Storie Street GrilleThe Blowing Rock Dining ExperienceWe eat at SS continuously and are never disappointed. Recently we took a couple who had not been to SS "in years." We told them all the wonderful dishes that are now available, and they selected Pasta Inferno and trout. They LOVED both! I ate Bernie's Meatloaf, and my husband had the salmon. Both were as delicious as always. Salads are always delicious and fresh and the wine selection is varied in both price and taste. Our server, Will, is among the best in the High Country. He is knowledgeable about the food and wine, and he makes everyone feel like he is glad they chose to dine at SS. He made our guests feel like they were important to him and won their admiration with his helpful, pleasant service. We arrived a little after 5pm on a Thursday and the place was pretty quiet, but we liked it that way. Our waiter was very attentive and we loved our food - flatbread with brie, fried asparagus, house salad with chicken and Waldorf salad with chicken. I wish I could have eaten more, but I was full after the amazing key lime pie! The bread pudding was also excellent. Service was friendly and the staff knew both the menu and wine list very well. They even gave us a great table for our Anniversary. We had a little longer wait for the main course to arrive but the Wait staff and manager were more than apologetic and made it right. The food was worth the wait and prices are good for the large portions you receive. It was still off season in Blowing Rock and it was Monday night, so the restaurant was very quiet. I had mentioned when I made the reservation that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Not only were we warmly greeted and seated by the fireplace, but were also given a free bottle of house wine (a very acceptable merlot). Our server was terrific. There is such a variety of menu items that all diners find something to suit their tastes. We took friends for lunch on Saturday, and everything from the Reuben to the fabulous beef stew was delicious. Our waiter, Will, is one of the best in the High Country. His personal, friendly service always makes a visit to SS a pleasure. We suggest making reservations in the fall and summer. SS is located in the heart of Blowing Rock and is a great way to enjoy the best of the village. You will see many local residents as well as visitors gather for lunch and dinner. That is what we order on every visit. It's just too good to pass up for another dish.
