Each course is better than the last. I like a meal that builds and ends on a high note. The desserts are really good. Don't let the dessert menu fool you with it's lack of description and boring offerings. These desserts are anything but boring.

Our meal was delicious but the menu was very limited and hard to read in the dim light. We may have had the dessert but the light seemed even dimmer by then and we couldn't read the menu so we walked to Swensens.

Stones Throw is one of the best restaurants in SF. The food is creative and innovative as well as warm and comfortable. The staff is well trained, friendly, yet professional. The tables are close together, but rather than being a negative it allows people to make recommendations to each other, share observations, but still be able to enjoy their own company. On one visit the people at the table to our left offered to share their dessert. On our Tuesday night visit we poured some of our wine for the couple next to us to taste. The vibe is fun. The owners have addressed the difficult parking issues by offering several solutions. They are on top of everything.

Everything from quality of food, ambiance, to service was exceptional. We were most impressed by the tasty snacks/starters, Duck Pate&Mousse w Warm Pretzel and Mushroom Ragout are standouts! The Squid Ink Conchiglie Pasta was also unusual. We joked about returning to order just the snacks/starters. The entrees actually were also very good. This was our first visit and will definitely return...

I've been wanting to go here for brunch for months and was so excited to try it. I made a 1pm reservation and arrived promptly. No one spoke to me for the first five minutes I was there, and we weren't seated until 1:15. The $20 Pimms pitcher was good, but completely filled with ice and didn't even make three full drinks. I ordered the soft scramble and my food was cold. I realized it was mostly because of the sauce on top and scooted it off, but even still, the dish was cold. My friend got the hash and the white of his egg was totally runny. Neither of us finished and both of us left hungry. Maybe an off day because I've heard only good things, but I probably won't be back.

For my last night in San Francisco after a two week trip, I picked this restaurant out as a place to go for dinner given its overall good reviews and availability. Overall, I felt disappointed in the experience. My group felt that our waiter was rude and inattentive - he seem to engage far more with other tables than our own. The appetizers we ordered were quite delicious. My burger was large and greasy, and overall I felt of subpar quality for a burger at this type of dining establishment. I dine out quite often and realize sometimes restaurants and people have bad days, but given the vast number of delicious places to dine in this lovely city, I doubt I will ever go back here.

The meal was amazing, really amazing. We were a party of 5, and had our 3 teen boys with us. The staff was wonderful with them, explaninng dishes and answering questions. Everyone loved the appetizer, meal and dessert. The duck pate was amazing, as was the grilled octopus as appetizes. Entrees were just as amazing. The service, food and entire experience was wonderful. Everything was timed perfectly by the wait staff. The meat was cooked perfect, the fish was also cooked to perfection. I also had a drink from the bar, which again was amazing. This restaurant is worth the price tag. I will be coming back again and again.

Smoked salmon mousse, puffed potato and egg app, vanilla donuts, Da Burger, all good. Also the sparkling rose was great, it was dry just how I like it. Service as always was great and it wasn't too busy, it was a full house but no insane line outside. We did have an 11 am res though so that helped.

I was visiting SF recently, and came across this place. I ended up eating here twice in a week. Once with my wife and then with friends. And both times, it was phenomenal. They have great, inventive dishes that have a lot of range, but still with a very approachable menu. Squid ink pasta was unreal. They also are very nice and very hands on there. There is no pretense, which I love. It's a laid back spot with great food at reasonable prices. It will cost you a bit for dinner for sure, but absolutely worth every penny. Highly recommend you check this out.

I recently enjoyed brunch at Stones Throw. I had been contacted 2 days before to confirm the reservation. They also asked whose birthday we were celebrating. When we were seated they had a card on the table. The brunch menu offered a good variety. A highlight was the chocolate hazelnut filled crepe. Great item to share. We also ordered the salmon mousse, rolled omelette and eggs with hash. Everything was delicious.

Everything was flawless. The food is delicious and the menu has witty section headers which are fun to read. The dessert menu has a comment section, in which to write your favorite childhood dessert. I like that the restaurant feels a bit more personal and unique. Just don't try to drive here as parking is beyond terrible there - take Uber at their recommendation and get 5% off the tab.

My husband and I stopped by Stones Throw and throughly enjoyed our dinner. We were treated with an on the house small bite plate bc our reservation went over about 10-15 min (which wasn't bad at all bc their bar is lovely and has great drinks). Our meal was delicious (definitely look into the duck patee and mouse) but my husband did say that he was disappointed in the portion of his meal, Prime Beef Ribeye, which is the most expensive entree. It honestly wasn't enough for a meal :( However, I had the burger and tots and wow! So yummy! Overall, we had a lovely experience, but wish the portions were a little bit larger.

We were a little concerned when the beer list was longer than the menu (and at times, more expensive), but with 5 in our party and 5 different entrees to choose from, we ordered one of everything from the entrees along with the patè with pretzels and squid ink pasta for starters, both of which were excellent. The entrees came out one at a time and we just ate family style. Everything was excellent. Highlights included the fava bean ravioli (with a delicious melt of truffle butter on top), the duck, which had a deliciously prepared duck breast cut with some sort of incredible deep fried shredded duck ball beneath it, and the salmon. To be honest, they were all incredible.

I am an Open Table VIP so it is hard to get a good review from me. My husband and I had dinner here with my son and his fiancé on a Saturday night. While the menu is small, everything on it is wonderful and plated beautifully with attention to detail. We had the puffed potatoes and eggs starter which was unique, delicate and tasteful. The squid ink pasta and salmon were perfect. For dessert, don't miss the Stone Fruit Clafoutis. Wine list is interesting and affordable. Our waiter provided excellent service, anticipating our needs and not complaining or sneering when we requested that he open a bottle of wine we brought from Willamette Valley ($20.00 corkage fee). I would definitely recommend this place and will return again and again.

Stones Throw is a gem in the normally staid Russian Hill neighborhood. However, most of their dishes are pretty conservative; e.g. the Puffed Potato and Egg and the Octopus & Okonomiyaki Pancake trigger very similar palettes. The Squid Ink Pasta, however, was more unique and a highlight. I will not deny that every dish was very well made and still very good. Overall, if eclectic, unique food (a la State Bird) is not a criteria for you, Stones Throw is a great choice for standard reinventions that still excite your taste buds. PS - their cocktails are a plus (Housemade Pimms)
