Diner Reviews
  • "Great food and excellent wine selection in a beautiful setting. The service was everage I thought"

  • "The service and food were outstanding, but, after having some trouble finding the place, I found lacking and unreadable signage to be frustrating. I recognize that, given the beautiful landscape, they want to keep signs low-key, but I didn't know that valet parking was the only option and, given the ranch's various roads and paths, I didn't know where to go upon entry. Some low-key, inexpensive, and clear signage would go a long way."

  • "This place is simply amazing. Food, wine, staff and incredible food. Don't travel to Europe. This may be the best place in the world."

  • "We celebrated our Anniversay dinner at The Stonehouse. It was an amazing experience. We could have done without the table behind us as they were obnoxious, moved their table 3 times! Our server gave great recommendations for everything. Their wine list is a little intimidating (I'm not huge wine drinker) but it was HUGE, and came with a table of contents!"

  • "Rustic but sophisticated. Wealthy crowd. Rarefied Santa Barbara experience. Low lighting at night. Fire places and candle light Excellent chef Californian food. Expensive but worth the money. The only dish which did not work was the duck Roll appetizer. Which should be avoided. Not a place for little kids."

  • "If you are looking for a perfect evening meal in every way...look no further! From the moment we walked in till heading back to valet, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. We agreed that the meal was one of the best we have ever had! Every course was memorable. The view was breathtaking...sunset was a treat. Our waiter was an expert on not only the menu, but on customer service and making you feel right at home. The vibrant flowers, the wine selection, and the rest of the staff we encountered were icing on the cake. Thank you for a memorable night...I can't wait to return!"

  • "One of the best in Santa Barbara and has been for a very long time. We continue to dine at the Ranch for special dinners and just for fun down in the bar. My out of town friends can't believe a place like this exists. Truly a jewel in beautiful Santa Barbara."

  • "I've been to the Stonehouse twice for brunch and have to say, it's was a lovely experience on both occasions."

  • "The San Ysidro Ranch is a icon in Santa Barbara and the world. A treasure, kindly preserved for all of us to enjoy. I can't speak highly enough of this place. I go there as much as possible to dine, to be, and to enjoy."

  • "I had not been to the stone house restaurant in a few years. What a big mistake. The ambience itself is a reason to go there, but the Food, service and the setting makes it a place I'll be returning to very soon. Lovely, lovely, lovely!!"

  • "This menu is tired! And, there is virtually nothing for vegetarians at all. I think the entrees are heavy with lots of butter and cream, which makes them tasty, but a nice, simple green salad would be a good counter balance to them. I conceded and had the halibut -- I thought the artichoke flavor was too heavy compared to the other flavors. Normally, I do not eat meat or fish but there was no straight pasta or veggie dish available Our server could not have been better -- perfect blend of ability and friendliness -- But, it is the atmosphere that draws us -- we do not come for the food really."

  • "My out of town sister , from Texas, is a culinary graduate from Peter Cump in NYC. Our family is food obsessed, and we loved San Yisidro Ranch. I was "showing off" Santa Barbara and this lovely spot did not fail me. I am in love with this restaurant."

  • "The Stonehouse never disappoints. Always outstanding."

  • "The meal was wonderful though perhaps a bit over-priced. It's hard to find fault with anything as the meal was that exceptional in every way. My only negative comment is that even by the best gourmet standards the final bill was a bit more than I would want or expect. Though I would recommend this place, I would also have to think twice about going myself another time just because of the very high price. And I would have to note that to friends."

  • "What a lovely setting. The lights ared turned down low everywhere to create a certain ambiance. Can you say dark? Beautiful though. Fabulous service and very good food. For the price I would expect perfection at every level and the kitchen is not quite there."

  • "This is the best of the best. Arrive for your Sunday Brunch and it is nothing short of special. Sit outdoors where it is the most peaceful brunch you will ever have. Food and service are terrific. This is a must try place for a Sunday Brunch."

  • "Food was good but even for 50% of the price it was only good, not great. For that price (165 per person) it should be special. Much better values in Montecito and SB."

  • "We once enjoyed a fabulous meal and romantic Birthday lunch for two on the upper outdoor terrace over looking the gardens of the Ranch. Being from Santa Barbara and enjoying the Ranch for my whole life, it never gets old here. Our server Sommer was truly perfect throughout our entire meal. The food was spectacular and setting was elegant as always. Mr. Warner's constant attention to detail and respect for his properties makes life's celebrations so wonderful. Thank you to the entire staff at the Rance for making our visit so memorable and truly special!"

  • "And this place really is. A magical and cozy place, with low, romantic lighting. But....the food isn't that great here. It's good, but it's not amazing. If you want amazing in Santa Barbara, I suggest you go to Julienne, which remains my favorite place in town. I had the foie gras (they get around that by calling it a salad and comping the liver), and I had the sea bass special. It was a tiny bit dry. I also had bananas foster, which was served with too much sauce, the rum hadn't burnt off enough and the overall hadn't all properly carmelized. The service was wonderful, the wine was great, the special cocktails so-so. I'm no mixologist but I feel that overly relying on sugar or mixers with sugar in them is of out of date."

  • "A friend was visiting me while my husband was out of town and we heard of this fabulous small hotel/ranch in the middle of Montecito. There was a bar beneath the restaurant at this 5* hotel, that was cozy, relaxed and friendly. We had a glass of wine there, waiting for the restaurant to open. When we went upstairs to the restaurant, it looked magical and romantic with the white table cloths, the candles in the dark outdoors. It was perfect temperature (chilly outside) and we had an outstanding dinner. I had the Steak Diane (hadn't had that in years!) and my friend had the halibut. We thought we should bring our husbands next time! I'll be back!"

  • "Impeccable service, outstanding food grade quality, hospitality the best I’ve had. I wanted to surprise my girlfriend with the romantic dinner at The Stonehouse at San Ysidro Ranch .I had made reservation at 6PM But was caught in traffic coming from L.A. to Santa Barbara I had a called and said I was going to be late and if they can accommodate me an hour later I was very pleased to know that they had the same accommodation arranged for us that I had previously requested. Customer service is what this restaurant is all about. Highly recommend."

  • "The Stonehouse has an amazing location in one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in the world. Filled with history, be sure to take time to walk around the ranch after dinner. All of the food and drink was fantastic. Specifically note-able, we ordered the Steak Dianne, prepared tableside and another flaming tableside dessert, Cherries Jubilee...... both were amazing. Cheers!"

  • "We felt this was a very over priced not very tasty restaurant. The setting is lovely but to pay $56.00 for a lobster omelet containing a huge avocado and 3 small pieces of lobster was absurd."

  • "We went to the Stonehouse to celebrate our daughter's graduation from college and it was perfect. The staff is very attentive. The atmosphere is beautiful and inviting. I understand that there is a beautiful view during the day but we were there at night and still it was stunning. The food was exquisite and exquisitely presented. We had a few vegetarians in the party, including the guest of honor, and they were easily accommodated. The wine list is a bit overwhelming but we were able to select a very nice bottle. Overall this restaurant is expensive but worth the price for the perfect special occasion."

  • "This was a special event for our family, made all the more special by this lovely place. The wait staff is superb in every way - not intrusive but extremely attentive. Our waiter was very well informed about every dish. The wine list is extensive and he was knowledgeable and addressed our requests. We will definitely return - hopefully before dark so we can walk the lovely grounds."

  • "Stonehouse is a gem nestled among beautiful homes in Montecito. We booked a table on the patio for my mom's birthday lunch. A big fire was burning in the outdoor fireplace, tables were beautifully set and the cyclamen (sp?) we're blooming in all different colors. We enjoyed our lunch at a leisurely pace. The service was attentive and food was delicious. We will all definitely return! After lunch we walked all around the grounds and into the reception area . Really nice!"

  • "When we made lunch reservations as we did not want a heavy dinner or the Inn's Christmas Dinner. Once seated that was our only choice the Dinner menu at $150 each. That of course was not the people but odd. Also, for that rate at least include a glass of ice tea. It was a beautiful day and they crammed us into a tiny corner all the while the rest of the restuarant was pretty much empty. Regardless, the service was pleasant and in general a dinning treat. As an author and cookbook writer this was a pure treat."

  • "This gem oozes atmosphere and offered a sophisticated yet completely satisfying Christmas Day dinner. Beautifully decorated environment with good food and excellent, high-end service. Setting amongst trees and gardens is beautiful and makes a guests feel as if they're on retreat. Worth the drive from Southern California for a special occasion."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary here. We found everything about the restaurant and property enjoyable. The food was delicious, and our server was very helpful in providing information about the wines we were considering to accommodate our courses. He made note that it was our anniversary and the chef prepared dessert with an anniversary message. We are now anxious to try the restaurant for brunch as well."

  • "First visit to Stonehouse at SYR. The ranch has undergone an extensive renovation, but I would have loved to see its previous incarnation. I have a feeling the early California feel of the place has been lost to something more fussy and faux. Management needs to salvage the potential. Montecito is spectacular - in the right hands the plant palette can be fantastic. Cons: Dining room is not well enough lighted. (They give you a small flashlight so you can read your menu.) Battery-operated candles on the table. Music was too loud and intrusive (playing Christmas music). Ambience a miss. Pros: Staff were very warm and the food was excellent. I had the halibut on a bed of delicious veggies including artichoke hearts asparagus, and olives."

  • "My daughter and I visited Santa Barbara a few years ago and ate at the Stonehouse Restaurant. I loved it so much that when my husband and I were planning a trip to SB over Thanksgiving I was determined to return for dinner. It was even better this time - in large part due to the fact that we were the beneficiaries of all of the beautiful holiday decorations and lighting on the temperature controlled outdoor porch. The decorations added to the elegant and romantic ambience of the experience. The food and service were just as excellent as I remembered previously. I look forward to a third visit in the near future!"

  • "What an absolutely beautiful property. I loved how quaint and not overly crowded it was. It makes this place a real gem to dine at. It rained earlier in the morning so my friend and I were worried it would be too cold to sit outside. They had heat lamps and a fireplace to keep us cozy. They also had clear wall plasters to block the wind."

  • "Everything about our evening was enjoyable. The food was very good, though not overly distinguishable from many other fine dining choices. The service was sufficiently attentive though not quite as personable as it could be. The ambiance was a bit too dark, and was crowded and thus noisy. Next time, the option to dine outside will be more appealing. Because this restaurant is bordering on excellence, we will return."

  • "Driving into the driveway after dark, 2 guys step out of the "guard house." One stands in front of the car blocking the way, the other comes around to the drivers side and shines a flashlight in our faces like a cop pulling someone over & asks if we are checking in. We say no, just going to dinner, & are allowed to pass. This is how you welcome your guests? Table reservation was screwed up, waited an hour btwn 1st course & entree, then got overcooked, tasteless, overpriced food. Maitre d' was rude. This is world-class? We think NOT & won't be back anytime soon. Maybe celebrities like to be mistreated, but locals don't."
