fact the best part of the experience. Food was good, but not compelling. Noise level made it difficult to hear across the table. Poor marks for noise level. I love the intimacy of the booth seating, but the noise level more than trashed the potential for a nice conversation. I would definitely come for special occasions, but too expensive to make it a habit."

  • "The food was gret but it was right after the Spanish Town Parade which made it a little precarious getting there and back to the car. Our fault for not remembering"

  • "Saturday was a very busy night for the area- sold-out concert at the River Center, 2 Mardi Gras parades and a Mardi Gras ball. Stroubes was very busy! But, my party of 4 was seated immediately (with a reservation) and service was impeccable for the entire meal. We had duck rolls and oysters as appetizers (both were great). My husband had the fish special and I had the tuna as our entrees. Both were delicious (the crawfish risotto was incredible, too). I had the creme brûlée for dessert (divine). We had a wonderful dining experience, with incredible food- and impeccable service!! Will definitely be returning- and I would highly recommend dining at Stroube's before any events at the River Center- it's a very short walk to the River Center."

  • "Had a romantic dinner at Stroubes with my boyfriend. Food was delicious. It had been a while since I last dined there and the food was just as great after a few years. Highly recommend it for a special night out."

  • "Eveneing out with out of town friends whom are newbies to Stroubes. The filet, red fish, and flounder entrees were all fabulous in flavor, presentation, and texture. The noise level was considerably greater than usual as there were several large parties of mardis gras revelers bound for the ball. People watching on 3rd street made for great unexpected entertainment. Our service has always been top notch at Stroubes and the young lady Saturday night may very well be the best. Geaux Riley!"

  • "My wife's salmon was served with asparagus and grits. Everything was tasty. I had never heard of a pork T-bone, but at 16 oz it was hard to turn down. I ordered it medium, expecting that it would be cooked until all the pink was gone. It arrived with pink near the center. If it was beef, it would have been grilled to perfection. However, I was uncomfortable with pink pork, so I sent it back. The waitress understood and returned with the platter sizzling medium-well. It was fantastic. It was served with garlic grits with a little rivulet of au jus around the edges. I could not finish the whole thing, so guess what I had for lunch the next day? Even then, the meat was still tender."

  • "I often travel 3rd street and liked the location of the restaurant so I made anniversary reservations a month early. We were promptly seated so that was a plus. We started with the Abita Shrimp & Grits and the Corn, Crab, & Brie Bisque.... both very good but I've had better shrimp; would definitely get the Bisque again. For entrée, I had the Duck which was perfectly cooked medium well and not a bit dry, although the serving was smaller than I anticipated. Hubby had the rib eye cooked medium and was quite pleased Rounded off with green beans (best I have ever tasted), whipped potatoes, and the best table bread any restaurant ever offered, this was a perfect anniversary dinner. First time visit but definitely not the last!"

  • "The service and ambience were excellent, but it pretty much ended there. The wine list is rather limited for this type of restaurant. My wife and I both found the food to be over the top rich and over seasoned, and we like tasty food. This is the first time we've ever felt this way about restaurant food. The turtle soup and lobster bisque (special) were both rather salty. The turtle soup was so thick and rich that it could have been served as a sauce over a fish dish. Both the mahi and pork porterhouse entrees were very salty as well, and the pork was very tough."

  • "Stroube's has a great waitstaff who are conscientious but not hovering. The menu has a lot to offer but makes it on two pages and the food is always excellent. There is often a little extra twist with each dish, a special butter glaze, caramelized onions or bacon. One of the most enjoyable facets of Stroube's is that it embraces its view of downtown Baton Rouge. The restaurant is walled with huge windows that take in the passing scene of 3rd Street while you eat. It makes you feel like you are truly dining downtown in the City."

  • "The wait staff was excellent. The food was unbeatable. We will most certainly be going back to dinner at Stroubes so we can taste even more. Everything we tried was absolutely phenomenal!--appetizer, entree and dessert! :)"

  • "This was my first time dining at Stroubes and I was very impressed. For Valentine's Day, one would typically hope for a very romantic setting with great ambiance. This place had that. The food was delicious, as was the wine we purchased. Our server was adorably sweet and the service from the bar/kitchen was speedy and on point. I would definitely dine here again!"

  • "Don't normally go downton Baton Rouge but menu interested us and it was a very good experience. We had seafood, the grilled Mahi Mahi and Salmon which were both delicious but looking forward to go back and try steaks. The starters and the dessert were the biggest hit for us. The dessert menu was suprisingly small given the wide range of selections for entrees, only cheesecake and bread pudding, but the bread puddng was one of the best I have had, Warm with bits of white chocolate and cinnamon and topped with a rich praline sauce. Starters range from traditional to continental. We had the escargot which consisted of several large snails atop a puff pastry soaking up a rich sauce which was delicious. We could have made a meal with those."

  • "To start off with a reservation we were seated at a booth that faced the kitchen---we think this table should be used for walk ins---not someone who has taken the time to make a reservation. Now onto the food--Stroube roll, green beans, lobster mac n cheese, casear salad were very good along with the Baby Back Rib plate. What surprised us was the filets they were overcooked to what we ordered and the toppings that were ordered were served on the side."

  • "One of the best restaurants you will find in Baton Rouge. The food atmosphere and service was first class! We will definitely be returning for future visits!"
    Dined on 2/1/2014
  • "The restaurant was not prepared for the large crowd before the concert. They were out of our wine selection, out of a main entree, and out of our favorite side dish. Service was spopttyu and delayed probably due to the full house."

  • "Great restaurant right downtown Baton Rogue - they like to cook things in butter! But, it was good!"

  • "My soup was cold and had to send it back. The second time it was warmer and had a great flavor. Oysters were good. My catfish was hot and great but the topping was not hot so brought it home. Don't know why restaurants can't serve hot food any more. It's not just this place it seems to be the trend at a lot of places now."

  • "Great appetizer (scallops): pitiful tomato basil soup way too salty and texture mushy;creamed spinach with too little spinach and also way too salty ( and I am a salt lover); very good Redfish dish; super Stroube's salad. server with some artificiality to her concerns, but friendly. Spouse had tough, but tasty Sirloin; excellent bisque. Dessert of French Silk Pie tasted like it was bought from Sam's wholesale. Downer from prior visit, but will return and hope for the TOTAL package to improve."

  • "The appetizers were great. The wait staff was excellent. Unfortunately 3 steaks, e ordered medium rare (2), medium (1) arrived at the table all overcooked. As it was late, 2 of the party did not send their meals back. At that price point mine went back. The replacement arrived quickly and was prepared perfectly. Maybe just an off night. I like the area and will give them a 2nd try at some point."

  • "When the entrees arrived I took my fork and pressed down onto the top of my steak and I could tell that it was too firm and I cut into the filet and my fear was confirmed. It was cooked to Medium. I didn't want to complain so I ate it. While dining I glanced over at the guy who ordered his filet Medium with no topping and his steak appeared to be Medium Rare. Apparently the steaks got mixed up. I feel that it was an honest "misteak" (haha get it?). But at a high end restaurant like Stroubes and for the price of the filet I expect my steak temperature to be correct. Especially for a Filet Mignon. No fear. I will be back in the future to give Stroubes a second chance because I'm always in search of a good USDA Prime Filet Mignon."
