On my second visit to this restaurant for lunch, We enjoyed even a greater time than the first! The ambience is warming on a cold day and the service was outstanding! The staff all made it their business to be there for anything we needed -- without any hovering. The food was all delicious as well -- and great wine choices! Delighted and looking forward to my next lunch at The Strand Bistro!

I took a group fro lunch and it was perfect. The prix Fixe was actually a great deal. A burger and kale salad was a pretty good deal. I had fun. The noise level was not high and not low, perfect for groups and colleagues. The only short coming was that the prix Fixe menu was very short...but then again, its prix fixe.

I just moved to New York and our friends were here for New Year Eve and raved about the food so we thought we would give it a try. They were right, The Strand Bistro food was absolutely excellent! Thumbs up on both their steak and fish. The food was delicious and perfectly done with great flavor. Service was good not great. Definitely will be back.

  • Very disappointing NYE Dinner

We booked this place for our NYE dinner after visiting their website and reading (unbalanced) reviews. The place is a very regular place with no great difference from any other hotel place. The service is very poor and nothing really special (they even gave us an incorrect bill). The food? I have never seen such poor combinations of tastes and overall low quality meat and fish selection given the prices they charged. The steak was so hard to cut that it was almost impossible to eat (I heard very similar comments from our table neighbors). Absolutely not recommended for any special occasion and would only go for a very regular lunch. Terrible value for money overall, probably the worst thing I Have spent my money on in my entire foodie life.

Fantastic bar and ambiance. Not a huge menu but everything was very tasty. We had three adults and three kids in our dinner group. The waitstaff was very accommodating and friendly. All of our dishes were delicious. It was late, so the chef insisted we try three of the desserts with his compliments. Very good!!!

Me and a friend both had a two-course dinner, and sadly the only great thing about this place was the food itself. The restaurant/bar is not impressionable as shown on photos you'll find online. It was a regular hotel bar and restaurant seatings inside, located in the lobby with not much else to it. Abstract arts hung all around a small space (and that is pretty much the deco). Our server was friendly and helpful, but nothing special. The lady who showed us the table was not so friendly or helpful, which ruined the first impression of the restaurant. Overall I was disappointed, great for a regular dinner - NOT for special occasions.

The Organic Chicken and the Glazed Atlantic Salmon were really goodamazing and really tasty. The service was nice and helpful. Unfortunately, the second course was served to us whereas we had not finish our first course yet. This is the only bad thing about our dinner at the Strand Bistro. It was not too expensive. We really enjoyed our dinning here and it will be a pleasure to come here again.

I used to really enjoy their prix fixe lunch, but now the price has gone up and the choices have become fewer. Service is quite poor, wait times for salads and starters to come out are long, sandwiches are fine, but nothing special for the new $23 price. Wait staff had to be asked repeatedly for small things like ketchup and then we were charged for additional soft drinks, even though that has never been the policy in the past. (The charges were removed when I refused to pay them.) In short, I used to find this was a good go-to please for a client lunch or for something nicer than a Korean salad bar, but now it's just overpriced and not worth the cost. Too bad!

I had dined at the Strand Bistro last year but this time the food was exceptional. The menu is different and the food is dynamite. The tuna tartare appetizer looked like a piece of art work when it came to the table and it tasted even better than it looked. The slaw dog sliders were also delicious. The main courses did not disappoint. The pork tenderloin and the hanger steak were both cooked to perfection. The restaurant is warm and cozy. Overall a great meal. Will definitely not wait a year to come back.

We had eaten here a year prior and enjoyed it so brought friends when in town again this year. Once again the ambience and food were excellent but the service was disappointing. The waiter seemed well intentioned but was inept. He was initially rushing us (perhaps he thought he was being attentive, but we were obviously talking and not looking at the menus). One in our group had ordered a salad, but it actually came after his entree so was sent back. The waiter then offered dessert menus from which we ordered but it took a long time for it to come and then even longer for us to get the check. The waiter needs to learn to better read the customer and situation and go with their flow.

Food was good but our waiter was almost non-existent. Waited for 30 minutes for a glass of water but waiter did not come, so I took a pitcher of water from a nearby table and pour some myself. Our desserts came but were not given any spoons or forks, we have to ask twice to get them. We waited for almost 45 minutes before they clear off our dessert plates. We have to ask three times for our bill. The bill comes up finally and it pains me to see that we should pay minimum USD 38 for tip. At the end we left $ 25 only but find it still a bit high for the sort of service we were provided!

Left nothing to be thankful for on Thanksgiving. Prefix was more than the most expensive ala carte options - that should have told me something about the thoughtfulness. Salad course was fine - nothing spectacular. The main event on Thanksgiving, turkey, was inedible. Yes, inedible! Remember the scene in Christmas Vacation where the turkey exploded into turkey jerky? Oh and where was the seasoning on the remainder? And who uses gravy as a plate decoration? The pork was ordered, and it was good just a bit under-seasoned. The desert was plated at least 12 hours prior. Toasted marshmallow was dried fluff cement. And that cheesecake is not worthy enough to be served in NYC. They tried to overcharge on top of this! Sadly Unfortunate.

This was one of the most incredible dining experiences we've ever had. I'm honestly not sure what the best part of the night was - the decor was beautiful and made us want to live in the dining room; the food was impeccable from start to finish - beautiful, bold flavors, incredibly fresh and excellent portions; the drinks were perfect - prosecco with a touch of St. Germaine, a seasonal Pumpkin Manhattan cocktail, and a fantastic bourbon list; and finally the service was flawless. We were really wow'ed by the staff, we even got a visit from the chef to make sure we were enjoying our meal. An overall incredible experience and we'll be back very, very soon.

The Strand Bistro has a great atmosphere, quiet rooms with beautiful decor. Trust the photos online...it IS that pretty. It even has a fireplace! The"Sauteed Peppercorn Crusted Hanger Steak in a Brandy Cream Sauce" was delicious but the "Grilled Cocoa Rubbed Pork Tenderloin with Sweet Potato Puree" was the stand-out favorite of the evening. This is a lovely bistro at the Strand Hotel in Manhattan. The menu is limited but the choices were enough for my husband and I. I always look for choices that are organic or vegetarian and there was organic chicken on the menu and scallops. There were three scallops (which is fine for me) in a wonderful sauce. My husband had the chicken (which said 1/2 a chicken) but the portion was very small. We had Caesar salads which were great and a super wonderful chocolate desert with ice cream. I loved the coffee and found out it was made in the Nespresso...yummy! Service was good but aloof.

Very good food, decent service (a bit slow), and nice setting/decor. The music was a tad annoying. A great choice for something nice and grown up, where you can hear each other, and the food is good. Head upstairs afterward for the rooftop bar which has a stunning view of the Empire State Bldg. I would come back for sure. The restaurant needs to have a few vegan/vegetarian options.

Entertaining business clients for dinner. Chose The Strand because of rooftop bar however it was closed due to a private party. I love the food at the Strand Bistro. The waitstaff is attentive and prompt. But the kitchen — that's another story. The past few times I've eaten there, the food took way too long to come from the kitchen, leaving our waiter to apologize repeatedly for something he had no control over. It's too bad. Everything else is spot-on.

We were looking for a place to have a quick late night dinner and decided to try the Strand Bistro since it was close to the Fairfield Inn where we were staying and it had got good reviews on Opentable. Well, the reviews were right on. The menu was not large, but it had just what we were all looking for. The cauliflower soup was fantastic. And my steak strips were a perfect medium rare. My wife loved her sweat potato fries and bowl of mac and cheese (her favorite). The portion sizes were just right for a late night bite and our server made the evening enjoyable. The Strand Bistro was the perfect ending of a long day of sightseeing. We would definitely go back.

We were meeting a potential client for a business lunch meeting. We informed the hostess of the person's name, and confirmed the name the reservation was under. After half an hour, I called the client to see if they were still joining us, and couldn't reach them. I walked to the hostess station to find the client had been sitting there waiting for us the entire time! She had given the hostess her name and our reservation name, but was told we were not there yet. Sadly, the service was extremely slow, but the food was delicious. Still not good enough to outweigh a 2.5 hr lunch on a weekday in Manhattan!

I selected the Strand Bistro for breakfast in part for its proximity to Penn Station and in part because the online breakfast menu looked fabulous; lots of choices with interesting ingredients and many items I thought would appeal to the varied preferences of our group. Unfortunately, the actual menu was much more limited and the food, while good, was not as outstanding as I had hoped. The omelets were disappointingly bland and the choice was very limited. In addition, the interesting yogurt/granola parfait in the online menu was not listed on the menu we were given. The setting is lovely and the noise level was excellent (that is, pretty quiet). The service was also good, though a little hovering.

I've been to The Strand a few times and have stayed at the hotel earlier in the year, it's great. The food is always good, especially the soups and free range chicken. When you're finished with dinner, don't forget to head upstairs for a drink on the rooftop at "The Top of the Stand" the best view of the Empire State Building in the entire city. If you street park, you will almost always find a parking spot right out front. Enjoy!

I live nearby and went for a casual dinner on a Wednesday. It was probably the worst service I have had in NYC. I don't know if it was our waitress or across the board for this restaurant, but I doubt I would go back. Maybe the expectations are lower for a hotel restaurant but I do not think that is an excuse. The food and ambience made up for some of the poor service, but if you have to wait 45 minutes between courses, it does not matter how good the food is.
