A word from Stephi's On Tremont
On Newbury Street it’s a legend. Now it’s time for Stephanie’s to stake its claim in the South End. Stephi’s on Tremont is set to open this winter, in the coveted former home of The Garden of Eden on Tremont at Union Park. This second Steph’s will feature many of the same elements that have made the Back Bay location a landmark: Floor-to-ceiling windows, a substantial patio and, of course, prime corner real estate will make for outstanding people watching in one of the city’s most fabulous neighborhoods. Always a favorite for its comfortable, somewhat residential décor and service, Stephanie’s is a go-to for lunch, brunch and dinner…in the summer and the winter…for an afternoon drink or a blow-out celebration. A sophisticated comfort menu inspired by the original (and even including some of the classics) will be served in the bar & lounge, the dining room and a private dining room for special events. Stephanie’s feels like home, but better. Now come home to the South End!Continued

  • "Plain and simple, this restaurant was outstanding. The food was excellent and the service impeccable. We will definitely be back here."

  • "I've always like Stephi's - the food is good and it has a nice vibe. However, on Saturday night the bar was jammed with noisy people and the restaurant was quite understaffed. If we had been in a hurry it would have been a problem. The food was delicious and our waiter friendly, so overall, it was a pleasant meal."

  • "Went for brunch. Very busy on a beautiful spring day. Noise level was high, so I did not linger. Would recommend."

  • "Waitress was wonderful - not only congenial but also very helpful with a gluten- free member of our group. If only for her, we'd go back - but the meal was also delicious. We'd recommend this to others in a heart beat."

  • "Looking at the menu you think you've found yourself in an old-fashioned family restaurant, but the food is anything but old-fashioned. Grandma might not recognize the recipe, but she'd envy the chef's talent. (I sound like a food critic! Believe me, I'm not!) The turkey-club-sandwich-salad wasn't just good; it was terrific. Given their transformation of short ribs, I can't wait to taste what they've done with mac and cheese and meat loaf. And if you can resist the main course, you can make a splendid meal out of their starters. The restaurant is just two blocks from the BCA and Cyclorama, so it's perfect for dinner before theater."

  • "Mixed feelings about this place. I went for brunch, had the meatloaf hash with eggs. The meatloaf chunks were very mushy and just not very good, but the potatoes peppers and onions that it was mixed with was delicious. Menu said it was topped with fried eggs but it came out with poached eggs instead. This was fine with me because that's what I preferred but might not make everyone happy. Hollandaise sauce was not the best. Delicious mimosas and very good service. Ambiance was nice too. Not saying I would never go back but next time I'm in the area, I would probably try one of the many other restaurants around."

  • "Stephi's is great. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious. As good as both of those were, the cocktails were even better."

  • "When we entered the restaurant there was a strong, off-putting odor of fish, apparently from the night's special. Two of us ordered Bloody Marys, which were excellent. Three of us had different salads with protein and they were all good, especially one with rare tuna. The fourth member of our party enjoyed his meatloaf. We were going to the theater nearby, and for that, it is a really good choice, as it is just a couple of blocks away. We would return for pre-theater dinner any time."

  • "went to brunch at 1:30 on a Saturday with 3 girlfriends. Had the best time with out waitstaff and each other! The food was SO GOOD, and the bloody Mary's are to die for! We'll be back soon!"

  • "Nothing special here, imho. Food was meh, service a bit slow (and it was 5pm on a Saturday - not full yet)."

  • "First time for dinner here, the food and service were very good. Very Noisy"

  • "Four of us had entirely pleasing meals and were glad to have found this animated place so close to a theater we frequent. we'll come back. Service friendly and competent, prices in line with area- maybe better."

  • "we expected to find a couple of items on website menu such as fish & chips; onion rings you ran out of early on Sat night; overall the hamburgers & fries were good; the goat cheese salad was very good"

  • "Stephi's on Tremont is a nice option in the South End if you want good food and don't feel like waiting too long for a table. I've been here a few times and it never seems to be too busy, although reservations on the weekend is probably a good idea. Service was good, and while I actually don't remember what I ate, I remember it being pretty good."

  • "Took my girl here for Valentines day and couldn't have been more pleased with the night. The dinner was amazing from start to finish, and the waiter was a really great help with picking out wines that complimented the meal."

  • "I took my son for his 16th birthday for dinner and it was wonderful. I dropped off his cake earlier in the day and our amazing waiter Bill brought it out after our meal. The service was great, and the food was yummy."

  • "My boyfriend and I bought the gilt city and went for my birthday. His stephi burger was awesome! But my ahi tuna salad was ok. The meat was chewy and fattier for my taste. The other flavors of the salad were nice, but I would not order again. Bar scene was nice and overall restaurant feel was very appealing. Would probably go back and get a sandwich instead"

  • "One of the most forgettable places I've ever eaten. The dining area is encroached on by the bar, and the televisions. You will likely be listening to a celtics game in the background while trying to have dinner."

  • "Without a doubt the best Bloody Mary's in the city! The food is also great, the meatloaf hash and crab cake benedict are both wonderful."

  • "Just ok. Had to ask for a wait person after sitting at our table for a significant amount of time. Food was ok but nothing special. Not as good as the first time we were there. Maybe would recommend to friend but with reservations-not as a first choice."

  • "The well located South End restaurant is the perfect place for a relaxing evening with excellent libations and creative cooking. It is close to the theaters and historic sections of the South End. Great for Sunday Brunch as well. Reliable, professional wait staff and a friendly welcome complete the scene."

  • "Having never been here, I was surprised to find this great South End neighborhood spot. For the quality of food, the prices are extremely reasonable and the menu offers a great variety. I wish it had not taken me so long to find this place. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Surly hostess. I had a 12:30 brunch reservation and wasn't seated until 12:45, although I had arrived at 12:20. She kept saying "a couple more minutes". Not worth the wait."

  • "Went for our 13th yr anniversary. Restaurant staff was friendly and attentive; drinks were great; and food was excellent. Since we went at 6 pm, there weren't many people so the restaurant was pretty quiet. By 7:30 pm when we left, it was getting pretty busy and the noise level was much higher but not bothersome. Great visit."

  • "We went to Stephie's after the theatre. Service was outstanding and the food was excellent. The wait staff and management was attentive to every detail....water filled, empty plates removed, quality and satifaction checked, dessert menues delivered...not invasive, but responsive. Would definitely go back. Want to try Sunday brunch!"

  • "My family and I decided to go to Stephi's for our Christmas Eve dinner because no one wanted to cook 2 days in a row. I figured Stephi's would be a great spot because it always has a lovely ambience and hip vibe. We were all very pleased with the service (they held our table for 20 minutes because we were running a bit late), drinks and food - my brother particularly loved his black trumpet dusted scallops. We will all definitely return, either as a group or individually."

  • "I've been here a handful of times for brunch and enjoyed it. Took my two team members here as an appreciation lunch before the holidays. Service was great but food was very mediocre - ok I'm limiting this to my dish. I got the yellowfin tuna salad that had some highlights (pears were good), but felt like a high end salad you'd find at Applebee's. The lettuce felt iceberg/romaine heavy and the tuna had zero seasoning on it. There was a soy glaze dressing that I believe should have been meant for the tuna, but was inexplicably coated in a thin layer on the plate, hidden underneath the already dressed salad. Very odd. Once I wiped up the soy glaze up with the tuna, much better. Just expected much better execution for a $17-18 salad."

  • "The restaurant exceeded our expectations. We had a nice booth by the window. We had a Saintbury Carneros Rose wine, which was light and tart. The chowder was creamy and tasty. The arctic char was perfectly done - not too dry, not too rare and its accompaniments, a savory broccolini with olives, and a very smooth polenta, only added to the delight of this dish. The lamb shank was meaty and moist, and the "au jus" enriched the root vegetable and potato accompaniment. The wait staff was professional and friendly, adding to our dining pleasure. Despite the late hour (10 pm), the bar scene was very vibrant, and its noise "leaked" into the dining room. For its price point, we both felt Stephi's was a great value."

  • "This is a warm, inviting, intimate setting that maintains its casual feel. We were seated in a corner window booth that gave us wonderful views of the winter streetscape while still letting us feel a part of the dining room scene. We were served good and generous drinks, some wonderful warm bread and struggled to make choices from a menu that is both limited and has something for everyone. We ended up with the house salad and bolognese and the clam chowder and meatloaf. All were delicious. We split some outrageous chocolate bread pudding for dessert, which we couldn't and shouldn't have finished. We would absolutely go back and will and recommend Stephi's to anyone looking for good food and atmosphere. Valet parking too."

  • "Awesome little gem in South End. Our waitress was super sweet and made the experience wonderful. The food is terrific and menus are fun. Tables are tight and you are almost eating with table neighbors but that is OK given the ambiance."

  • "This was out second time at Stephi's. Food was excellent, but we were disappointed that our reservation was not handled as requested. We were dining early 5:30, so the restaurant was not busy, and we had requested a quiet, private table. With few other parties in the restaurant, they seated us next to a boisterous party of seven."
