We lunch once a month in San Francisco and decided to try out Straw this month. It's a fabulous little find! We made a reservation for 10am when they opened but we didn't need one as the place had plenty of seating - although by the time we left there was a line. So get there early! We loved drinking water from mason jars and loved the names of the plates. Everything was great and the portion were plentiful. I will say that the menu doesn't cater to kids but the wait staff was super accommodating and brought us more of the things my son liked - so he was happy.

This place was so fabulous on my birthday! Who doesn't want to get serenaded by strobe lights and your style of pop or hip hop classic birthday song! The candle in the cotton candy blew ME away. Great times, great food, great service!

Nachos - delightful and would've only been better had there been more tomatoes and and onions. The Ringmaster - 2 donuts sandwiching a cheeseburger and a side salad. The side salad was wonderful with a nice vinaigrette. The donuts were a little too sweet with the burger, which was overcooked and slightly underseasoned. The peanut butter mousse dessert was okay - not what I'd call the best pork dessert.. the bacon was a little too salty and contrasted just a bit too much with the peanut butter mousse and chocolate fudge. The mousse and fudge did go well together, and the caramel slightly pulled the elements together better.

Astronomical food for someone who loves to indulge. Specifically the Ringmaster, the mac 'n' cheese, the Bearded Lady, and the waffle were all wicked. My order was the Ringmaster, which was cooked rare as it ought to be. The mac 'n' cheese was sweet and savory. The bearded Lady, or what I tasted of it, was like eating a red velvet pillow. The texture was soft and juicy. The flavor pair between the pork and the raspberry elegantly waltzed in my mouth. The flavors being passed around at the reasonable prices offered did overshadow the prompt service, but it would be hard to think of any service that could distract me from this food other than a foot massage.

What fun! My husband and I sat in the Tilt-a-Whirl seat to set the scene, and loved our cotton candy cocktails (hint: pour the drink over the cotton candy, not the other way around). The sweet potato tater tots were an amazing appetizer, as were the cinnamon wings (beware: HOT!). Entrees were substantial - I couldn't finish my pulled pork sandwich. The decor is charmingly scruffy, and I won't spoil the fun of the menus by describing them. You just need to go - definitely a unique place.
Although there's a carnival theme, the menu would be a little fancy for kids. But the staff is so astonishingly friendly that I bet they could figure something out if you wanted to bring a little one.

Eclectic, funky, fun place. Though I don't eat vegan, I watch cholesterol intake. Nice to have an explicitly vegan menu, though a little more imagination than simply removing the cheese would be nice (e.g., substitute soy cheese for the dairy cheese portobello sandwich. Leaded coffee was good, unleaded was mediocre.

I think they will be great, and will catch on quickly. The food was well prepared and executed. The service was sweet and humble. There were a couple of things I think that could be improved.
1) Lighting: we could not read the menus it was so dark. Even with holding the candle to the paper. Even with using our phones for light. That also means we could not see what we were eating.
2)Wine served in plastic cups...we'll only order beer next time because wine in disposable plastic cups is yucky & not very "green."
3)Could the fritos with the veggie chilli be house made instead of the junkie bag ones? For $11 chilli, I think it might be do-able.
Despite those things (which are fixable), I will happily go back.I can't wait to go for bru

Straw is a fun and casual while still having great ambiance. Our favorite dish was the mac attack - yum! Contortionist (pretzel) was good, but why cut up a full pretzel, and not just bake bite size pieces?? The salad was the least interesting (baby greens, strawberries, beets, and goat cheese - had kind of a weird taste and bland). My husband had the ring master burger served with donuts as bun. Surprisingly delicious but not something you'd want every day!! Fries were awesome. Cotton candy for dessert was good but flavor not too exciting. Would go again for the atmosphere and appetizers.
