When we arrived for dinner, we were asked to sit near the bar in a comfortable library-like alcove as there was filming of Real Housewives of New York going on in the restaurant which would delay our seating. After a little while we decided to eat there. They comped us desert and a moscato at the end of the meal and were always apologetic and helpful (as they should have been). We started with zucchini fritters and lobster dumplings which were excellent. Then we had the Hunts Point All'Acqua Pazza, a delicious fruit de mers dish and, the reason we came, a roasted chicken with peaches and hazlenuts which turned out to be a lovely combination. This is a hotel in the fashion district and the fashionable decor shows it. We left fully satisfied.

Our group of 5 family members celebrated a birthday in mid-October 17. We were truly impressed by the quality of service: patient, knowledgeable wait staff who explained the dishes and wines; quiet, effortless flow of dishes and wine, all done in a relaxed atmosphere. The quality of the food was excellent: particularly the shrimp/lobster dumplings, roasted chicken, and the fish. We shared desserts. Overall a truly special experience marked by the staff, the atmosphere, and the quality of the food. The chef came over afterwards to ask how we enjoyed dinner-a simple touch, but it helped polish a wonderful evening.

The food in this hotel restaurant was delicious - especially the lobster dumplings and the venison chops. It was our first evening in New York and the quality of the dishes was above expectation. We would visit this restaurant again.

All the great reviews do this place justice. The chef came to our table personally to ask if we had questions about the menu. The lobster dumplings and the cavatelli were exquisite, and tasted even better in this beautiful, warm environment. Will definitely go back.

Excellent food, minimal wait, makes you almost forget you are in a hotel lobby. All the food is local and sustainable, however, the menu was not the easiest to understand (our waitress even said everyone always has questions) and the prices were astronomical. I definitely enjoyed my experience, but for the location, dress code and atmosphere, I would not pay that much again.

I tried moving my reservation from 7/22 to 7/31 but could not figure out how to do so on your site, so I just called the restaurant. I was not allowed to make a reservation on OpenTable, after using it extensively for business, when this happened in the past. I value the OpenTable service but not when you make it so difficult to change a reservation and then ban someone if that information does not get relayed to you. David Teitler

Inviting space and excellent food, but disorganized wait-staff. Took a long time to get drinks, bread (had to ask several times), etc. and the restaurant was empty. Asked for pepper and was brought ground pepper, not a mill. Complained about lack of air-conditioning and waitress said it was because front windows were open and she was hot, too. No attempt to apologize or fix the situation!

We were staying at a nearby hotel and were somewhat skeptical about eating here, because usually restaurants in hotels are way overpriced. We were very impressed with the menu and prices, plus everything we ordered was delicious and perfectly prepared. I had a made to order omelette and my daughter had the lemon-ricotta pancakes, which were outstanding. Two in our party had the oatmeal, and it was really inspired, with candied nuts on top and strawberries. We plan to return!

It was our anniversary and my job was to find a quiet bar/restaurant with style and good food near Madison Square Garden before attending a concert there at 8. The Strand was the only place that looked promising in online reviews, which left me with trepidation (unfounded as it turned out). We were greeted by a well-stocked bar and stylish (large modern boutique hotel) decoration of the restaurant, which consists of two large rooms. The waiter was excellent - always around, never intrusive, knowledgeable. We had three different cocktails, all chosen after deliberations with the waiter and all with a twist. Our vegetarian food was fancy but not pretentious. The waiter's desert recommendation was spot-on. This picky reviewer was very pleased.

The location and ambience are great but the service was to be desired. Almost felt as if coming at 2 PM for lunch did not work with the waiter schedule. Food was okay. Ceasar salad was skimpy and $7 added 3 shrimp. Also wine by the glass was too expensive - lowest was $12.00 per glass.

Seeing as this was a restaurant within the Strand hotel the crowd was quite diverse. There were a lot of businessmen in suits but also casual tourists and families. although the front of the restaurant seemed more of a business hang out in front of the bar dining area seemed more intimate yet still casual with the banquet seating, warm lighting, bookcases, and fireplace. The food was great, no complaints there. Not plain Jane but also not too frilly. I enjoyed my dining experience though I wish there were more people on a Friday night.

Chose this place because it was highly rated for restaurants near The Garden. Very true. Nice room, menu with choice but not too much of it,. My chicken was simple and v ery well cooked - with grits! - and my friends' salmon, burger, steak and pork tenderloin all got thumbs up. Waiter was sweet if a little flaky. We ate on the early side so there was not much of a bar scene, and that is good because there is no separation between bar and dining tables. The mango sorbet was tasteless but the other desserts were very good. We all agreed we would go back again.

Last night I had a great dining experience at The Strand Bistro. We were eating out early with our kids and the wait staff and chef were so accommodating. The kale salad and chicken soup were both yummy appetizers. The kids polished off their mac and cheese and left no trace of their burger with sweet potato fries . I would strongly recommend the salmon with quinoa entree, as it was perfectly cooked with a delicious apple glaze. The warm chocolate cake was the perfect ending to our meal. Looking forward to dining their again soon.

This is the second time I dined at the Strand Bistro and it was fantastic. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. The kale salad with honey-dijon mustard vinaigrette was probably the best kale salad I have had in a long time. The dressing should be bottled it is so good. The two entrees we had were just wonderful. The salmon was nicely cooked with great flavor, loved the mustard seed caviar. The special citrus-crusted tuna was excellent as well. The warm chocolate cake was a perfect ending to the meal. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. We really enjoyed the live music.

In fairness, we ate here the Monday before the Super Bowl so there is a chance this wasn't a typical night - however there weren't many people there so I assume it was. Food was average, looked better than it was but really no complaints, it was fine. The service was comically slow - sat down a little before 6 and the time on the check was almost 7:45 when it finally came. Bottom line, I had higher hopes.
