Diner Reviews
  • "Our waitress was awesome. However, we ordered Peartini's that were made wrong the first time. Had to send them back. Ordered BBQ wings and they brought the bbq sauce on the side. Had to send them back. Ordered mac and cheese as a side and it tasted like an "out of the box" creation. Had to send it back."

  • "This is one of the "must-have" restaurants for people who have diverse tastes in their group. You can find something for everyone and the quality is good. Just envision an appetizer menu that ranges from fried pickles to brie. The atmosphere is good and so is the service."

  • "We tried this restaurant because we found it on the Queens Feast list. I honestly wouldn't go back. The service was good, lots of people standing around though. Our food was ok, nothing amazing, and nothing to return for. A little disappointed."

  • "Went for a restaurant week promotion. 3 of us had 3 different entrees and appetizers. All were excellent. Went back for an evening out and realized that we hadn't really looked over the entire menu, just had looked at the promotional one. Turned out that it's more of a sandwich, burger, casual food place than we had expected from restaurant week. In fact, some of the items weren't even offered. Different atmosphere than sports bar type (Fox and Hound, Bad Daddys), but not much different menu."

  • "Took my daughter her prior to our Daddy/Daughter Dance, so we went early around 530pm. The cheese sticks appetizer was obviously out of a box. My trout dinner was excellent along with the grilled asparagus. Quite surprising after the cheese sticks. My daughters mac-n-cheese was well, mac-n-cheese. I think their entrees are pretty good. Will recommend this place to friends."

  • "I've become a regular at Stone Mountain Grill because the food, atmosphere and service are fantastic! They have the BEST spicy shrimp appetizer (Firecracker Shrimp) and fish tacos! For dessert, I highly recommend the apple cobbler. There is a cozy fireplace by the bar to relax and have a drink. They have a nice wine selection, too. You will not regret giving this place a try!!"

  • "I have nothing but praise for this new restaurant, except for one thing: The noise! Impossible to carry on much of a conversation in the main dining room. The food was ample (except for having no bread), and delicious. The wine and beer choices were fine, as well. We will definitely go back to Stone Mountain Grill."

  • "Stone mountain grill is a great addition to Piper Glen and Ballantyne area. Good food, nice people, enjoyable patio. A place to go with a group or just two people the atmosphere is very welcoming. Using open table was fast and easy, first time user but not last time."

  • "I had the Halibut and it was cooked way to long for it was very dry. The broccoli was good. My boyfriend had the salmon and I always liked salmon but it had a real fishy taste to it for me. I am glad I did not order the salmon for I could not eat it at all. Over all the only think I liked was the broccoli and the dessert.. The waiter came to the table once after I had my 1st bite which I could not tell it was going to be dry on the 1st bite. For it was very spicy as well. He never came back until after I tried to eat part of it. When he did take my plate he asked me how it was and I said it was very dry. I think the chief over cooked it. I do not know if I will go back to this place. I was not Impressed with the food at all."

  • "The baked Brie was good but overpriced. The penne rustica was mostly onions and mushrooms with very little flavor. Our server acted like she was doing us a favor every time she came by, which wasn't very often."

  • "First time here, both the food and the service left much to be desired. Food did not taste fresh. I got the tacos (1 chicken, 1 beef) The chicken was dark meat chicken that appeared to be leftovers from something else. They also left me with a funky aftertaste so I stopped eating them and just ate the rice & beans. We also ordered the spicy shrimp app, similar in flavor to Bonefish bangbang shrimp, but only 8 pieces of shrimp. Better deal at Bonefish! The waitress seemed a bit clueless and unhappy to be there. She was too busy cleaning her other tables to refill my water. When we were done, she brought us our bill without offering dessert.. since she didn't offer, we went somewhere else to get dessert. I don't ever plan on going back there."

  • "At the recommendation of a friend, had lunch at Stone Mountain Although the service was excellent, t was not impressed with the food. I ordered a Stone Mountain hamburger that was serves without any condiments. The hamburger itself was not tasty. I have had a better burger that cost much less at other establishments. Despite the excellent service, I was disappointed with the food"

  • "I live about 30 miles from this restaurant but thought I would try it for restaurant week since they were participating. It is also a fairly new restaurant (less than a year old) so this was yet another reason I thought would be worth a try. Wait staff was very friendly and attentive but the food was mediocre. This restaurant clearly does not measure up to the standards of other restaurants that usually participate in the Queen's Feast. The Ribeye was tough and chewy and the fried oysters were almost all batter with the oysters being barely discernible. If you live in the neighborhood, I am sure it would be a fine place for lunch but not the kind of place I would ever go to for a fine dinner. Definitely not worth the drive."

  • "My sisters and I visited this restaurant for Charlotte Restaurant Week. It had a lively atmosphere with a great mix of music. We could've stayed and talked and laughed all night. The server was very nice and helpful. The food was pretty good; I especially liked the crab cakes."

  • "First visit to this restaurant during Charlotte Queens Feast week. Nice choice of Selections for event however food was pretty standard, no wow factor. To us it appeared to be an upscale Fridays when looking at the regular menu. Probably a good place to take kids for burgers or light dinner but not a 4 or 5 star restaurant. Service was good given the crowds. Pretty noisy as the restaurant was very busy. All in all a 3 middle of the road. May or may not consider revisiting but would be more of a quick bite to eat vs a nice quite dinner for two."

  • "the place was packed with folks waiting to get in, so we were glad we made reservations, They did note my request for a table near the fireplace. and the food was terrific. the trio appetizer has home made salsa, guacamole and sharp pimento cheese. but if you don't like one, say the salsa, you can get a second helping of one of the others, say the pimento cheese, and it's served with tortilla chips. The steaks were large and cooked correctly. We also had the crabcake appetizer and it was also excellent. The aioli was spicy hot, but my sister loved it. We had tuxedo mousse cake, it was also fresh and good sized, but not huge. The moscato wine was sweet and wet, the snickers martini was sweet and chocolaty. Our server, was very attentive."

  • "This past Saturday evening(1/25) my boyfriend and I went to Stone Mountain. This was our first experience here and we walked in and it felt more like a bar than a place to have a quiet, romantic dinner. Our server(can't remember name but was blonde and curly haired) really made the visit great. She didn't rush us at all, even though closing time was approaching. We started with buffalo chicken dip and a salad which was mediocre. Our entrees were prime rib and smothered chicken in which both were rather bland. Our smothered chicken came with bacon though we asked for it without. Our server noticed and fixed it which was very sweet. We got a brownie Sundae for dessert which the best part and we even recieved an extra one. Great server!"

  • "Heard about this place from Charlotte restaurant week. Throughout looking at this menu and other restaurant menus choose this place to eat. Was not disappointed at all. Food was cooked the way I ordered, every bite was good as the last."

  • "Outdoor space is awesome! The fireplace, outdoor furniture, TVs... It's like being at home, but with a friendly staff to bring your food and drinks to you!! We had mostly bar food (wings, dips, burgers) which was ok; nothing to rave about but we will definitely be regulars just for the relaxing atmosphere and great service!"

  • "My husband and I tried Stone Mountain Grill as part of restaurant week. We had a great server, and the food was very good (though I may ask for less butter on the veggies next time). The noise level in the restaurant was a bit energetic, so we had to speak up just a bit to have our conversation. I would recommend this restaurant because the food is very good, but I would not recommend a large group due to the noise level."

  • "We were very excited to try this new place for restaurant week. So I was very disappointed to find out their restaurant week menu were items not on the regular menu and also were smaller portions, a huge pet peeve to us when restaurants do this during restaurant week. The whole point of restaurant week, for us, is to try a new place to see if I want to return. So instead, we ordered off the regular menu and the food was fine but nothing to write home about. The day we dined here was incredibly cold and windy and the draft on all the exterior tables was so strong that everyone was huddled towards the middle end of the table. Our server was very sweet but did not know the menu very well. The highlight of the meal was the meatloaf."

  • "I was halfway though writing my review, when it said I had exceeded the maximum length. Somewhat diminishes the purpose of writing a review, doesn't it. So, I'll leave most everything out and just make general statements. Being Restaurant Week, we ordered from the special menu. I ordered the Firecracker Shrimp app, Prime Rib, and Key Lime Pie. Overall, my meal was delicious, spicy, tender, juicy. My wife had the Shrimp and Lobster Bisque, Filet Oscar, and Tuxedo cake. My wife thought the bisque was more shrimp bisque then anything else and needed spice. The Filet Oscar was divine. And the cake, way to much to eat in one sitting, so most of it came home for the kids."

  • "Had never been to this recently opened restaurant so decided to try during restaurant week. Nice decor and friendly staff. The waitress was helpful, attentive and made several recommendations. We ordered from the Queens Fest menu which was a good representation of the regular menu. For the appetizers, I had the firecracker shrimp which was very good but a little small. My wife had the wedge salad. For the entree, I had the rib eye steak which was cooked a perfect medium rare and was very tasty. The sides were very good. My wife ordered the prime rib medium and it came medium well but was not bad enough to send back. We both had the key lime pie for desert. It was creamy and tart like it should be. All in all, very good."

  • "We left knowing we would not give this restaurant a second try. My wedge salad was brown on the edges; his lobster bisque smelled very fishy. While he enjoyed his salmon entree, my filet was ordered medium and arrived very rare and cold on the inside, The service was quick, too quick. The entree server reached across in front of my husband to set down my plate while there was plenty of room to move around and set it down properly. And, a fine restaurant with these prices would already know who's dish belonged to who before arriving at the table. We were asked our dessert choices while we were still eating our entree and they were brought before the other dishes had been cleared. Also, the wine pours were very short and uneven."

  • "The food wasn't as good as we hoped. It wasn't bad by any means, just not great. Service was exceptional, drinks never went empty. Probably won't be back only because there are better restaurants in the same price range."

  • "My first visit was during Queen Feast Restaurant Week. The firecracker shrimp was a bit fiery but was enjoyable with the mixed greens bed. The Salmon was prepared well and the asparagus was nicely done. Looking at the regular menu, the selection had a great variety. The wait staff was attentive without being overbearing. Justine answered our many questions with a smile. I only walked by the bar but I can see dropping in for a drink & catching a game on the many TVs that I saw."

  • "Have eaten there 3 times and the food has always been good with decent prices. We went for Restaurant Week with friends to celebrate my birthday. However, my enjoyment of the dining room entirely depends on what table you are seated at. There are no doors to the kitchen and unfortunately, we got seated at the table next to the kitchen entrance. There are bright fluorescent lights and ugly 'kitchen' views. Definitely affected my enjoyment of the evening and was distracting. I would sit at the bar before sitting in that area again."

  • "We chose this place as part of the Queen's Feast (a three course $30 pp menu). We were disappointed in the first course as the Lobster Bisque had shell pieces in it and the Pear Salad was grossly overdressed which ruined any chance of tasting the lettuces. A poor first impression of the meal. The main course was standard "chain restaurant" fare. We had Prime Rib and Tuna. The presentation was a bit better than average. The amount of food was way too much. We took home twice as much as we ate. More attention to the preparation and not the size of the meal would have increased the quality. The desserts were good. The ambience was good for routine dining and groups of young singles but not for a couple who were looking for a quality meal."

  • "My friend and I paid the bill together with cash and a credit card. The server brought back the bill and the credit card had been charged the full price. I asked about the mistake, the server had no idea that there was cash in the sleeve. She went back to look and without success. After much time and going back and forth the money was found. Another server had "discovered" the money on the ground and kept it! I know the server was not guilty since we heard other servers talking about the situation. I was extremely surprised when the manager did not even come out to apologize and acknowledge the error, when it was another server who was dishonest. I read reviews that the service and management was poor but took a chance on the place anyway."

  • "We had our first experience at SMG on 1/21/14 and overall found it very enjoyable. The grilled salmon was excellent and the pear and goat cheese salad was also a hit. The wine list was large enough for options, but not overwhelming, and reasonably priced. The sauce on the crab cake was over powering so it was the exception to an otherwise tasty menu. My husband who ordered the crab cake is a wasabi eater so that gives you a sense of how spicey it was if he didn't want to eat it. Our server immediately offered to replace it and although we didn't take her up on the offer it was certainly appreciated and a reflection of good service. Thanks SMG for a very enjoyable experience. We'll be back."

  • "My husband and I decided to try Stone Mt. Grill for Restaurant Week, but decided to order off the regular menu. We had the mozzarella sticks, which were nice and hot, but they were not homemade. My firecracker tacos were very good! I liked that they used a crunchy taco wrapped in a soft taco...nice touch! My husband had the sunrise burger, which he said was only "okay" and he spent most of the dinner trying to steal my tacos :) We ended the night with the cheesecake, which was also just "okay" (and storebought). Our server was wonderful! She was very observant and met all our needs. Overall it's a good place if you're looking for inexpensive, tasty food, but we would probably choose another Ballantyne restaurant for dinner."
