Diner Reviews
  • "Overall quality seems to be slipping. It's not what it use to be."

  • "My Wife and I enjoyed dinner at this restaurant with one of our very dear friends recently and have to say, Strega Waterfront was an absolute pleasure. We had a 5:00pm reservation, but ran about 10 minutes late due to unexpected traffic in the tunnels on I90. I called before our scheduled arrival to make the Host aware of our plight, whereupon I was thanked for the call, and at arrival, (about 10 minutes late, by the way), we're quickly whisked to what I think was the nicest table in the room. Wow! These folks are a real class act, and one of the better Italian restaurants we've been to since moving to Boston in 2008. The staff was courteous, responsive and professional. The food and drinks were fantastic. Highly recommended. We'll be back."

  • "The food and service were excelllent. I ordered the grilled sea bass, my girlfriend had the lobster ravioli. The salads, appetizers, and martinis were excellent as well."

  • "Birthday celebration - we had a great corner table. Wait staff terrific. The dinner portions were enormous. Had the special that evening ( seafood fra diavlo) which was loaded with seafood/lobster. Our whole group really enjoyed themselves."

  • "Perfect for business meetings/dinners as well as intimate nights out. What I liked most? We had an amazing meal and everything was taken care of and I barely noticed the table service. It was seamless. My party and I were able to hold an uninterrupted conversation and still had everything we needed from a dinner and drink perspective. Well done Strega!"

  • "The food at Strega Waterfront is simply delectable. You cannot be disappointed!"

  • "Party of 4-The caprese salad was excellent. Two of 4 had the pistachio encrusted salmon and loved it. It appeared the garlic mashed potatoes were not "from scratch" but the beets were an unusual and nice compliment to the salmon. There was a "bone-in" ribeye with roasted potatoes and I had the short rib dinner. The waiter was very accommodating as to my request for asparagus but I assume the chef didn't like the change because I was served just asparagus ends rather than whole spears. For the price, that was a disappointment. The fettuccini alfredo was good with just the right amount of sauce and the short rib was well-seasoned and cooked though slightly fatty. A tad expensive but we all liked our dinner. Choose carefully and enjoy!"

  • "My co-workers and I dined at Strega during restaurant week for lunch. The pre-fixed menu had a lot of great options. Everyone's favorite seemed to be the eggplant for the first course. Another favorite was the linquine with clams. And last but not least, the tiramisu was absolutely delicious. We would all return again to sample the other dishes on the menu. The view is very nice and we would like to sit outdoors when we finally get some warmer weather."

  • "We went for restaurant week lunch. You'd expect them to be nice, have good food, and want to impress to add business during this week. However, it was the exact opposite. We were there for over two hours for lunch. Lunch should be timely. The food portions were miniature at best and of poor quality. Two of the five dishes were fairly cold. The wait staff was professional but very slow and sometimes unavailable. Overall very disappointed. Will not be back as this is the 2nd time with a similar experience. Fool me twice...."

  • "Went here for lunch during restaurant week! Delicious food and beautiful presentation. Service was great; everyone was very courteous and attentive. Our waiter, in particular, was really friendly and funny! Beautiful ambiance, and the waterfront is very close. Would love to go there again!"

  • "We went here as a group for work and the meal was terrific! Each dish was well-prepared and incredibly delicious. I had the steak which was incredibly good of course. Other people had seafood risotto and short ribs and were suitably impressed. The service was very attentive and the meal was enjoyed by all. I would definitely recommend - only caveat is it is kind of pricey."

  • "I was anxious to go to Strega Waterfront because I read about it frequently; many high profile people go there so I figured it was worth trying. Great location. I wish it were warm so we could enjoy the outdoor seating. I was not impressed with the food. It was OK, but that has been my general impression of food during restaurant week. I would think restaurants would put their best out to encourage people to come back because they had a great experience. No so; at least this week. The service was excellent but we had to ask for the restaurant week menu. I would go back because it was a cool ambience and great location, not for the food."

  • "Arrived a little early for our reservation, party of 6. We tried to go to the bar but it was packed, not the best set up for the bar. Luckily, the table was ready early. The waiter was very attentive and the service was great. The food was delicious and the wine list was impressive. We had everything on the appetizer menu, some were misses but that's to be expected. My favorite was the mac n cheese side, crab and avocado salad, and their complimentary bread/olive was awesome."

  • "We went for Dine Out week with 4 other colleagues. The Encrusted Cod looked great and my colleague loved it. The appetizer I had was wonderful. I had the Tuna Carpaccio (looked great too). The Veal Saltimbocca was my entrée and it was good. Presentation was not great. The Tiramisu was ok as well (presented fine, but taste was average). I give the appetizer great/high marks."

  • "I have the seafood risotto and the risotto was undercooked and dry. I had to send my meal back because this is not the quality of food that I want to eat or pay for. This ruined my appetite for the rest of the meal. Our server did not notice that I was not eating my entree, I had to waive him down to let him know that my meal was unacceptable. When the server came back with a different entree he did not come back to see how I was doing. Strega Waterfront was a huge disappointment and does not live up to the quality that I expected since Strega North End is my favorite Italian restaurant."

  • "Our group of 6 had a great experience this past weekend. We opted for the Restaurant Week menu, and were not disappointed in the number of options and outstanding meals! 5 star service, great views, more accessible than the hectic Seaport scene just down the street. We'll be back, especially when the weather permits to sit outside and enjoy the prime waterfront views - and plan on trying Strega's location in the North End soon."

  • "The service was good although a couple of inappropriate sexual innuendo was stated by the waitstaff. Our main meals were underseasoned and we all left 1/2 or more of our meals on the plate. This is not the usual for Strega and I was very embarrassed to have raved about the restaurant and have such a poor experience with the individuals I brought there. I have in the past had exceptional experiences at Strega and that is the reason I have rated it 3 stars. For the most recent meal I would rank it a 1.5."

  • "My wife and i went to Strega waterfront on a Saturday night the restaurant was packed and so was the bar area. Also the restaurant was very noisy my wife and i were sitting 2 feet across from each other and had to yell the whole time. Our server was amazing he treated us like we where the only ones in the dining room. Our food was quick and had a great flavor she had the stuffed veal chop and i had the linguine with clams, best i have ever had. Although the clams had a little grit in them i understand because i am a chef and know that when you work with fresh you cant get it all out. i had the "boom boom" which was incredible and came recommended by our server my wife didn't like her cocktail so he brought a new one for free. Great night."

  • "My boyfriend and I went to Strega for restaurant week. Once I told the waiter that was what we were there for, I feel as if our service was different, worse. The menu was practically inexistent and not really vegetarian friendly. Very little options in other words, such little that we decided to scrap the restaurant week menu and look at the real menu. Their real menu was better, although on the pricier side. And of course, once we told our waiter we were switching back to the regular menu, our service picked up a bit. Overall, I would recommend this place if you're going with a small group of friends or a date...if you're willing to pay a little extra."

  • "Fresh and tastey burata salad was followed by tuna carpacio then parmesan crusted cod alongside risotto which was outstanding, to finish the tiramisu was extremely light but with plenty flavor. Service was attentive and helpful."

  • "We had a great lunch. Food, service and overall experience were fabulous. The only downside, and reason I didn't give it 5 stars, was that the prix fix menu for restaurant week had 2 desserts listed, one which they did not have. we went at 1230 on Tuesday, 4 days into restaurant week, you should not be out of one of your featured items."

  • "We had a party of 7 and we ere seated at the far end of the restaurant. Great spot for us. the food was great. The wine list overwhelming. Our waiter Ryan was more than attentive and very friendly. He was a joy to have. Certainly we will return."

  • "Went for restaurant week lunch. Never been before. Portions were small, but thats what you expect on Restaurant week. I got the Chicken PLT. That was a good size sandwich, but kind of boring and not great. Got the eggplant rollatini which was amazing and Tirimisui was also fantastic. MY friend got ziti pomodoro and it was small portion but their sauce is grandmas best. Did get to see the cool bar with fireplace which seemed awesome. I hope they have patio seating in the summer for the beautiful waterfront view! Oh and service was supreme. Maybe too good that the waiter seemed overly happy to be working there, but thats maybe a good thing!"

  • "We were very excited to go to Strega Waterfront for restuarant week, however, we were slightly dissapointed with the overall experience. The service and food was excellent for the most part - but, my pork was slightly overcooked and tough which was disappointing, and we felt rushed between the main course and dessert. We were looking forward to ordering after dinner cocktails, but had no time to place an order as we were handed the check as soon as the dessert was set down which game minutes after our dinner plates were cleared. For the most part it was a great meal, and all of the servers were very kind, but I am not convinced that I would return. I was also confused by the hostess's atire - I felt like i was in a late night lounge."

  • "I came here for my first time during restaurant week and left so full and extremely happy with my meal. The portions were a great size - much larger than expected given that its a 3 course meal. The food was delicious! We all ordered different plates so we could try all of them, and we were not disappointed with any of the dishes. The meatball with accompanying ricotta cheese melts in your mouth, the pork loin was extremely flavorful and tender, and the tiramisu was one of the best I've had (not dry at all!). I liked the low lighting and ambience of the place, and there is a nice view of the water if you sit near the windows. The service was great too."

  • "Had lunch here yesterday, it was simply amazing. From the service, to the burrata appetizer, to the limencello chicken, couldn't stop thinking about it all day. I can't wait to go back again. I would have the same exact meal again, and again, and again. Service was top notch, it's my favorite place in the neighborhood for a nice meal."

  • "We had a party of 5; all people from out of town and based on a friend's recommendation I booked Strega Waterfront. Wonderful, attentive waiter. Great Meatball appetizer. Extremely loud restaurant. Delicious entrees. This was a home run -- just be prepared for the noise level."

  • "Fantastic dishes, perfect ambiance and world class service made for the best meal I have had in Boston. More formal than the North End location but same delicious food and quality. Great for a special night out. Very reasonable prices considering the quality of the food."

  • "The service and food were outstanding. I have dined at Strega in the North End, and this was every bit as good. I enjoyed the location and ambiance more here. It was more open and roomier. From the moment we arrived the experience was great. The staff were courteous and attentive. Excellent food and super wine list. You wont be disappointed."

  • "Went on a Wed night for business dinner. Was initially afraid of the noise level based on other reviews. Wasn't an issue even though restaurant was full. Went with the special which was a seafood trio (ahi, swordfish and shrimp). It was good but based on Strega's reputation (and price) I was expecting more. The fish was a very thin cut which lends to it being cooked more than I like - esp the ahi which I enjoy seared rare. To be fair should have tried one of the dishes for which they gained their reputation. Great wine list, service was fabulous and it is a beautiful restaurant in a great up and coming area. I'd go back, but there are also so many other great restaurants I'd probably try first."

  • "Excellent service, sat a small table for two, it was a little tight against the wall. got the surf and turf special , stuffed lobster tail was excellent, the filet mignon was average. cost $68.00 thought that was over priced. My wife had the filet mignon , she really enjoyed the food."
