Diner Reviews
  • "Very well trained and friendly staff. Appetizers and entrees were great...except the tater tots that came with the delicious burger, were too heavy and rich... fries would have worked. My nephew said it was the best steak ever and the fava pasta was perfect. I was looking forward to the chocolate bananas foster, but it was just okay, same with the peanut butter and jelly donuts. All in all, a great meal and would definitely return!"

  • "I've been meaning to try Stone's Throw for a while and glad I tried, but won't be going back. While the food was creative, few ingredients were tasty, several dishes were noticeably salty and not cohesive in flavor. Overall I didn't find any dish memorable and leaving me craving to come back next time. I found neither the food nor the whole experience to be matched in price. During dinner time after 7/7.30 pm it became too loud to hold conversation comfortably."

  • "We had a great meal,,very thoughtful and creative. Some favorites were the potato puffs, pate, corn soup and the grilled octopus."

  • "I booked this place thinking it was typical bistro was expecting the same menu I get at most tavern type places. I'm not sure why I thought that from the description. The food turned out to be fantastic. Perfectly cooked salmon and steak. Amazing pâté. Tomato Cream wafers could have had more taste. Very attentive staff including head chef and our server Danielle. Raves to this place."

  • "Food was outstanding. Service was attentive. My main complaint was we were placed by a large group in the back and they were very noisy. They should not have tried to fill the two small back tables with the larger group there. Food while tasty was not overly generous with portions. Would still recommend. Parking is miserable. Parked at ghiradelli and took cab from there."

  • "After two visits, one on a date and one with a group, I am a huge fan of Stones Throw. Everything on the short menu is at least very good; a few dishes (like the squid ink pasta, the octopus and the duck) are phenomenal. The staff is friendly and caring, with a lot of personality, and the pacing is not rushed. I live that the place is full of people from the neighborhood and that Stones Throw makes that a priority. The beer and wine lists are unique and interesting. I just wish the menu were longer!"

  • "Great food. We had the squid ink pasta (very flavorful), octopus (very well done, one of the best we've had) salmon, corn soup and duck. For the dessert had the bananas foster and donuts. Both were fantastic."

  • "The food is some of the best in San Francisco right now, but the most exceptional thing about Stone's Throw is the level of customer service that is definitely not seen very often. From the host to the wait person to the owner, they were all professional, attentive, and proactive. My group ordered quite a few things from the small but well thought out menu and each dish was unique and fun and delicious. I cannot wait to return. The restaurant suggests using Uber to get there and I can see why - parking is difficult to impossible in this area. But, for sure, do not let parking deter you from trying this great new restaurant."

  • "Second time at Stones Throw, and a great meal again! The puffed egg and smoked salmon snacks are amazing. Duck entree is amazing. And tater tots that come with the burger are reason alone to order it!"

  • "great food, great service the perfect neighborhood spot. Bartender Tyler is definitely a reason why we keep coming back, his knowledge and warmth is exceptional."

  • "This is now one of my favorite restaurants in the city. It's fit for vegetarians as well, with lots of options. I loved their appetizer of the little rolls with creme fraiche that had the flavor of fresh tomatos with a fava bean dip. So yummy. The Banana Foster was also amazing. A definite must try on this restaurant and the waitresses are extremely pleasant and friendly."

  • "The best meal in quite a while: squid ink conchiglie pasta, tomato cream wafers, octopus okonomiyaki, smoked salmon rillettes, fava pyramid pasta, were all bursting with flavor and truly unique, like nothing I've had before. The desserts were playful and delicious: peanut butter and jelly donuts and a deconstructed apple pie. Service was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable and simply incredible. It's clear that everyone on this team is a pro. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Stones Throw was the highlight of my trip to SF. Every single aspect of the experience was perfect. Top quality food, extremely creative menu, and the staff is exceptional. This will definitely be a restaurant I visit every time I come to SF."

  • "First, the food was really good. I didn't get to try everything, but we had some pancakes and duck hash. They were both very good. We will have to go back and try some other things to have a full sense of the place, but I am definitely going back. They had a great beer and wine list (which we didn't have)... I wish they had some additional non-alcoholic beverages available on the menu. I don't want to drink all the time."

  • "loved all the "snacks" and the pork belly was decadent! Great wine list! And the staff was helpful and energetic!"

  • "I ate here with my girlfriend and everyhing was absolutely amazing, this is now one of my favorite SF spots."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "We didn't make it to the entrees since the snacks and appetizers all sounded so good. Our favorite was the SQUID INK CONCHIGLIE PASTA, delicious. Sat at the bar where the bartender was wonderful about recommending both food and beer selections."
    Dined on 6/11/2014
  • "Came for brunch with 2 friends and their 8 month old. I wouldn't call the food menu itself kid-friendly, but the restaurant was more than happy to make sure we had room for a stroller and provided a high-chair for when the baby woke up and was ready to interact with us at the table - which is great because many other places don't even have room for a stroller. All in all, highly recommended!"

  • "The food here is great. While the dishes size is medium the quality is great and the beer\wine selection is also superb."

  • "The snacks before brunch were AMAZING, namely the puffed potato. We would definitely go back for that dish alone!"

  • "We tried Stones Throw, having nearly always had good experiences at Fat Angel, the proprietor's other establishment. The menu is limited to 4 items each on the appetizers and entree lists. The service was very slow. For example, we waited 20 minutes after ordering glasses of wine for them to arrive. "

  • "Very little value. We went ther for my bros Bday. The said they were going to give him a little card but they didn't. "

  • "Very cozy atmosphere. Pretty busy. Service was very good. Wine was excellent. Unfortunately, the food wasn't very tasty. The deconstructed apple pie was a sore disappointment."

  • "Literally the first time I came here everyone was so freindly and amazing. The food was fantasitic. Honestly I feel everyone should eat here. The atmosphere was great as well. The food will bring you to a whole different world. Hands down one of my favorite places and I've went back ever since!! I just can't get enough!"

  • "The hamburguer is very very good. I will return many times just to eat that dish."

  • "The menu is not expansive but what they offer is terrific. Most notable for us was the duck mousse pate with warm pretzel rolls, the squid ink pasta, the herb crusted New York Steak and Roasted Duck. The peanut butter and jelly doughnuts and the deconstructed apple pie were amazing. The service was great. It's a bit loud but so worth it. "

  • "I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our experience at Stone's Throw. We are foodies and hands down the duck dish here surpassed that of any other high end restaurant in the greater SF Bay Area. Better than all of the five star restaurants we have been to. It was fabulous. The service was attentive and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a great anniversary from a hand written nite upon arrival to a chocolate sign on our dessert. Definite neighborhood gem. Go there now while you can still get a reservation - they are going to be the next best thing in SF! "

  • "I have been hearing wonderful things about Stones Throw since their opening - but as with all new restaurants (hot spots) I took it with a grain of salt and wanted to wait a couple months so they could normalize. Finally went for Mother's Day dinner and the reviews were right! Delightful, delicious food - the pork belly in particular was exceptional. Octopus Okonomiyaki and Squid Ink Pastas were both well balanced and tasted like the ocean without being fishy. Strip steak, duck and mushroom lasagne were all fantastic as well. DO NOT SKIMP ON DESSERT! Incredibly artful plates with beautifully complementary flavors. Excellent service to boot. I will be going back to Stones Throw again and again."

  • "Tasty and unique flavored mimosas, delicious puffed potatoes with egg, and a duck confit has to die for. Must try!"

  • "The octopus appetizer and duck main course were especially good."

  • "First - the hosts were terrific. We arrived a few minutes late for our reservation, but they still offered us a seat at the bar for drinks before dinner, despite the fact that they were busy. They were attentive and seated us when the rest of our guests arrived - kindly and efficiently. The dinner was superb; for me, the clear standouts were the octopus starter, the salmon rillettes, and the pork belly and crispy pigs' ears. Delicious. My steak was perfectly cooked and very tender, and the salmon was also delicious. The server was attentive, not overbearing, and had a great sense of humor. Congratulations to the owners - it's not easy to put together a cohesive team and train them, but this group is talented and fun to be around. Bravo!"

  • "I have wanted to try this spot for a while now. It is difficult to get a reservation; they are always booked! So we decided to go early one night and it lived up to the wait. Each plate was a surprise with their spin on it. Smaller portions but well prepared and delicious. "

  • "I am giving Stone's Throw a 5 out of 5. The food was amazing and well priced for the amount we ordered. I've been here for brunch and dinner and had a wonderful experience both times. The service is excellent, very attentive but not in your face. The vibe is dressy yet you don't feel out of place in jeans and a flannel. I will most definitely be back. "
