We have been to Straits several
times now and each time has been great. The varied Southeast Asia menu is fantastic and everything we have tried is excellent. I recommend sharing family style in order to enjoy more of the varied flavors. Some of our favorites are the chicken sate, eggplant, basil chicken, and spicy prawns. They also have Singapore favorites like Chili Crab and Black Pepper Lobster. Service is excellent too, as if you are in Southeast Asia."

Menu was too complicated with
regard to "unique" food combinations. Tried to be too fancy. I like fusion food, but honestly couldn't get an idea from the menu what I might actually be served. Suggestion: take a photo of each entre like they do in Asian countries so that we know what we're getting when we order!!!"

Visited Straits for brother's
birthday dinner and it was GREAT! The appetizer sampler was AWESOME! Only complaint was that the veggie portion of appetizer was touching the meat, so my sister who is a vegetarian was completely turned off and didn't eat the veggie samososa, which of course was AMAZING. There are reviews that praise the cocktails, but my martini was just ok. The COCUNUT RICE was EVERYTHING! We had the seafood risotto, salt and pepper chicken, and veggie fried rice. All was wonderful and will be back soon. Oh yeah... some reviews said servers were snoody, but the guy we had was very patient and kind even though we took FOREVER to order."

I went in the resteraunt not
really knowing to much about the food. The food was great and the server was very knowledgeble and helpful. He recommended the dishes to try based on our likes. Went in for Valentines and everything went well and in a timely fashion."

Really good dining experience.
Would recommend to my friends."

Came here for lunch with work. Had
booked a table, which turned out it was no reason for - the restaurant was almost empty. After our lunch it's very clear why this restaurant has so few guests compared to the other City Centre restaurants. Firstly, several they didn't have several dishes on the menu. Our waiter apologized by "we didn't have them yesterday either" which just confirmed the poor logistics. Secondly, 10 min after we've ordered the food, the waiter came back to confirm the order - it was obvious that he'd forgotten one of my co-workers order. When the food came, only three out of four got our dishes. Lastly, it took us close to 30 min to pay - in an empty restaurant! Will never come back."

Food was delicious, but we were
given a table close to the bar, and music was so loud it was really hard to have a conversation."
Dined on 2/15/2014
Upon night in question. The waited
who wait on me and my wife was very rude and unknowable of what he was doing. Not attentive to our needs."
Dined on 2/14/2014
I think this is a great place for
having drinks, but not for dinning. It is to loud to have a conversation. The food is ok"

It was our first time here and got
a free appetizer from the restaurant. Food was good with excellent service."

some friends recommended Straits,
and it was great. Great food and service."

Food was great, service a bit lax
- but tolerable."

My friends and I came to Straits
for brunch as we were really missing Singapore and all the fantastic food we enjoyed overseas. This restaurant does not disappoint. The curry bowls are delicious, as are many of the small plates. Our group order quite a few different things and every dish was great! I was a little sad to notice that the restaurant was quite empty compared to Ruggles and Yardhouse but I hope others will be willing to try this place."

Music was on point for a young
crowd. The ambiance was excellent. I love this place."
Dined on 1/24/2014
Very average which is not what you
expect for a restaurant in this area"
Dined on 1/22/2014
I'm such a fan of Asian fusion
type restaurants and this one is top notch. Broad menu with plenty of choices for all tastes. I was especially impressed with the number of seafood dishes included crab and lobster. I had the jalapeño seafood curry which was outstanding. A bit noisy/energetic on weekends and good for people watching. If dining with kids, come early. We will be back!"

Server was new and thus drink
order was tough for her, 7 cocktails and food did not come out correctly. BUt she was nice and fixed everything. Menu seems interesting enough for a second try."

We had a great time for my
boyfriends birthday dinner"

I love this place. It has a swanky
modern international decor that should be appealing to plenty of young hip crowd. The bar was up front with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant portion also had plenty of seating. The atmosphere was lively with music and light chatter. The crowd was various age, races/ethnicities, and compositions. I loved this aspect. The food was very good pan Asian cuisine that was innovative. The foo d was both delicious, and the portionsere large. My only criticism would be the white white sangria...fora restaurant trying to have international flair it was very weak. Real sangria has a bit of liquor in it. They should consider using pineapple infused rum or vodka to spice up the "cocktail ".."

My wife is Singaporean and we just
moved to Houston from Singapore. We had low expectations for Straits Restaurant, but were pleasantly surprised. The location is good, however parking was a bit challenging so make sure to leave plenty of time for that. One waiter was very diligent. He paid attention to us and said to one table as soon as we set our menus down. The food we had was a decent representation of Singapore. We had a bottle of the German Riesling (excellent). The black pepper crab used a more liquid pepper sauce like found at a lot of hawker centers. We prefer the dry pepper coating style so we'll be trying chili crab next time. The popiah was not quite the same, but it tasted good and fresh. The lemongrass steak was delicious."

We have been to straits multiple
times before. We took 4 visiting family members and the place was really disappointing. I had to return my fish as it was hard as a rock (I have ordered that many time). We also ordered 2 dishes as side, the garlic noodles and the eggplant. They never made it to the table. We were finished with dinner and finally asked our waitress, she had no idea. The manager did visit our table and asked what we wanted for dessert. We order 3 and only comped 2. I don't think I'll be back."

If you want a small taste of what
some if tag everyday foods of Singapore are like this is the place. Low end food made to a high end flare"

Had a business lunch there last
week. Great appetizers and entree's. Slightly pricey if you are out for something quick and easy but for a longer lunch with friends or business this is a great choice. Menu is imaginative and very well executed. Service first rate. It wasn't busy at all when I was there but it should be compared to its noisy neighbors. Only slight criticism was slightly loud funky fusion stuff playing but that's a very small negative."
Dined on 10/31/2013
The waiter we had the last time
was very rude. He spilled 2 drinks on my husband, and then barely apologized. Then we had to even wipe down our table on our own. The waiter told us he would comp the drinks since they were spilled. When the bill came, we had been double charged for the spilled drinks, and only one was voided. The waiter was trying to "comp us" the drinks that had been spilled. Earlier this year, also had an experience at Straits where there were a few drinks on the bill that we hadn't ordered. When the waiter noticed that we were actually checking the bill, he came over and said there was a mistake on the bill before we even said anything. Pretty shady! Just recommend checking your bill - especially when in a bigger group."

The food was fabulous, our waiter
was extremely attentive for our friend's special birthday dinner. However, special food needs need to be adhere to when advise prior and to the waiter at time of seating."
Dined on 10/31/2013
Food did not make the grade. Never
zinged my pallet. Just ok. Too bad, I expected more. Our waiter gave us good service until the end when it took forever to get the credit card back. Turns out there was a problem. Someone had charged our dinner on someone else's card and vice versa. They had to back everything out and recharge everything. No one bothered to come to us right away and tell us there was a problem. I was embarrassed that I had suggested this restaurant to my friend."
Dined on 10/31/2013
We remained at our table from
7-11. Service was consistent n friendly. Food was fun n the drinks were potent. Only complaint was my tenderloin was like jerky. (I assume bc I delayed them serving it while I tended my baby.). Other appetizers n dishes were fab. If I weren't restricted by budget bc I'm in town for a charity I'd have gotten their Singapore lobster (which I had last time) a MUST TRY!"

Food and ambience were fabulous!
Straits has definitely become one of our favorite restaurants and we will be back again."

My very all-time favorite is the
chicken lollipops. However, it's really nice to take someone to a restaurant and be confident that anything they choose from the menu will be a hit."
Dined on 10/10/2013
I was thoroughly disappointed in
my lunch at Straits. The "curry bowl" for $12 was such a paltry portion that it was served in a soup bowl!!! I asked how they considered this an entree and the waitress was so dingy and inexperienced that she just said "oh that's a single serving" - and never offered to mitigate my discontent. Won't be back. A place is only as good as their staff and their ability to please customers."

It's nice to sit outside and not
have traffic whizzing by (my experience with eating outside always involves lots of traffic because the area is on a major road). Great food; the small plates make for a great dinner and there is plenty to eat."
Dined on 9/22/2013
Overall, I really liked and
enjoyed this restaurant a lot. The food was excellent & very tasty. As others suggested, the Roti Prata was great! The Singaporean Hokkien Noodles were awesome as well. I really liked the fusion dynamic of this restaurant. All of the dishes had an excellent combination of many flavors from many different cooking styles/cultures. Each influence was very distinct. It felt like a trip around the world. The ambiance and atmosphere was also great as well. My only complaint would be about our server. Our server was nice, polite, fairly attentive & gave us great recommendations when we asked. However, for some reason or another, when we asked to split the check, that seemed to be a very difficult task for her."

Had the pleasure of eating here
several times. Straits has the best Indian / Asian fusion food I've ever had."
Dined on 9/15/2013
Went with kids, but not a normal
oil place. The chef was awesome and made a dish that was off the menu. The kung pao shrimp and calamari was so good - sweet and tangy. I had the wide noodle with shrimp and sausage - also delicious. The chicken lollipops could be eaten as a meal - so good. It was pretty loud, so to me, not super romantic. My peeve is when they don't keep my water filled, and they did not, so that's why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 for service. Enjoy!"

I went with a party of 8 and we
were seated in a private area. We had a blast and the food was wonderful. Very exotic. We decided to share all our plates. That made it more fun. The service unfortunately was slow, but friendly."

Terrific food. Too loud to carry
on a conversation"

Straits, like Singapore itself is
a vibrant blend of cultures, food, and tastes. I went there for lunch and would love to go back at dinner. The food was excellent and my guest partook in the prix fixe menu which they enjoyed. Portion sizes were just right with the courses and the staff was friendly. Think of this place as white linen dining without the white linens and pretentious ness. Definitely a spot I'd add to my rotation."
Dined on 6/19/2013
The food was great, the staff was
accommodating. Although the reservation was only for 6 people, we had over 10 show up. The staff kindly arranged for our seating unto a larger table. The samosas were delicious. The Indian Street Noodles were spicy and amazing!!"
Dined on 7/29/2013
I was disappointed with my recent
experience. The bread was chewy. The curry had no breast (white meat) It was all dark meat which had a slimy taste. The chicken satay were dry and over cooked. Shrimp main course only had 5 smallish shrimp. Not an overall good experience for the price, and I restaurant I used to love. Won't be rushing back anytime soon."
