Service seemed uninvolved and uninterested. Ambience and the food were good, but the service was so disappointing that next time I will go to Mastros or the Montage."

  • "Had dinner here 2 nights ago with a pal I haven't seen in a while. We ate on the patio overlooking the grounds, pool, & ocean. It was lovely. The service from the entire staff was perfect & very gracious. We shared a kale Caesar salad which was delicious & the Jidori chicken for 2 which is carved table side & served with the best truffle mac & cheese. So scrumptious. We were seated for more than 3 hours chatting & not once were we rushed. The server even gave us each a little tin of spice that was used on the chicken to take home. I would highly recommend Stonehill Tavern & am looking forward to dining there again."

  • "My fiancé and I another couple went to dinner at Stonehill Tavern with great excitement. We have eaten at many excellent restaurants in many cities/countries and cook a lot so the opportunity to eat at such a highly rated restsurant was much anticipated. Unfortunately, it was basically a disaster. It took TWO hours to receive our appetizers. No one came to apologize or to tell us the status. I had to flag the waiter down. When the food finally came it was decidedly mediocre, with my fiance's pork special of the evening literally inedible. Having already been there 2.5 hours we didn't bother to send it back. They gave up free desserts but that really didn't make up for lack of service and quality. I'm sorry to have to write this review."

  • "This was our second time dining at Stonehill and it was just as amazing as the first! This time, my husband and I were celebrating our birthdays. It was a nice, warm day so we agreed to sit on the balcony outside. The view was beautiful and we felt like we had the entire patio to ourselves. Everything from the salad to the main course and sides were amazing. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the squash blossoms were so flavorful and unique. The wine list was impressive and we enjoyed a fantastic bottle. We ordered a dessert to split but they also gave us each a complimentary little dessert for our birthdays. The service is extremely high class and you feel it from the moment you call for a reservation until the moment you leave."

  • "We visited this restaurant while staying at the St Regis. The location is beautiful, with spectacular views of the Pacific. The Chef, Michael Mina is well respected, and indeed there was a book of his recipes in our suite. However, the execution of the meals we were served was not spectacular, and the appetizers were considerably over priced for what they were. We had stayed at a St Regis in Puerto Rico and there is a restaurant there run by noted chef Jean-Georges, and everything we ate there over several days was remarkable. The food we had at the Stonehill Tavern was very good, but simply not remarkable. The service was also very slow. In summary, the meal was good, however not worth the time or money invested."

  • "I've had the pleasure of dining at ten different Michael Mina restaurants over the years and the Stonehill Tavern rates as one of his crown jewels. An elegant room with high ceiling and excellent table separate allows very good table conversation. The menu contains several Michael Mina standards that fans will appreciate along with innovative dishes crafted using locally produced items. The wine list reads like a novel with appropriate concentration on California wines. An extremely well stock bar mixing both old cocktails and new inventive ones. As expected at a restaurant of this status, the wait staff is highly trained, knowledgeable and efficient. If possible ask to be served by Claude. A world class waiter who could work in any house."

  • "There were four of us for dinner and the service and food were excellent. We had a table near the kitchen door which was not ideal and i would recommend requesting a booth when booking as these were mush nicer. Our waiter was awesome - Claude / Garcon - professional, dry wit and very knowledgeable. Overall a great dinner and i would recommend the restaurant. Try the fried chicken with the truffle mac and cheese and request the kale chips as an on the table snack pre meal - delicious..."

  • "We've dined several times at Stonehill and reserve it for special occasions. This time around we tried the tasting menu which was very good. The portions are tiny and the prices high so with a bottle or two of good wine from the extensive wine list you can easily spend $400. The service was above average, but very uneven. It took over 2 1/2 hours for the dinner service and the restaurant was not crowded and we were the first guests at 5:30 pm."

The meal was very good and we enjoyed the chef samplings we were presented with. It is a tad bit on the expensive side but the experience was worth it."

  • "My wife had the scallops which were tender and delicious. I had the filet (medium rare of course) and it was exceptional. Together with some starters (lovely salad and pumpkin ravioli), a nice bottle of wine, and some side dishes of vegetables (mushrooms and squash), the meal was extraordinary. The waiter's attention to detail was above average. He brought us some complimentary soup made by the chef prior to our starter, as well as some complimentary deserts for our anniversary, although I still ordered the warm chocolate mousse! Our only complaint would be the prices are extremely high for the quantity of food that is served. All portions are tiny. Extremely small and less than what we would expect from a steak/seafood house."

  • "We've been going there for special occasions for about 6 years. Note: There is only a view out the windows BEFORE sunset. Booths by the bar (no view) are cozy and romantic. Food is mostly local, with good fish and vegetables. Meat is over-priced, even for a $$$$ restaurant. Wine list is extensive and expensive. Service is excellent."

  • "I brought my Mom to Stonehill Tavern for her birthday. She lives nearby and it is her favorite special-occasion restaurant. They always treat us so well, lavishing attention and special samplings of their incredible creations upon us. Metro has always been our waiter, and he has a talent of making us feel extra special and appreciated. Add to that feeling the incredible food (we both had the Black Cod- excellent), and it truly is a spectacular event. They even brought us a few birthday desserts- wow! We were totally spoiled, and I think my Mom will remember it always. Thanks to Stonehill and Metro for a truly wonderful evening!"

Tried to up sell, but did not offer at the same price point, not good business. Dessert order was forgotten at the end and timing fell short at the end also, while not very busy at all???   • "Just an amazing meal. The food presentation was perfect. My wife had the filet and I had the bone in rib-eye. They both had amazing flavors, charred nicely with seasoning that enhanced the meat's flavor. If I had to be uber critical, the filet was cooked medium towards the edges, instead of medium-rare the whole way through. The tuna tartare was great as usual, its one of the staple appetizers. They prepare it at your table and you see all of the fresh ingredients. The small chef appetizers they brought us were perfectly sized, unique and a great surprise for the meal. We were starting to think we would not have room for the steaks since there was so many. All in all, it is one of our favorite restaurants. Great experience."

  • "The setting, with windows overlooking the St. Regis Hotel's expansive garden, couldn't be more dramatic. I'd definitely opt for an early dinner to enjoy the light. The service was also excellent; our server, Greg, was pleasant, efficient, non-intrusive, but personable. Food was good. We had Miso sablefish and the lobster pot pie along with a side of fried shisito peppers. We also had a konpachi appetizer. The sashimi portion was on the skimpy side. The miso cod was similar to what you'd get from an izakaya, along with an ordinary udon. The lobster pot pie was richly flavorful and had a wonderful presentation, but the lobster tail was a bit overdone and the crust was lost under the sauce. I'd have loved to see a pâte levée feuilletée crust."

  • "The food at Stonehill Tavern is some of the best. Ingredients are always a cut above what you find elsewhere. Tuna tar-tar with truffle and jalapeno oils is wonderful. St. Pierre fish was a bit salty, but very good when combined with the brussel sprouts and/or parsley root puree that accompanied it. Service was slow this time. Took us three hours to complete a simple three courses. But I still love the food and ambiance. It is Michael Mina at his best."

  • "Hi All, So the service was 5 star for sure. They use your name and treat you like you tip $100 for water. This is even before you sit down. The tables are set perfect, so you can see the sunset from almost any angle. The food was devine. My wife and I had 2 dishes that words will never do them justice. The Lobster Pot Pie was perfect. THe meat felt like it was boiled in butter. The pastry crust was light and melted in your mouth. you wanted more with every bite. The Butcher cut this night was so good, I had to take a moment. The meat was so rich in flavor you have had sit back and feel eat bite. If you eat this to fast you would be short changing your self and your taste buds. I will go back as soon as I can afford to... $330 on dinner"

  • "My wife and I enjoyed the atmosphere and the well made cocktails, but the entrees were small and overpriced. The kale caesar salad that we split was mediocre served with warm dressing. My wife's sea bass was cooked well, but served with tasteless noodles in a strange broth. My filet was cooked perfectly, but it was small and came cut up. My steal was served with small portion sides. I would have ordered more food if I knew it was a tasting portion. We did appreciate the service as well as the complimentary appetizer, but the overall cost was not in line with the offering."

  • "We didn't think anything other than Mina's flagship in San Francisco would be amazing. We were wrong. This is in a five diamond hotel, for starters. Then add a top notch wine list-even those by the glass-and a smart, comfortable setting. The food was perfectly prepared and our server left us wanting nothing. Make sure to try the lobster pot pie."

Service good and very knowledgeable, but not quite attentive enough. We prefer Studio at the Montage. At same price point you get far better ambiance, exceptional food and attentive service. Note: use the free valet service at the hotel entrance when you come to the restaurant. My own complaint is that they're not open for lunch!"

  • "We had an excellent meal with attentive service. This was not my first visit to Stonehill Tavern although it was the first time I ordered the Jidori Chicken. I do not usually order chicken in a restaurant but my daughter kept telling me how good it was so I had to try it. It truly was outstanding, moist and tender, accompanied by truffled macaroni and cheese, and broccoli. I will definitely return to order this wonderful comfort food again. The black cod was also very good. My only complaint was the noise level was rather high, probably because we were seated by a table of six women that increased their volume with each round of drinks. Nevertheless, it was a most enjoyable meal."
