Nick Varano, owner of Strega, Strega Waterfront, and Nico Ristorante in the Boston area is opening a new high-end Italian steakhouse in Woburn where he wants "everyone to feel like a celebrity."   • "Opened with drinks at the bar, outstanding service and drinks, especially dirty martini. Staff was well informed and attentive. Recommendations were spot on. Food-fantastic. Extensive wine list, however---extremely expensive, way over the top, usually I am a wine drinker but I only had one glass because of the cost/quality. When I recommend this restaurant to my friends I will remind them to order mixed drinks, not wine. I will definitely go back."

  • "We enjoyed the atmosphere and the outstanding service of Strega Prime, however the food was mediocre at best. The tuna appetizer was excellent, but the entrees were bland and lacked creativity. I had the fettuccine with mushroom sauce; the pasta was aldente, but the dish lacked any layered flavor. My husband had swordfish. The cut was thin, lacking succulence, was under-seasoned, and very disappointing. All in all the evening was nice since the atmosphere is swanky and the service friendly and professional, but we won't be returning any time soon. There are other fine dining restaurants in the area that blow away the food."

  • "A place I have wanted to try since it opened. the food is very good, very generous portions especially for a lunch menu. A very nice wine list and just plain exceptional service. My granddaughter and I had two different items. She the lobster roll which was loaded with big chuncks of lobster. she thought it was excellent. i chose one of the prixe fixe items. Ity was a very large chicken breast milanese. an excellent redition of an old stanby with a lovely lemony sauce. the veggies, we ordered a side of asparagus were just right. I had a very nice and not over the top San Giovese. the server, Jay was perfect. There was attention but unobtrusively so. I plan to return again ."

  • "The restaurant clearly is reaching high for excellence. For the most part, they meet expectations, we had a pleasant motivated waitress, good seat, cheerful and helpful wait staff, good food. I'll never understand how a steak house messes up rare/medium rare/ medium/ medium-well when it is what they DO, but they managed to mess up my husband's steak twice, finally got it right. We had a marvelous time. My only comment, if they want to be world-class, which they clearly do, they need to get rid of the thugs and chics at the front door. It is a throwback in time, just one opinion."

  • "I have to say this place was incredible! The steak was unreal and everything from the decor, to the atmospehere, to the staff had a romantic and sophisticated feel. We felt like celebrities. I absolutely loved it. Although I will say if you're looking for a cheap date night, this is not the place to go to....with that being said it is 100% worth the cost. If anyone is looking for a delicious meal and to have an extraordinary wine and dine experience, this is the place to be! Absolutely top-notch!"

  • "I have eaten at Strega Prime 5 -6 times. The first few times the food was excellent, and the service great. The last 2 occasions, I was not impressed, maybe because I had the same waiter. The meat was ok, it did not rival The Captitale Grille. This time, I had ordered my steak medium rare and my friend ordered his rare. They were reversed. First, we were in a hurry, otherwise we would have send them back. In addition, we never saw our waiter until we had almost finished our meals, and when he was informed he told us that the cook must have missed up the orders???? I will give them one more try. Be well"

  • "A Friday night reservation where we did not have to wait for our table? Yes! Appetizers - beet salad, steak tartar, oysters, all impeccably prepared and delicious. Popovers, with rosemary and gruyere cheese, were an inspiration. Sirloin steak and fruitte de pesce, served as part of dine out Boston, were outstanding entrees. Dessert and coffee capped the meal off perfectly. The wine list is absolutely massive. The service was among the best I have experienced, ever. I can't wait to return for Sunday brunch, or dinner again."

The steak au poivre is fantastic and the truffle fries are delicious. We had calamari appetizer to share and a brownie sundae for dessert. All in all a wonderful night!"

  • "It was a celebration for my wife's 45 birthday. I originally was planning on having 5 or 6 couples and thus wanted a private room with a healthy splash of "Italian Rat-Pack" ambiance. My wife is not only 100% Italian but very cool to boot. (Nancy Sinatra would be proud.) I met with Amy two weeks in advance and went over the particulars...unfortunately with in 3 days of our appointment the guest list came down to just the two couples; canceled the private room & spoke w/ Lauren who advised a semi-private round booth for a little privacy but right in the heart of the main dinning room...which was perfect! Food was excellent, Steaks & Drinks +, dinning room was high energy but VERY enjoyably. Would recommend to a friend Thanks Joe and Staff!"

  • "Great atmosphere. I travel quite a bit around the USA on a regular basis and this steak restaurant measures up with the best of them. It's a bit pricy and that is because you get what you pay for. We spend 4hrs there and it went quickly. The bar area is also a nice mix of an upscale sports bar, with large seating area."

  • "Used restaurant week to try out the new Strega Prime. Was very impressednd thefood and service were exceptional. Even talke dto waitress and host about he prices of some of their specialty items. If you can eat 16 oz of beef then gof or it, but they are not against a couple gettting an appetizer and salad and tehn sharing the 16 oz steak or prime rib. So it can be not as expensive as you may think."

My spouse had the lunch sirloin, and found it bit too fatty, also a but chewy - not bad enough to send back, but we have had a better steak at Jimmy's on Route 1 in Saugus. I had the Pappardale, and while the pasta was outstanding, the meat sauce wasn't as good as I expected."

  • "We have been meaning to visit Strega Prime since it opened and Restaurant Week was the perfect excuse to finally make it there. We are fans of the North End restaurant and can now add this to our list of excellent restaurants. Everyone ordered different apps and meals and everything came out perfectly. A great wine list and a fantastic server made this a really great evening. Though we did not visit the bar, it looks like a great space and will definitely plan on returning again in the future."

  • "3 of us went for lunch. 2 of us had the sirloin steak which was excellent. The other person had the salmon which they said was very good. Loved that they came around with popovers. Desert was cheesecake which was tasty. One person in our party was gluten free and they were very helpful with the menu. We will definitely go back."

  • "We loved the relaxed feel of the bar and the comfortable ambience of the dining room. We definitely would return to try other dishes. We ordered shrimp cocktail,a lobster tail, veal dumplings and a caprese salad. These appetizers were great choices and each was beautifully presented and the portions were plentiful or sharing. The filet mignon and rib eye steaks were amazing and cooked to perfection. The service was cordial and well-timed. We didn't feel rushed at any time. Our server recommended "Cherry Pie 2011 Pinot Noir by Jason Woodbridge which was a perfect with our steak entree's; which were accompanied by our twice baked potatoes and grilled asparagus."

  • "Strega Prime was a huge disappointment. They broke the Cardinal Rule of a Steak House. THEY OVERCOOKED ALL OUR STEAKS. When presented to the Manager, his comment was that the lighting was bad at our table. Frankly a burnt steak is a burnt steak even if you are in a cave. I should have driven another exit down on 128 and had dinner at the Capital Grill a real Steak House. I will not be back to Strega Prime."

  • "My husband and I are big fans of Dine Out Boston, a/k/a Restaurant Week and we try to visit several new restaurants each time the event takes place. We also have a few favorites that we always try return to. This was our first visit to Strega Prime in Woburn and we were both very pleased and impressed. Everything we ordered was delicious and pleasing to the eye as well. Our waitress, Marjorie, was friendly, knowledgeable, efficient and certainly contributed to a very positive experience. We will surely return in the not too distant future."
