Straits Restaurant - Santana RowDelicious food and great atmosphereI planned my friends surprise birthday here and all of the staff were great. Huhn?Food was good - not the usual oriental taste at all, but less "good" than I have experienced at Straits in the past. The chicken basil that I had was not the best quality chicken frankly. The chicken satay appetizer was surprisingly so-so too.
Mostly, we were very taken aback by the fact that they did not have any coffee ... "we are out of coffee". They should have made an effort to get some from the shop literally 20 feet away for the one person in the group who wanted some!
Service was very good to excellent and the Santana Row ambience is excellent as always - we sat "outside" since it was a nice day. For a Friday lunch, we were a bit surprised that the restaurant was pretty empty.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Flavors, Active SpotFood was fantastic. Had a great outdoor table where there was noise, but it was quiet enough for 4 people to talk. Unique, tasty cocktails. Service was slow, but adequate. Parking was horrific. We would love to visit Straits again, but it took us 25 minutes to find a parking spot. I've been going there for years and its always a safe choice as they never disappoint. If you love lounges with upbeat background music then you'll have a good time here. I am a regular to this place so I advised getting the small plates so that they can taste most of the food offered. THEY LOVED IT &we devoured every food brought faster than they can set in on the table. The taste varied from item to item and every plate provided an awesome experience. Though the restaurant was packed that night, the service was fast and quick. It was easy to find our server so we can have either some more water, refill of drinks, or whatever we needed. Every dish has distinct and delicious flavor. In the evening, it can be too loud inside with the bar music but great atmosphere. We sat outside at a not so comfortable table with forgetful service but enjoyed the night life on Santana Row. The food and service both great. This is one of our fave hang-out places in Santana Row.
I might just note that both our cocktail drinks: Mint Citrus Vodka and the Pomegranate Lemon Drop were extremely SWEET! We had to request for extra cubes to tone it down.
