Diner Reviews
  • "Service was poor, waited for 20 min. before server came for drink order and dinner order"

  • "While the food was excellent, the service was incredibly slow. Never waited so long to place both drink and food orders."

  • "Stockton Inn was a dinning experience that was exciting and a pleasure for our party. We enjoyed our night there and we have full intention of going back many more times in the future."

  • "Stockton, NJ is to this day a sleepy rural village along the Delaware River. This same ambiance extends to the Stockton Inn. If you happen to hint at or inquire about the history of the inn, your server will rush out and deliver you a 7 page, 300 year historic summary. The food is simple well-prepared and of course tasty. I recommend the pan seared diver sea scallops, prepared with broiled Brussel sprouts tossed with pieces of fried pancetta. The crab cake was good, but not that notable, go to Maryland if that is what you are seeking."

  • "My husband and I went out for the first time since I started treatment for cancer. I was not able to eat or taste for a long time, and for the first time in 5 months I was able to taste such amazing flavors. The lobster fondue was so good with large chunks of lobster. I am so glad we decided to try the Stckton Inn."

  • "From beginning (drinks) to end (dessert) this was a great meal. The service was top notch, the food was incredible and the decor was jaw dropping (assuming you love early American). We heard that the outside terrace is also the place to be in the warmer months and with the inn only being an hour or so from our house (this go round we stayed the weekend in the area) we'll definitely be back for dinner to eat outside. I would without question say this was one of the best complete meals I've had in a very long time and fit for almost any occasion (sans a kids birthday party). Amazing."

  • "Food was great. Spinach salad was a "cooked" spinach which surprised me but good. Restaurant was quiet and enjoyabe, but it was a Wed 12:30 lunch... My friends had soup, burger & the salmon. Portions were quite large, filling and cooked really well. Definitely would go again."

  • "We three went to the Stockton Inn to celebrate and were not disappointed. Service was a little slow and our waitress was rather more quiet than we might want. However, the food was very good and the staff very flexible. (After getting home we found we were double charged for drinks but the staff readily rebated our over-payment when we returned with receipts the next day). The mushroom and oyster soup in a milk base was very nice, as were our entrees of grilled rosemary chicken breast (boneless) and crab cakes, which had very substantial chunks of crab meat. The chicken pot pie made a full meal, too, and was available to us from the dining room, despite being on the tavern menu. We'll be back!"

  • "After the last few visits, I am impressed with the quality that the new management has achieved during the past six months. The food is very dependable; great ingredients well prepared can best describe my last 5 lunches, here. The garden rooms are very nice in the warmer weather, but I still like sitting in the older tavern looking out onto Bridge Street (those rooms strikes me as unchanged since my first lunch 25 years ago)."

  • "I went to the Stockton Inn and I did not really know what I was getting myself into, but it was remarkable. It's hard to explain but In the past, I have reviewed a lot of things. Restaurants, being one of my passions in life, have been one of these. Let me tell you, everything was perfect. It couldn't get any better. The whole visit was simply an ever-flowing chalice of pleasure for both me and my partner. The food was simply an art painted upon the tapestry that is fine dining. The staff, from the host, to the server, to the manager is incredible and I will return for them as well as the perfect food and ambiance. I will recommend this place to anyone."

  • "I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be. Food: Excellent! Masterfully prepared and executed dishes. Loved the lobster fondue! Drinks: Excellent. One of the best Manhattans I have had in a while and was blown away by the Italian red they were offering as a featured wine. Space: Out of this world beautiful, elegant with that old world charm. So much history and beauty. The main mural dining area is exquisite matching the exquisite dining experience. Service: Spot on. Great place to bring a date, impress your significant other, or celebrate a special occasion."

  • "We are a group of 4 couples and had requested a quiet table so we wouldn't disturb other diners. They gave us. A wonderful table next to the fireplace. The waiter was superb and everyone enjoyed his food tremendously. It was a thursday night so not very crowded, although the bar area looked like it had patrons who were regulars and it seemed a vibrant scene. Its a beautiful location and lovely historic setting along the Delaware. I would recommend it to anybody."

  • "Gathered here in February for a nice dinner with friends. Wonderful old building with free parking. Loved the antique furnishings and quaint decor. The food was excellent and waitstaff was friendly, helpful and very attentive. I would definitely go again and try the outdoor dining area in warmer weather."

  • "Our visit was perfection from start to finish. The reception was warm and genuine. My coat was taken. The ambiance was wonderful. It was warm and cozy. The renovations are beautiful. Our waitress was very professional-warm and friendly and disappeared at all the right times. The food was outstanding both in taste and presentation. It was a delightful relaxing evening. The "cadence" just flowed, cocktails flowed into the appetizers- to meal into dessert-not rushed, relaxed. We will be back!"

  • "We usually do not go out on Saturdays, as restaurants tend to be at their busiest and sometimes both food and service suffer from that. Yet the other night at the Stockton Inn we had a great dinner, excellent service as we always do on any other night of the week. It was a very pleasant experience, something different for us to be out on a Saturday night. Unfortunately we had no control over the loud table next to ours, but, fortunately, they left while we were still having appetizers....."

  • "The food was very good; the potato leek soup and the chili (from their tavern menu) made a great lunch. I also enjoy the selections of ale that they offer. I have, at other times, enjoyed the wines, as well. Service is always very attentive. Overall, a very good restaurant."

  • "First time at the Stockton Inn. Went for our anniversary and had a very nice, cozy quiet dinner. It was midweek after the snowstorm and quite frankly we were the only couple in the main "Murals" dinning room. Great table right next to the fire place. Server could not have been more gracious and helpful with menu suggestions. Will definitely go there again. Outdoor dining in warm weather looks very nice on back patio and front porch."

  • "We were instantly impressed by the gorgeous Colonial-era restaurant. We were quickly seated, and while we admired the building and decor, we immediately noticed that the restaurant was excessively warm inside, to the point of distraction. Our server was very attentive and took our order promptly. My lady opted for potato-leek soup, while I chose a crock of French onion soup; both soups were superb, but the excessive warmth began to feel oppressive. By the time our entrees arrived, we were both uncomfortable. I had rosemary chicken breast, which was excellent. My lady chose Scottish salmon, which was good but bland. Sadly, the effects of the heat ended up causing us to cut our visit short in an otherwise romantic and classy setting."

  • "Came here with a group of 8, crunched for time, was servers a devious meal, in 1.5 hours. Including appetizer, dinner, and dessert. The Stockton Inn is a very large interesting restaurant. The staff was extremely friendly. The clams casino, calamari, and short rib chili is a must try! All our dinner enters were great - braises short ribs, chicken pot pie, NY strip steak. Dessert was incredible. I'm not a big cheese cake fan but the turtle cheesecake was awesome!!!! Came with two kids, one is fairly picky, she had no issues finding something to eat."

  • "My wife and I went to the Stockton Inn for dinner on Valentine's Day and the overall experience was good. The location and restaurant were very nice. The fire and piano player were nice touches. The appetizers (lobster fondue and oyster and mushroom soup) were delicious! Our main courses were so-so and the dessert selections were pedestrian. They used to have a decadent chocolate cake that was outstanding, but no longer. I think some of the issue we had was our server. He was an older gentleman and just was all out of sorts with maybe too many tables? We'd ask a question about something on the menu or wine menu and he'd give a quick one word answer and was on his way. Our entrees seemed to have that "I've sat in the window too long" look."

  • "The Stockton Inn is an amazingly romantic antique building with great service, hospitality and ambiance. For the price, though, I thought there food wasn't stellar."

  • "This was our first time visiting the Stockton Inn and I'm very sure that it won't be our last time there. They had a wonderful menu, even for a special occasion evening. We never felt like we were being rushed or that the course came out one on top of each other. We can't wait for the nice weather gets here so that we can enjoy a weekend lunch or dinner on the patio."

  • "This is one of the best restaurant experiences that I have had in quite awhile. We split the Surf and Turf meal, and we were both blown away by how great everything it was! Steak was phenomenal. Atmosphere was beautiful, quiet and romantic. We enjoyed the piano player who came in about half way through our meal. Heard a lot of great things about this place and after experiencing it ourselves, we would definitely recommend this restaurant without out a doubt!"

  • "This was dinner out on valentine's day with my wife. Food was very good, and service very good too. Ambiance was excellent as we were seated at a table for two between a fireplace and pianist. We had an early reservation, yet the pianist started playing around 6pm. The entire experience exceeded our expectations. Prices were a bit higher than what I was led to believe on Open Table, but given the quality, service, and entertainment, it was worth it."

  • "I had been to this restaurant once before but sat outside by the bar during a summer evening. By far, the Valentine's dinner exceeded our expectations. The food was incredible, the best meal we have had in awhile. Th atmosphere was wonderful and the service was right on. Was not rushed at all as we thoroughly enjoyed everything g about our special night out. Highly recommend."

  • "Beautiful historic building, with a big fireplace roaring in the dining room, big picture window overlooking the outdoor patio which was beautifully lit with white bulbs even though it was the dead of winter. Have been here in summer on the patio and loved the atmosphere there, too. Only ordered off the "pub" menu, but we all agreed there was very interesting choices on the main menu. I've had the burger before and was never disappointed. Got the chicken pot pie this time and enjoyed the big chunks of chicken and veggies; absolutely loved the crust with rosemary. Others got the shortrib chili, the sheppard's pie and the crab cakes. There was nothing left on anyone's plate and no one had room for dessert. Good beer choices."

  • "We enjoyed a very nice family dinner at the Stockton Inn. Given the wood burning fireplace and the pianist, it would be a wonderful, romantic venue for a couples dinner. Very good food and a nice wine list (and reasonably priced). Would definitely go again."

  • "After a rather disappointing dinner the last time we dined at Stockton Inn, we went back on a quiet Monday night and had an excellent dinner.. From the oysters, ( Chicatee and Black Points) to the Lobster fondue and the herb encrusted lamb tenderloin, everything was well prepared and presented. Excellent service, the ambiance couldn't have been better. .As we dine there on average once a week I am happy that the last dinner was just a temporary hiccup."

  • "We went to this restaurant with our elementary school-aged daughter, and we all found food we enjoyed on the menu. Portions are big and tasty. The restaurant has that nice old-time feel, with fireplaces in each room. The one issue I had was the drink I ordered, which was full of alcohol and little else. I guess other people like their drinks that way, but I prefer them to taste good! The server brought me some more of the other juices that were in it so that I could dilute what I had."

  • "This Restaurant has lots of Character, very popular 100 years ago with the Literary Set, has hand painted Murals from artists of that time also to help pay for their "tab". Place has excellent food and drinks. Old historic area and New tastefully done addition."
