Diner Reviews
  • "Helpful, friendly wait staff, well-prepared, high quality food. We were warmly greeted by each staff member and given a very nice table. I would not hesitate, to return, particularly if wanted to impress an out-of-town guest. I would rate overall higher if it were not for the prices which I felt were on the higher side even for Boston, my hometown."

  • "We enjoyed our meal! Great service, nice wine list."

  • "Another outstanding dinner at the Strega. I had a wonderful Veal Sorrentina and my wife had an excellent sea bass. Eash was paired with the appropriate homemade pasta, also outstanding. the appetizer we had, a porcinci mushroom ravioli, was to die for. We went there for my wife's birthday; it was worth driving three hours. Our waiter, Gianni, was spot-on, and tried to make my wife, who was not feeling well, as comfortable as possible."

  • "Upon entering Strega we felt as if we were entering Nana Spatola's dining room. The servers spoke with a soothing deep Italian accent and we were waited on by at least (4) from three generations. We started off with the Caprese - good! Next we shared a wonderful ravioli covered in the most delicious light mushroom sauce - Excellent! Three of us had Fettucine Strega - portions fantastic - the strega sauce was light and very flavorful. One of us had Casarecci Di Marina - good but would have liked it without the sun-dried tomatoes. We were then visited by the local neighborhood Acapella group that serenaded the guests - They were just wonderful. Great Experience - we went back to our conference and suggested Strega - North End!"

  • "Read mixed reviews about this place, so we weren't sure what to expect. The food was good and the staff was attentive. The place is bustling with a lot activity in small place, which we liked since we had 2 teenagers with us. Not as formal as the other north End restaurants that we saw... That suits us just fine."

  • "We had a great dining experience at Strega. The restaurant has been around many years and the food has always been consistently good. They have a great wine list and offer traditional Italian specialties with a broad selection of specials. Highly recommend."

  • "I think that this place is more notable because of the name. The food was good, and it came out fast. I like to be able to sit at a restaurant and not feel rushed, so that is a major reason why I liked this place, I didn't feel like I had to order right away and that they were trying to scoot us out fast. It is kind of a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, I definitely was expecting and would have liked a more up-scale type establishment, especially given the reputation. I did however find out that Strega Waterfront has that more upscale feel so I will most likely go there the next time I'm craving Lobster Ravioli in pink sauce or the Fettucini Strega, which were the two meals we got and were awesome."

  • "True Sicilian gem here - right out of Palermo - food is the real country Sicilian. We will go there first thing on our next trip to Boston"

  • "Food was incredible!! I had the special and my fiancé had the seafood Strega and both were amazing! Tiramisu was the best I ever had too! Only downside is that they are a small place and it took 30 minutes past our reservation time to be seated, and it is not a full bar (no grey goose). But it was a great food experience!"

  • "Food was wonderful as usual. Would have liked desert, but was presented bill instead. Maybe next time."

  • "Smaller place with great Italian food. We has an open window seat."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "After being seated we waited 10 minutes without a server taking our order (not even for drinks). This was not a huge deal in and of itself, so I asked the hostess who our waiter was. He swooped in at this point, without apologizing for the wait, and proceeded to be curt, disrespectful, inattentive, and just overall unpleasant to us for the remainder of the meal. Finally, after we politely declined dessert, he responded simply with a brusk "okay" and walked away without another word. Considering how many other quality restaurants exist in the North End, the service side of things is crucial for a restaurant like Strega. We will not be returning."

  • "Real Italian food is not supposed to be strange or inaccessible. Strega has outstanding Italian, huge portions and genuine Italian hospitality. Everything is wonderful, but the specials are the best!"

  • "I entertained 14 people over dinner and while the food was great the wait staff were rude and slow. Never a please, never a thank you. Space is cramped."

  • "This place was phenomenal. The food was delicious and the wait staff were friendly and genuine. The mob movies playing on the wall add to the Italian-esque setting."

  • "Great food and service!! The gnocchi were the lightest and fluffiest I've ever had. The best in the North End."

  • "This is one of the THE best places to go in the north end. Food is fantastic and service is above excellent. Love, love this place. I recommend this place all the time. Its the ONLY place I go to for dinner"

  • "Wasn't the worst place I've been to. We did go at 10:30 at night but it was a Friday, but when we got there it looked like they were closing up, even though we had an 11pm reservation & there were other dinners. Food was good, only awkward moment was when they asked if they could take away our appetizer (calamari) when we had only eaten about 1/4 of it. Thought that was odd. Descent beer and wine list. Place was clean. Food was fresh. I'll probably go earlier and give them another try next time. "

  • "We celebrated my daughters' 21st birthday at Strega. The reservations worked out fine and the valet parking was great due to extremely limited North End parking and an elderly person in our group. The wait staff was very attentive and patient. They also belted out a great version of Happy Birthday for my daughters. It was an excellent dining experience for a special occasion. I've also had lunch here in the past and was never disappointed. • "nice, but the tv's with bloody scenes from the godfather and goodfella's etc. are not what you want on tv while you are eating."

  • "Well we were not let down by Strega. Went there in a recommendation and so glad we did. Our good was outstanding. Very generous portions. Server was nice and very attentive. The TV's running the mob movies aren't really as cheesey as I thought they would be. Noise level is high but you should expect that in this type of restaurant. It's something I actually prefere. Feels like more energy which is cool. "

  • "Even if you don't see what you want on the menu just ask and they will make it anyways ....taste just as good, if not better as anywhere else."

  • "Dinner was fabulous matched with impeccable service. We were also greeted by Joe who made sure we were well taken care of. The food was authentic and well prepared. We have been to all 3 Stregas and they are all great. A Barbershop Quartet (but there were 5 or 6) strolled through the dining room and added to the fun and ambience. They were really good. We will be sure to stop in again next time in the North End. "

  • "Went to Strega with a group from work on a recommendation from my husband and was disappointed. Felt rushed, the waiter was boarder-line rude and not friendly. It was very hard to engage in a conversation the noise level was loud. The food was good, but not great. With so many restuarants in the North End to choose from really thing they need to step up there game. During dinner a group of Acappella sings entertained each table. They were very loud, so even when they passed to the next table it still over powered your conversation."

  • "A friend told us about the great food at this restaurant- and they hit the nail on the head! Wow! The meals we enjoyed were nothing short of fabulous. This small neighborhood gem was very lively and loud - not the place for a quiet conversation. We felt a bit rushed towards the end of our meal as the next group of diners had arrived and were huddled around the bar waiting for tables. Clearly we had selected a popular eatery!! Definitely on our list of go-to places in Boston. "

  • "Finally able to try Strega after hearing all the good things about it and its famous cousin on the waterfront, where I have only gone for drinks. Space is tight but adds to the rustic feel, fellow diners are right next to you. Food was well prepared and satisfying. Staff was very nice, bartender gave a great pour of prosecco which is always appreciated. Waiter was very solid, offered some suggestions including a nice twist to our wine selection but seemed to be having an bit of an off-night, but maybe that's his manner. Support staff was very helpful and never worried about having the water glass empty, nice clearing of plates and all the little things you expect were done in a nice way. Definitely on my list of NE places to revisit."

  • "I wish the portions were a little bigger for the price, and also wish we had a salad with our meal."

  • "Food was ok, nothing special. Service was way too fast for a Saturday night evening - we were in and out in about 45 minutes. The waiter neglected to tell us about the daily specials. We wouldn't have known this except that we heard him recite the specials to another table. Tables were very small and crowded together. Very noisy. The one good thing was that they gave us a free tiramisu dessert, presumably because we had complained about not being told about the specials. The dessert was the best part of the meal!"

  • "The food was awesome, our party of 6 loved everything! It's a small restaurant so the noise level is high."

  • "Dont' bother unless everyplace else is full. Although the wait staff was authentic and relatively attentive, the food is fair at best; they must share recipes with Olive Garden because it's not much better. Every dish tasted the same; smothered with red sauce and cheese to hide what was underneath I guess."

  • "I've heard many things about ther famous Strega in the North End. Our party of 10 wasn't all on time, but the hostess said she'd sit us, if "we ordered some food quickly". This was a turn off to me, but our friendly waiter, Johnnie, said no problem. Service was very good, noice level was very loud and hard to hear people at our table, and food was good, but not great. I had the veal medallions in port wine sauce that was excellent. My wife had the lobster ravioli which was made with a heavy pasta shell, dry tasting and needed more sauce. Others had various pasta dishes which they enjoyed. Glad we went, but probably will not return to Strega for awhile."

  • "Even if you are Italian...you'll find the food at Strega to provide you with "just like mom's" taste and experience. The wait staff is wonderful-making excellent suggestions. The specials were amazing and wine list extensive. Leave room for the "nutella" dessert....something you won't find ANYWHERE else!! A must visit!"

  • "Flavors were dull. Menu was small. Not what you'd expect at an Italian restaurant in the north end. Seating was incredibly cramped. Food was priced much higher than what it was worth. Not an enjoyable experience. "

  • "This was the 3rd time we've eaten at Strega North and it was perfect once again! The dinners were outrageously delicious and the service was great."

  • "Two of our party ordered from the specials. Our server gave descriptions but not the prices for the specials. The specials were good food, but 2 times the price of most of the regular menu items. "

  • "Had a 7:30pm reservation on a Saturday night. Was very crowded and noisy, but we didn't mind waiting for about 15 minutes to be seated. Our waiter promptly took our drink order and came back to tell us about the specials. Service was fantastic - waiter was very attentive, although it was busy, and personable. Great food, a bit expensive. Had the mushroom ravioli for an appetizer, which was over-the-top delicious. I had the lamb special and husband had the steak special - both were fabulous. Only issue was the noise level - tables are on top of each other for maximum number of guests so it was very loud. All in all, a perfect evening."

  • "Very small, very tight, very dark. The service and food were great. no full bar, which in part is my fault for not asking. The table we sat at was really small and did not have enough room for all the plates and glasses. Over all not horrible, but will probebly choose another place next time. Very cool the the 6 movies playing on the TVs"

  • "I had a party of 6 people meeting up from different locations in Boston, and we all left early to make it to our 8:00 reservation on time. Four of us arrived early, but my friend and her boyfriend informed us they were stuck in traffic. When I went to check in with the hostess, I was not greeted with warmth because my entire party wasn't present. I do understand that policy states that the entire party must be present to sit down; however my friends were on their way and stuck in traffic, and we were more than ready to start ordering wine and appetizers. We were asked to wait in the bar area, where we were in the way of waiters and busboys. Despite our rude start, our waiter, Carl, was phenomenal and attentive. Our meals were incredible."
