Diner Reviews
  • "Food was wonderful and very fresh. Ceasar salad was one of the best I have had in a while. Staff very attentive and considerate. I would highly recommend."

  • "Good food...trout plate was excellent. The service was fast and friendly. It was a very nice restaurant to meet and visit with my friend for dinner."

  • "We had a waiter (Clifton) who had been with the restaurant 3 days but was very knowledgable about the dishes and what he didn't know he found out efficiently. The special sea bass that evening was delightful as was the Tuscan Salmon and the Blackened Redfish."

  • "Love Open Table! Was excited to find a restaurant close to home. I went alone for the adventure to see if my monthly luncheon group would like this place. Had reservations, arrived early. The young lady was slow to seat me, but the owner (I think or manager) came to the rescue. The food was delicious and I will definitely go back to try the Brunch. I liked what I saw of the Brunch Menu."

  • "Have dined here a few times and have never been disappointed. Last Saturday came for Happy Hour which have great appetizers and drinks. Followed by dinner. Dinner was delicious. Love Strata. Their duck is perfect. Will continue to go."

  • "Strata took my reservation very late and I was able to bring a group of clients over that did not speak English. We had a very nice dinner and we will definitely be back often."

  • "Had dinner with my husband and we enjoyed ourselves. The food was good, waiter was nice and polite, and the restaurant overall was really nice."

  • "Our "empty nest" clatch of long-term friends gathered for a lively Happy Hour appetizer-fest. Our waiter was exceptionally attentive, keeping both the expertly prepared & presented food coming and the drinks full with expert timing. Located away from Vintage Park's "food court" (Mia Bella, El Tiempo, Peli Peli, etc.), Strata doesn't benefit from the visibility and thus doesn't get the attention its quality deserves. Our Happy Hour lasted from 5 to 730pm before adjourning to a member's home, and the restaurant wasn't half full when we departed at that prime hour. The food & staff quality deserves a stronger following - a Brazilian Steakhouse soon to open next door may heighten the profile this gem deserves."

  • "Strata recognizes that many people need gluten-free choices and these options are clearly noted on the menu."

  • "We had dinner at Strata on Sunday evening. It was delightful. The pear goat cheese appetizer pizza was delicious and would easily serve 2-4 as an appetizer. The Margartia pizza likewise. Steaks were very good and the shrimp and grits were excellent. We like the idea do the small portion options. Attentive waitstaff with leisurely service."

  • "We went with family for my husbands birthday. All the food was wonderful. The waitstaff was great. There was live jazz music that Friday night and the music was great as well. Couldnt have asked for a better evening."

  • "I selected this restaurant based on Open Table ratings - which are generally reliable - but not this time. There were three of us dining on a Tuesday night. Fortunately, my guest was very pleased with his Cajun fish, but my wife said her stripped bass was over-sauced and small and my NY steak was underdone and tough. The service should have been better too."

  • "I took my fiancée on Valentine's Day, and we both loved it. The three course menu was wonderful. Our food was perfectly prepared. It was pricey, but the ambiance, live jazz music, and quality of the meal made it worth it."

  • "I really wanted to like this restaurant. It's been almost 2 yrs since the last couple times I tried Strata, and I thought I would give them another try hoping they had worked out some issues. Well, the food this time was quite good, but the service was definitely lacking. Our waiter was AWOL most of the evening, the fondue appetizer we ordered was cold (probably from sitting at the pass for so long), our drinks didn't get refilled unless we flagged someone down, and then our check was wrong. The shiner bock fondue was quite good despite being mostly room temp and congealed, my striped bass w/ risotto was excellent. The other waiters seemed really good, and we started to develop waiter envy."

  • "We have dined at Strata many times, whether it is a special occasion or just a night out we have never been disappointed. Great food choices and excellent service."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed Strata. While they did not have the fondue we were looking forward to for an appetizer, the jumbo lump crab cakes were a perfect substitute. We both had seafood dishes. I requested my Salmon Medium-Rare, it came medium, but was not dried out. Service was great, no over-bearing waitstaff or buss-boys. My only complaint is that they continually offered refills on our lemonade, even before the glasses were empty, and then charged $1 per refill. Overall a great dinner and great service."

  • "The entrees were very good but the appetizers and desserts were a big disappointment. Especially for a Valentines menu. Otherwise, nice resturant."

  • "We went on over inflated Valentines Day. The food was OK. Way over priced for the occasion. While I expected inflated prices, I expected a better dinner that's all. I will try again on a regular night."

  • "We had a large group for Sunday Brunch and had to wait on part of the group. They handled that well. However, once everyone was there, the food was VERY slow coming out and my wife's food was cold. Most everyone seemed to enjoy their food. The server was personable and good about bringing coffee to my mom - which is a real plus. We've been several times - both dinner and brunch. I like the idea of the brunch menu, but wish there was more of the dinner menu available at brunch. The alternative is the lunch menu. Basically, as the title implies: good but not great."

  • "Always a treat to go to Strata and enjoy the good food and great ambiance. If they would just add a baked potato to their menu is the only thing that could make it better."

  • "I reserved a table a week in advance for a Saturday night to celebrate my mother's 89th birthday. We arrived a few minutes early and was extremely disappointed when we were shown to our table because it was immediately in front of the entrance to the kitchen and the restrooms, and in just around the corner from the live entertainment in the bar which made it very hard to talk. When I asked if we could be seated at another table, the response from the hostess was that we'd have to sit at the bar and wait for another table to open up. And the estimated time was more than 30 minutes. So, we accepted the table and then proceeded to watch and be bumped by the endless stream of waiters. Hillary, our server, however was superb."

  • "My wife and I were expecting to pay a moderate amount for the food we were going to eat. Instead, got rice and sides and gravy that taste as if they've been prepared out of a box. If I'm going to pay $32 for the Special and $20 for a steak, please have the sides at least taste as if they were made from scratch. Will Not Return."

  • "We love finding good restaurants close to home & Strata is one of those! They have a great selection of entrees to choose from as well as cocktails and wines. We were sat in a back room because the main dining room was full but it turned out well because our server was very friendly and attentive. We were the only occupied table at first but very soon others joined us & it was not so lonely. We haven't had a bad meal yet and we will be back."

  • "I bring out of town friends here; menu is eclectic and yummy. Have tried many things on the menu! I like to support restaurants in my neighborhood, and this one we very much enjoy. If you live in northwest Houston, why drive towards downtown when you've got such great places right at the Vintage?"

  • "Looking for some place that is not a chain. Strata was a wonderful surprise. The staff was attentive to our every need. Josh was entertaining, making the evening fun. The food was delicious and inventive. This is not a traditional steak house, it was better. When i want to take someone some place special, this is where I will go."

  • "Hopefully my experience was a corner case. I chose Strata as an alternate to the area business dinner locations, however no greeter, the bartender was mia, never saw manager come by the table. We waited almost 5 minutes before anyone was behind the bar. I had to seek out someone to seat us. We were put in a back small semi private room but joined by a group of 10 who could have moved a stadium needle, had a tired toddler with them and played movie at the table. I will say that the food is good however it is overpriced and just too many missteps to list here. Very high end restaurant pricing, better experience almost anywhere else in the Vintage area. I cannot recommend this place for a week night business dinner location."

  • "My wife and I invited another couple to dinner and this was their first visit. Strata did not disappoint. The server (Zack) was very good; present when needed/wanted but never intrusive. The wine recommendation was very serviceable and selection included a taste of 2 suggested labels, 1 of which we bought. The meal was wonderful, steaks properly cooked and tender. The strawberry salad is a must try. Then the desserts....very nice but would recommend adding a cheese plate or fruit selection. We will be back and with new converts!"

  • "My wife and I had our 28th Anniversary dinner at Strata's. We had had a previous anniversary dinner there a couple of years ago also. We like the mix of offerings. We started off with the pumpkin ravioli and it was very good. I had the Osso Bucco and it was awesome! Wasn't overly fond of the polenta it came with -- thought it was very bland. Think i would have preferred mashed potatoes or roasted cauliflower with it. My wife had the short ribs and, though they were very tasty, they were not as tender as my pork. My wife had Chocolate Nirvana and it was extremely rich -- she loved it. I had the Creme Brulee and it was a great end to the meal. We highly recommend Strata's."

  • "We dined here on New Year's Eve for the first time. It was a set 3 course menu. I have often found the quality of food in other restaurants to be below par on such occasions, but the food at Strata was excellent. I would say that the overall decor/atmosphere is not the most fantastic. I would definitely go back for the food though!"

  • "Briefly, service was poor to almost non existant on Christmas Eve. I'm sending this again because it looked like the first one didn't send."

  • "My sister (who is vegan) and I went to strata for dinner two nights ago. The ambiance is great - they still had (tasteful) Christmas garland placed around various nooks, and the wall installments were nice. The waiter was very nice, and was patient with our requests to accommodate my sister's vegan diet. The food itself was mediocre. I had the herb salmon, which was fine, but not really worth the price point. Her portobello burger (sans cheese) was pretty disappointing as one of only two vegan items on the menu. The soup (tomato poblano) was fine, and along with the free (excellent) ciabatta bread and olive oil a the table was the highlight of the meal."

  • "Quiet, relaxed atmosphere, perfect for chatting. The service was friendly and attentive without being hovering. My girlfriend had a steak sandwich she loved. Had to have a doggie bag. My shrimp Po Boy was not spectacular but it was good. The culinary highlight for me was the rosemary lemon vinaigrette on my salad. They should bottle it!"

  • "This has to be the worst service I have ever had in a restaurant in a long time. We had reservations for 5 people and when we got there the hostess took us to a table for 4 and said I will squeeze another chair in. So many things wrong from bringing food wrong.. no silverware, drinks taking forever.. water never refilled.. Manager is clueless.. and did not do anything for us but say we are busy and doing our best.."

  • "Made reservations for Christmas Eve and were seated promptly. There was only 1 waitress for several tables in our area and she did her best to try and keep up with orders but we felt we had to wait a long time for drinks and food. The meals were underwhelming. I ordered the lobster surf and turf which was overcooked and not flavorful. My son ordered the filet which was served the same way. My husband ordered blackened snapper and said 1 of the pieces tasted good but the others didn't taste fresh. We noticed 3 or 4 tables around us that were complaining that their orders were wrong or incorrect and 2 tables left before their meals arrived because they were waiting so long. Cannot recommend Strata."

  • "We like to eat dinner out on Xmas Eve. We know from experience most restaurants overbook or they are understaffed...it is always disappointing but we decided if we want to eat out on Xmas Eve things might not be perfect. BUT i requested a high chair becuz we were bringing our 3 year old grandson when i made the reservation. when we arrived we were told we had to wait 30 mins becuz the party in our designated table was late arriving and not finished. i asked hostess for another table. she said they didn't have one. We were seated at a table by the door and it was Cold. we had to ask for our drinks, bread, etc. multiple times. We heard many people complaining about waiting to be seated, service, etc too."

  • "The food is so very good. This was my third dinner at La Strata. Second time for the shrimp and grits, which is an outstanding dish. creamy grits that melt in your mouth. I like the option of a small dish or regular sized dish. Very rarely see that option these days. Spent three hours having dinner and never felt rushed. Definitely recommend it."

  • "I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. On special occasions we like to go to Perry's but this will be our new spot. We agreed that the filets were the best tasting we have had. Which is a lot coming from his VERY picky palate. Also, our waiter was Josh who provided very attentive and efficient customer service. The tab was $100 for 4 beers, a salad, 10oz filet, and 8oz filet with shrimp. The steak was of great quality and definitely worth the money"
