Diner Reviews
  • "Stoney River is our Go To Place for special occasions. Food is always right on spot. The menu has changed up a bit for the better, still leaving our favorites. Always enjoy our experience here for over 10 years. "

  • "I liked being able to make reservations on line. The host staff were immediately able to honor our request for a different table. The restaurant noise level was higher than "energetic"' it was loud which is why we requested to be reseated. Our server, Kristin, was very solicitous but not to the point of being annoying. She provided an enjoyable experience. "

  • "We have been dining at Stoney River since it opened in Deer Park. We've seen a lot of changes over the years. From management to servers to the menu offerings. We know Stoney River is now owned by J. Alexanders, but we HIGHLY recommend you leave Stoney River alone. Stoney River is of a higher standard than J. Alexanders and we believe you shouldn't mess what a good thing. We were happily suprised to see the caprese salad is back on the menu the "old way." Served with juicy, red tomatoes, fresh sliced mozzerella cheese and fresh homemade crispy onion strings. We would like to see the lamb chops back on the menu. My favorite steak is the coffee cured filet. It used to come with a vege and potato. Not anymore. "

  • "Dinner for 4 in a big booth. outstanding food & service from Nicole & Ryan! the right amount of attention & really delicious filet, pecan crusted trout, salmon, whiskey shrimp and wines! "

  • "We love dining here! Food is always fantastic. The Whiskey Shrimp is a must have! Save the sauce to dip your steak in, you just might have to ask for side cup! "

  • "This was one of several dinners we've enjoyed at this restaurant. It's our favorite steak house within a decent driving range. Afterwards, two of us ordered a cup of coffee and a Baileys (neat) on the side. The Baileys was carefully measured at the bar so it did not exceed the allotted amount. I wasn't so surprised at the $3/cup for the coffee, but was shocked they charged me $10.50/shot of Baileys. My Glenfiddich before dinner was $12, but that's a good scotch! At Coopers Hawk, however, you'll pay that for a Glenfiddich, but they pour doubles! If we return to Stoney River, we will have cocktails either at home before or elsewhere after. $10.50 for a shot of Baileys? That put a damper on the great time we had."

  • "Food and service are always excellent. We have been dining here for years. We do both birthdays and anniversary. Disappointed that we no longer receive the coupons we always used. The $20 is a big factor in how often we done at Stoney River"

  • "We always love coming to Stoney River for our anniversary. My daughter gives us gift certificates and we save them to use then. The food is always good and the atmosphere is very nice. When you can get the fireplace table it's very cosy. "

  • "Everything we had was outstanding. Lobster bisque soup was awe sum. The rolls were unique and very good. My prime rib was also done perfectly. I also love how their baked potatoes have the sea salt baked on them."

  • "As a qualifer I'd like to tell you that In my business I've been fortunate to have dined at some of the best restaurants around the worldand I cant tell you how happy I was to find Stoney River when you moved into our area. It's a very warm & inviting atmosphere & I am always very comfortable & feel welcomed. The food, wines & bar are ALWAYS consistently great & your people are wonderful. The Stoney River "family" are all winners. Keep up the good work. One last thing, don't ever change the bread/rolls or whatever you call them."

  • "I ordered the Coffee Infused Filet Minion and it was out of this world. I like my steak well done, and because of the coffee, brown sugar, and molasses there was an amazing crust built into my still juicy steak that I could cut with only my fork. My boyfriend got the steak medium and his was juicy and delicious as well. Highly recommend."

  • "Again we had a pleasant dining experience at Stoney. all five of us enjoyed our meals [prime rib, ribs, trout, salmon]. serving potions were huge especially on the veggies which we all loved."

  • "We went out of our way to go to eat here since we were thinking about having our small after wedding reception/dinner at Stoney River and we wanted to check out the food before we booked this restaurant. I was really hoping for a great dinner based on their prices but was very disappointed in the quality of the entire meal. The coffee cured filet and the salmon were delicious and well cooked. However, when it came to the side dishes (burgundy mushrooms, sautéed spinach, and potatoes au gratin) they were extremely bland! I make these dishes better at home! When I go out to eat I expect to receive a meal that is better than what I can cook at home especially when I pay that much (and I am not that good of a cook)!"

  • "Been here before great food. This time for not being busy they messed up steaks. But still was great and gave us free desert. Will be back."

  • "I have always had a great experience at Stoney River. Yes, this restaurant is a bit on the expensive side, but their steaks do justify the bill. They are simply awesome. My wedge salad was perfect. And the side dishes are delicious. Can't wait to dine there again."

  • "Everything was great!!! Loved the little puppies at the beginning. Huge portions, especially, with the side dishes. Attentive service. Definitely will return."

  • "It was very busy for Saturday night and we were seated promptly upon arrival. Our server was very friendly, attentive and great with our kids. The food was excellent and consistent as always. Have never had a bad meal or bad service at Stony River."

  • "My girlfriend and I visited on Friday evening (3/14) for the second time. We had such a great first impression from a few months back so we were excited to return, however quite candidly, we were unsure that we would be able to "top" our first visit. That doubt was quickly dismissed. Once again, the food, ambience and service were each, respectively, stellar. I also must comment that the iced tea was especially fresh and delicious. Toward the end of our evening, one of the managers (Steve) stopped by to inquire about our visit and thank us for visiting. We struck up a conversation and it enhanced our evening tremendously! What a nice, smart and charismatic guy! His commitment to customer service make him an asset to any business!"

  • "A little disappointed with the food, but pleased with the staff and service. We went for my adult son's birthday, we were well taken care of, very friendly and accommodating staff. When the food arrived it looked delicious and for the most part it was, however the pecan encrusted trout was full of bones and the Steak Marinato, marinated beef tenderloin medallions topped with a mushroom Madeira sauce, was over cooked- the medallions were tough and the sauce was more a consommé- reduced to such an extent as to be bitter. On a positive note my sons were pleased with the legendary steaks and said they were cooked perfectly."

  • "This place is good for a nice quiet night. Food is expensive, everything is a la carte so plan to pay extra if you want anything besides your entree. Environment feels a little uptight and yuppie but nice overall. The big fire place gives it more of a warm feeling."

  • "When my husband and I came for the first time, it was a slow Tuesday night. With that said, food and service were incredible. We went this weekend with friends after having such a great first time and it was the opposite experience. Server seemed very uninterested in us and we felt hurried to leave. Food didn't taste as good as the first time as well and my steak wasn't cooked the way I requested. I get it you are busy but every experience should be treated like it matters. Don't think I'm going back any time soon."

  • "We dined with friends who were celebrating 50 yrs of marriage! The 'puppies' which were served prior to dinner were scrumptious.. Steaks and prime rib were served just as ordered and 'hot.' All sides were very generous, definitely enough to share. Stoney River treated us to dessert, a mouse-like brownie which was delicious."

  • "Stoney River has been our go-to spot for family and other special occasions for as long as it's been around. The food is uniformly excellent, the service friendly and professional, and the atmosphere comfortable and just the right amount of upscale. The recent change of ownership had us concerned, but the transition was seamless, with slight changes to the menu but no change in the quality. If you live in the northern/northwestern suburbs, in our opinion there's no reason to spend more at any of the better-known chain steakhouses - Stoney River is at least as good and a better value to boot. Go - you'll be happy you did!"

  • "We are frequent diners at this restaurant. Have always loved the experience. This time, our waitress was snippy, it was so loud we couldn't talk with our guests, and for the first time the food was mediocre at best. Very disappointing. If this was the first time we dined there, it would have been our last."

  • "Stoney River never disappoints. Their food is excellent and service outstanding. Without a reservation the wait can be long, but that is a testament to their popularity."

  • "This restaurant was superb. I am really picky about how my steak is cooked, so it is almost common practice for me to send my steak back for a bit more cooking. When I sent it back, the manager came over to speak to me about it. Then he came over to deliver my steak and make sure it was done the way I wanted it. I felt that I was treated with respect and that the entire staff was there to serve my needs. The only downfall was that my husband and I were seated at a booth that could sit six people. It was comfortable, though, and I just have to remember to request a table. I will go here again and again."

  • "We have dinned at Stoney River (Deerfield too) and this had to be the most disappointing experience we have ever had. Due to change in menu and preparation, we were less than pleased with what we typically ordered. My food was cold and they NEVER use to butterfly a steak! While the steaks were good, they now put butter on them and they don't have the same flavor and texture they use too. Even the Creme Brûlée was different, which was a favorite of my wife. We haven't been to Pete Miller in a while but for the price we paid still for okay food, we'll give them a try next."
