Singapore for almost 200 years has been at the crossroads of Southeast Asia, where many cultures and nationalities live, work and more importantly, eat together. Singapore's cuisines logically reflect this cultural diversity. The four major culinary cultures -- Malaysian/Indonesian, Chinese, Indian and Nonya -- are in fact a blend of each other, creating a new cuisine that is unique and more complex in flavors and fragrances. Straits offers a menu that features the complexity of all these Singaporean cuisines in chef Chris Yeo's unique interpretation. This beautiful Santana Row location opened in January 2003.Continued

  • "Enjoyed the exotic flavors offered at this restaurant. Liked the concept of "family style" dining so could we sample all the dishes that were served. The seafood platter was outstanding with the best lobster, crab, sashimi, prawns and oysters. Best garlic noodles we've had. Dessert was the best - upside down apple cake and lava cake. Service was attentive. Will be back soon to explore other menu items we were not able to order."

Beautiful small plates to share - succulent mussels and crispy corn croquettes with a tangy chili sauce....Exceptional entrees - perfectly seared salmon with fresh, vibrant salsa and the crispiest skin, silky and light coconut fried rice jeweled with perfectly pink, plump shrimp - I wish I could have eaten more from this exquisitely complex menu... The staff was charismatic, professional and attentive - Overall, truly a wonderful culinary experience, one I will definitely seek to repeat!"

  • "The food is very good & creative & will go back for the food. As for dessert, the molten chocolate cake & ice cream was delicious. The lavender creme brulee was a disappointment with the brulee cold with a heated carmelized top. I went there for dinner & found the lighting too dim; hence, hard to read the menu & see what we were eating. As the night went on the light dimmed even more. Even though it was 6:30 pm the noise level was loud and made it very hard to talk to the person who sat just a few feet from me. At 8:30 pm the air condition turned on and we had to put our jacket on & screamed at the people at our table so we can hear each other. Finally we left to a cafe to get coffee to warm up & have a normal level conversation."

  • "All I can say is that I'm still dreaming of the Tuna Tower that I had for my appetizer. The food was fantastic, the service was good, and the enrivornment was very fun, lively. If I had to give one negative comment it would be that the 3 of us did not get served at the same time for either our appetizer or main course. In fact, one got her main course a good 10 to 15 minutes after the rest of us got served. To me that is unacceptable for a restaurant of this level."

  • "The food when we went for lunch was fine but the service was so off I really won't go back unless forced. We ordered some dishes that had sauce and were delivered forks for serving it. We had iced tea with no ice. We had to ask twice just to get ice. It was other small things like that which affected the flow of our meal enough that it's not worth putitng up with. Sorry."

Friendly and attentive service and a Bar that was busy, even on a Monday night. Definitely for those who want to enjoy a fun and busy environment; maybe not ideal for quiet, romantic conversations... All in all a solid 4 star!"

Wouldn't go on a Saturday night if you are looking for a intimate dinning experience. My girlfriends and I liked the spot and overall had a nice time."

  • "Straits continues to serve a variety of Asian dishes. Lots of small plates and entrée plates to choose from, veg and non-veg. We had the roti prada, ribs, samosa, corn croquettes and garlic noodles. I had a mango margarita with chili power with my meal. My only complaint is with the coffee, they only have coffee, no espresso drinks. Fortunately at the Santana Row Cocola Bakery is right next door, so I recommend have your dessert and coffee there."

  • "I've been to straits before, but been hesitant on going back bc the first time I was there, the people were so stuck up, I didn't want to be around it. Gave it another chance, our server was slow. It took her almost 10 mins to come greet us and take our drinks, another waiter with tables next to ours, ended up greeting us and taking our drink orders. Then she gave us the wrong info on an item on the menu. We had people from out of town and this was so embarrassing, especially when we talked about how great Santana Row was, especially its restaurants. TOTAL FAIL"

  • "Had a 7:15 reservation for 7, but didn't get a table until about an hour fifteen minutes later. They had to wait for 2 parties near each other to leave to accommodate the seven of us. So I wouldn't recommend this place for a group larger than 4. Our food didn't come out together, so most were cold by the time the last entree came out. On the plus side, what I ordered was quite good -- butter chicken with coconut rice."

  • "Went for Saturday Lunch. They had a "brunch" menu but we chose to order off their ala-carte menu. Had gone there 12/30 for dinner. Food was very good and the shrimp dish we had was especially outstanding. Service was very good when we went for dinner but this time the waitress was quite un-attentive. They seemed to want to congregate among themselves and therefore we had to signal them several times for clean plates, silverware, boxes, check, etc."

  • "The food was excellent; we had the tastiest and unforgettable Roti bread, the freshest seafood platter - it was so good we ordered a dozen raw oysters to go along with it. We also had the ribs (Strait's ribs?) - they were meaty and large boned, really succulent. We have been to Straits many times but I think this New Year's eve dinner was the best we've had. 5 stars for the meal; 5 stars for the ambience; and 4 stars for the service - I would have like to see my primary waiter a little more often and be more attentive. Great location to take someone special for dinner."

  • "We ordered the Beef Carpaccio. I cannot eat beef but I liked the Frisee salad sprinkled on top. I asked if a side salad consisting of just Frisee and dressing can be prepared without the beef and that I be charged for the price of a "side salad'. The waiter assured me that it would be possible. I noticed we were charged twice for the carpaccio. Waiter's explanation was manager would not allow it and that I would be charged the full price. I was not informed of this decision nor was I made aware that I would be charged the full price of the dish. The waiter was blatant, flippant and inattentive. My entire party did not appreciate this. I was charged $22 for a side salad. High prices, bad attitude from waiter and hostess. Bad experience."

  • "We went with kids for a Family dinner on our anniversary, since kids are older than 16. We had to wait inspire of Reservations, but the manager was really polite and apologized for the wait, which helped. Service was excellent and food was great, even though our first time in a Singapore Restaurant The noise level is really loud for a restaurant, it was more like at a bar level. I would definitely go here again, and recommend to my friends."

  • "Our server was Obidaya...so helpful and cheerful. We asked for his recommendations and went with lychee martinis, hibiscus lemon drops, a tuna tartare/ceviche-type plate, roti and samosas. All were delicious and wonderful to nosh as we talked the evening away. We never felt rushed and felt encouraged to just hang out and linger as long as we wanted. We capped it off with the lava cake and their huge cups of steaming coffee. The bar music was booming for being half empty and could have been turned down a bit, but I suppose it added to the hip atmosphere. Definitely a place to revisit."
