Stone Balloon WinehouseGreat food and serviceAs usual, Great food and service. Some of the best food in town!!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Food, Portions ExcessiveWe enjoyed an excellent dinner at The Stone Balloon. Our reserved table was ready as expected and we were greeted promptly. We enjoyed the brie fondue, veal schnitzel, steak, and despite the quantity of food ordered, I just had to try the bacon-wrapped dates with a chile-pistachio sauce, which proved to be out of this world. The veal was served with a cabbage and potatoes that were cooked to perfection. The only notes that could have been perfected were the portion sizes, which were enormous; I would have been uncomfortable finishing the dish even had I refrained from the dates or dessert, and the desserts, a snickers cheesecake and strawberry creme brulee with champagne strawberries and whipped cream were very good but not stellar.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFood CriticI thought the main course was delicious, the waiter very social able, friendly and he was very knowledgeable when he was discussing the wine selections.
However, I did not care for the dessert. I cannot remember the name of it but it was round balls which had chocolate and peanut butter in it. I thought it would be soft and yummy. Rather it was hard and I felt it was over cooked.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMCollege Town GemThe Stone Balloon Winehouse is only steps away from the University of Delaware campus on a very pretty but very busy street. The total dining experience is wonderful as the food selections and wine pairings are expertly done. There is also a very nice beer list as well as featured cocktails. Everyone in our party was impressed with the food and service and I highly recommend the Stone Balloon as an evening destination.
Be advised, thought, that parking is a challenge even though we were there mid-week but this place is well worth the effort.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative Tasty MenuI have eaten at the Stone Balloon Winehouse several times & they never cease to deliver creative and tasty food. The freshness of the ingredients and the flavor combinations are amazing. For appetizers try the chicken & waffles or the pork belly. Both are absolutely delicious. I am a crab cake snob, so I was wary about ordering the crab cakes (so used to fantastic Maryland crab cakes) but I have to admit that they were very good, and the portion so generous that I had one for lunch the next day. The wine choices are plentiful, if a little pricey, but it's a real treat to be able to get some of these wines by the glass. Highly recommend the Stone Balloon to anyone looking for a superior dining experience in the Newark area.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMNIce experienceEnjoyed Mother's Day brunch here, but lack of kids' cups (plastic with a lid) was surprising considering it was Mother's Day. Not exactly a place for kids but they accomodated my kids nicely. Great food and wine, although a bit pricey. Impressive wine list and flights were available.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Romatic Evening...The atmosphere, service, food, menu selection all were outstanding. Great wine list. The standard menu selection and special were so fresh. Like the garden and farm were right out of the back of the kitchen. Service was warm and polite and attentive throughout the evening. Had a fabulous time and would recommend going back for special occasions and just a quiet neighborhood night out.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA foodie find in Newark Delaware. From fern fiddlehead risotto to pear infused honey and bacon flavored ice cream you won't have a boring meal here. Serving sizes are small but the flavor is big. Come with a sense of adventure and a willingness to try something new and you won't be disappointed. The service is excellent; your server will help guide you to a perfect meal experience for you.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMI would have given the foodI would have given the food 4 stars, but the pierogies were ice cold in the middle. Other than that, everything else was delicious. The cheese plate was beautiful and very ample for 3 people for a starter. We all loved our entrees: hangar steak, filtet mignon , and the fish special. Will definitely be back when we are in Newark.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMy girlfriend and I went toMy girlfriend and I went to this restaurant not knowing anything about it. We were in town for the weekend. It did not disappoint. The waiter was very knowledgable and really provided great service. The food was great - we only did salads and shared a fondue appetizer, but everything was fresh and tasty.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant has some ofThis restaurant has some of the most creative dishes I've seen anywhere in this area. Not only do they go out on a culinary limb, everything is well executed. Service was great too. When the bottle of wine we ordered wasn't available, they substituted a more expensive one at the lower price. And, it was excellent.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMKnowledgeable and friendlyKnowledgeable and friendly staff. Great food and wine to match.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh quality diningReally Excellent food, good service, professional waiters. In a college town, this place has an older crowd, professionals and faculty more than students.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed the wine and atmosphereWe enjoyed the wine and atmosphere but our crab cakes were a little disappointing. They were about the size of a thick hockey puck but just didn't seem to have good crab flavor. We both felt the same. They were packed hard and think they would have been better if lighter and fluffy texture.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMLove Tuesday nights "BattleLove Tuesday nights "Battle of the Chefs"!
