A word from Sticky Rice
With its charming atmosphere and bad attitude you won"t find anything quite like it. Our specialty is our fresh sushi bar. With rolls like g.i.jane, shiitake happens and Godzirra, how could you go wrong? Our huge bowls of noodles will satisfy big and small. Sandwiches, large salads, and a selection of other entrees round out the menu. We also feature a kids menu! Don't forget the (soon to be famous) bucket of tater tots with our special tot sauce. Sticky Rice, established last century has been rolling on and on. Sticky Rice serves up an unusual mix of American, Pan-Asian entrees in a friendly, inexpensive and inviting atmosphere. Spring rolls, potstickers, sushi, noodles and edamame (steamed soy beans) are simple and standard. Lots of choices for vegans and vegetarians!Continued

  • "I took my wife, our family and friends to celebrate my wife's bday. We are vegan and we love this restaurant. It is our special place for special occasion. Highly recommended for everyone vegan or not you will enjoy all the food!"

  • "Don't try to have a conversation with the person sitting across from you. The sushi is not what it use to be but fill up on tots and you might not notice. Probably won't be racing back to Sticky Rice given the other options in the area."

  • "Everything about our visit was fantastic, with the exception of the hostess. We dined for a birthday dinner and had fantastic service from the waitress, who allowed us to bring in cake and was hospitable in bringing us plates, forks, etc. However, the hostess was miserable. The bulk of our group began arriving a few minutes after our 6pm reservation, when we were first told the group had to be present to be seated. I said I wished someone had told me that prior, I would have ensured the party arrived on time. The hostess rudely responded "Well, it's already after 6, so that ship has sailed", and rudely insisted we wait for everyone to arrive. I spoke with the restaurant 2 times prior to dining, and they never told us of their seating policy"

  • "I normally love this place but we all ordered various sushi and noodle dishes and nothing was fresh. Avocado was brown. Veggies in the noodle bowl tasted old. The tempura was mush and had slid off the shrimp. Got $3 well drinks but the vodka was un drinkable so there was no point. It was my friends' first time visiting and everyone was really disappointed. It was almost embarrassing because it was my decision to take everyone there."

  • "Sticky rice has an amazing menu, great vibes, and pretty good service. I really like the dirty vegan dish, but last night I got the chef's special sushi, which was a three course dinner, and it was great!"

  • "I had an overall great time. got there an hour early so we relaxed at the bar until our reservation bartenders were great. When it was finally time for me to be seated the server was on point drinks came out quick and food didn't take long to get there. I will be back soon and with more people."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed going here after church. We wanted a place where both he and I(vegan) could eat and not feel limited. This was perfect and is recommended on HappyCow. My husband ordered the Szechuan Chicken with Udon Noodles and a bowl of Miso Soup. I ordered the tempura vegan sushi and a bucket of tater tots. Let me say, both the hubby and I tried, but could not finish the tots while at the table. They were hot, crunchy, and delicious! The sauce(a bit spicy) was a great compliment to the tots! The miso soup was pretty good. My husband loved his Szechuan Chicken Udon bowl. The vegan tempura sushi was awesome! It gets 5 thumbs up and I would definitely recommend it to my friends and we will definitely be coming back!"

  • "As we enjoyed our meal of vegetable tempura and avocado sushi, we heard a GONNGGGG ring through the room. The table next to us rushed to finish their sake bombs. This restaurant has a young feel; movies play on video screens and the whole vibe is very 20-30 year old specific. A fun experience, but a questionable neighborhood."

  • "I've been to Stick Rice several times now, and it's always a good experience. I tried the mongolian beef with udon noodles this time, and it was great!"

  • "The food was great, as usual. I love that it's a very chill restaurant though I do wish the servers took the job more seriously, in appearance and performance."

  • "We like bar bites and drinks! Went to a round table located in the bar area..and chatted, no one offered us a drink, a menu, or offered to explain why Lilo and Stitch was playing on the big screen? Weird to us...but, thankfully, we like each other and laughed without having any libations. When seated, our waiter was "amusing", he evoked the new unacceptable trend of sitting with the customers, because they are too tired and lazy to perform in a professional manner. He did made a good recommendation for sake and sushi, but he also recommended a noodle bowl for one of our guest. When our causal waiter returned and asked, "How is everybody doing?" WE told him about the dry dry noodle bowl...he offered no resolution, except use the soy sauce."

  • "Tommy was our server and he was fantastic. We had a large group and the staff and manager were very gracious in seating us and accommodating a group of our size. Everyone had a great time. Get the tots!"

  • "It took us several minutes to get acclimated because it was so loud. Forget even sitting downstairs for a nice dinner. It's more of a drinking scene. Overall, each dining area is overcrowded. Service was decent and the food was the save all."

  • "Back in college, my friends and I used to rent cars to drive clear across town just to go to Sticky Rice. Now that I no longer live in DC, I made it a point to come here every time I visit. This is not a spot to eat light, as the tater tots and Sticky Balls are a must. I haven't had a bad roll yet. The drinks are strong and fantastic. It's always loud and poppin! Reservations are highly recommended..."

  • "The food was great but there was one restroom for men and women. That's trashy."

  • "The service was incredibly slow. I don't know if they were understaffed but it took forever to first be approached by our waiter and even longer for our food to come out after we had ordered. I also could have done without the birthday party at the table next to us dropping so many F bombs that the Wolf of Wall Street would have blushed. The food was great though."

  • "Food was fabulous, I only wished I could have tried more options (sadly too full!). However, service was slow at best and often non-existent. Would definitely order take out in the future!"

  • "i'll admit that sticky rice has changed quite a bit since it first opened. it's definitely less about the bar scene for 20-somethings and more about being family-friendly. the food is still great, so i can't complain!"

  • "My husband and I tried this place for our bi-weekly date night and truly had no complaints, though admittedly we didn't go too far out of our respective comfort zones. We had the Poki, Edamame, Samurai Shrimp, and Mongolian Beef (sooo safe). I loved the black and white sesame seeds on the Edamame & the spicy dipping sauce with the shrimp. The poki was fresh and buttery (yum!) and came with two great textural elements (fried wonton crackers and seaweed salad). The Mongolian Beef was a little salty for my taste but thats nothing that can't be remedied with a squeeze of lime. BUT my absolute most favorite thing was the Saketini. I'm not usually into sweeter martinis but I loooved this one. Kudos!"

  • "Sadly I chose to dine here for my birthday with a few friends. The tots are amazing and the sushi was okay but the service was what left me feeling bummed. The waitress was not attentive at all. She brought out our meal with three items missing and did not acknowledge it with an "it's coming up" or anything of the sort. When we asked if they were coming she said yes and then when it did arrive there was still an item missing. She never checked in on us and it was one of the most awful service experiences I have ever had. We were also seated right next to the bus pan and the staff were throwing dishes in there with force, startling me on more than one occasion. I won't be back and am sad my birthday dinner was such a bust :(."

  • "Been here a few times and always enjoy it. I went out to meet a friend that was in town over the holidays. The only problem with the entire night was there was a table next to us (8 or so people) that ordered Saki bombs. The gong and banging was annoying, but its alright because I know I would enjoy it if I was the one taking the shot. Tommy was our server, he was great. Got drinks at the bar after and Mark was a good bartender."

  • "Food was really delicious. Definitely not Asian authentic but good flavors and fresh. Slooooow service. Especially with initial water & drink requests. They forgot my date's drink order. They said our food was delivered to wrong table ??? So they had to remake. The server flashed a charming smile so I think people let the slow service slide. Pretty loud so if you are on a date, not the best for conversation. Awesome music!! They take requests and play old school 90's stuff & show the videos. Super fun. Waiter gave us a "sticky nickel" for a free drink at the bar. One of the waitstaff is Deaf and signs. Some of the servers kinda sign too. I'd go back. It's lively and yum, but loud and slow."

  • "Great atmosphere, friendly staff (upstairs), delicious eats! They lost their liquor license for a short while a few weeks back, but now that it's back, we always come here when we come to the H Street Area for shows at the Atlas. Worth it, especially mid-week when it's not so busy."

  • "I took friends to stick rice after experiencing it with a different group of friends, and I am not sure if the cooks have changed but the food was not good at all. While it was not crowded it took FOREVER to get our appetizers, the waitress forgot to put one of our orders in and the sushi just seemed to be thrown together. This was a big letdown."

  • "The menu looked good, and good selection of beers. We had the avacado tempura, the gyoza's (potstickers), nigiri plate, and the soba salad. All were very good, except the soba salad didn't quite work because the soba were overwhelmed by the onions. The Also the vegetables were and the soba were not drained well, so you are left with a pool of liquid at the bottom of the salad. The avocado tempura were just amazing!"

  • "The food at Sticky Rice is okay, good sushi, good noodles and appetizers, and always fun for a casual dinner with friends. But the service is always horrendous. The servers are never nice, often ignore tables for long periods of time, rarely refill drinks, and generally ruin what would otherwise be a good meal. I've been for lunch and dinner multiple times and nearly every time the servers are absolutely terrible. If they'd hire a wait staff that was more focused on treating the customers well, this place would be much better."

  • "We love Sticky Rice and Couscous in Richmond, sadly Sticky Rice DC wasn't quite the same. Our drawn and buttered butter was cold and sitting upstairs just wasn't quite the same as the single floor, small and cozy ambience as in RIC. We LOVE Sticky Rice, but we may just visit the one in Richmond next time."

  • "Sticky Rice is always great when I go. I love the Asian menu, and the freshness of the food. I would recommend the udon noodles to be the noodle choice because I like the thickness of the noodle. I love the sesame chicken with udon noodles. You will love Sticky Rice if you're into spicy Asian cuisine."

  • "We don't venture to H Street often but had a coupon for Sticky Rice. The crowd is definitely young but the sushi chef knew his stuff. We ordered the chef's special - sorry I can't remember the individual pieces but it was all very good and fresh. Our server was not focused - I had to go to the bar to retrieve my second cocktail because he forgot to put in the order. More training would go a long way. The bar was packed so clearly happy hour prices draw in the locals. We enjoyed sitting on the upper level, away from the bar. We also loved the music playing - classic R&B."

  • "We discovered Sticky Rice a few years ago and is definitely one of our favorite sushi places (Godzirra Role and Tots!!) We drive in from Arlington because the food is always delicious. This past time we had the best waitress we have ever had there; attentive and extremely personable (I wish I could remember her name) but typically the wait staff is mediocre at best."
