Diner Reviews
  • "Stella is a favorite of ours and didn't disappoint us this year. Food selection was superb, as was the service. Expensive, but worth it. Ray"

  • "fabulous food and awsome presentation, all the extra touches were perfect We went to the bar as we were early and the bartender is very special, giving us a demonstration how dry ice was used in drink preparation. Stella is up there with the best"

  • "Eating at Stella! is a memorable dining experience. It is all about the details--from start-to-finish, everything on the plate (as well as the plates themselves!) were thoughtful and delicious. Service was impeccable and knowledgeable. One note: The wine list was EXTREMELY overpriced."
    Dined on 4/9/2014
  • "Great ambiance, cosy and pleasant experience. Can't wait to return. Food was wonderful. Bartender was very nice"

  • "Am at repeat customer My first choice when I come into town. I love to bring guests here. Tasting menu an experience. Nothing compares to it"

  • "Marginally interested staff in diner's pleasure. One unfinished course did not elicit any question from weight staff."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "Service was good. The duck course was good....but the other courses were only fair. I came away unimpressed and, frankly, disappointed. Don't assume that you actually see (or taste) a truffle...even if it is listed as a feature in the menu description."

  • "We dined here on our first night and no other restaurant quite measured up. We chose the four course tasting menu with wine pairings. From the amuse bouche to the lagniappe sweets, the food was sublime. The service was impeccable and the ambience was romantic and relaxing. The wine pairings were well matched although my husband did not care for a couple of them. Stella! will definitely be first on our list when we return to New Orleans!"

  • "The food at Stella! turned out to be almost as good as recommended. However, it suffers from a bit of pretentiousness in the overly "artful" plating and some ingredient combinations that are just plain strange. Never seen two different totally-gray dishes before. Must be the new "in" food color! But, overall, it was a very nice dinner; and the servers were extremely friendly, down-to-earth, and efficient. Then, while walking around the French Quarter late in the evening the next night, we happened upon their sister (brother?) restaurant: Stanley's. Both of our dishes were different takes on some comfort food staples. It's clear that this "burger" joint is owned by the same chef as Stella!"

  • "It was Moliere, a famous French playwright and actor, who said one should eat to live, and not live to eat. But after eating in Stella! my wife and I were reminded that eating really well is living! Wonderfully orchestrated service, lovely ambiance, knowledgeable staff to explain the food choices and excellent wine pairings. We had the Chef's Four Course Prix Fixe so that my wife got to taste Chef Boswell's 8 different "creations". We would highly recommend,"

  • "Lovely intimate restaurant fro special meals. Very attentive staff. Excellent food Don't miss Stanley's either. Great breakfasts."

  • "Stella was truly unlike any other restaurant I have ever experienced. The food was fresh, inventive, and exciting. Everything was done with such detail and precision, and tasted so wonderful that you don't want to leave a drop on the plate. My husband and I opted for the 7 course chef's tasting menu which was superb. We paired it with a bottle of the Copain Pinot Noir which I highly recommend. The service is unparalleled. Expensive, but absolutely worth it. A fabulous experience and we hope to visit again very soon."

  • "Easily one of the Top 10 restaurants I've experienced in the past 10 years. Truly outstanding food, service, and ambiance."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "Serving was fast and polite. Did have higher expectations for the food. It was tasty and nothing wrong but could have been more followed through."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "First of all, You must be aware that your choices will be limited. We had a choice between a 4 course menu @ $85 (4 choices per course) or the 7 course fixes menu @ $125. The place is beautiful and service was great too. The food was delicious if a bit overly complicated. The foie gras came with great breads which was huge for me, being that I am French. However, I would have loved a bit or rice of vegetables with the duck as well as with the Asian chili prawn. I am a small woman, I don't eat that much as it is and yet I felt like I was missing something... (sides !) In the end for the price of the diner, it was a bit disappointing to leave slightly hungry. I will recommend this to the serious foodies, but not the seriously hungry ones."

  • "Very nice and quiet. Service was excellent, and the food very different, but good."
    Dined on 3/25/2014
  • "The ONLY caveat I will mention is if your idea of fine dining is a 24oz. porterhouse, you may be disappointed. Otherwise, this is a TOP NOTCH restaurant. We opted for the 4 course menu with wine. That plus cocktails at the table (and a rather steep 9.75% tax) makes this a pricy night--but well worth it. Amazing combinations of delicious foods, and we left feeling completely satisfied. The only other restaurant i would consider comparable that I have dined at would be Victoria and Alberts at Walt Disney World in Orlando. Don't miss Stella!"

  • "First visit a few years back this place blew me away. This time was good, but not memorable."
    Dined on 3/24/2014
  • "Forking awesome. Get your foie gras on brother man! Complimentary candies at the end...oh my! Only complaint is they don't sell short rib by the pound."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "My wife and I had a terrific evening at Stella. For me the highlight was the smoked salmon, with the butter lobster special a close second. For dessert I had the chocolate mint dish, which was very good but nothing to rave about. My wife was very happy with her food as well. Service was excellent."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "4 courses or 7 your choice. The plate is the chef's canvas. As your vision competes with your olfactory senses you slowly lift each savory bite and begin to taste every favor you imagined. There is no rush. No hustle or bustle. Take your time as much as you need for each course. Your host will watch and is available but not overbearing. Don't miss this one. Put it on your bucket list."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "The food was excellent and highly recommend the wine pairing. Servers were great: attentive and knowledgeable. We were a little put off by the rude/arrogant hostess, but luckily that was the only bad encounter of the evening."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "My wife and I tried the 4 course dinner menu. We found the quality of hte food to be very underwelming. The portions are small and the execution and taste was just not up to the price charged. The service was not at the level of a 4 or 5 star restaurant. Example, I ordered a Martini, and my wife a glass of wine to start the evening. My Martini gets to me at least 5 minutes before my wife got her glass. She should always be served first..found it very odd.Waitresses blouse was popping open as it didn't fit correctly. Everyone was very nice, just not that well trained, and a little sloppy."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "Some of the food was outstanding and some just ok. So not consistent. Wine list was very pricey. It Very loud. They served a consommé with a fork and not a spoon. Five of the seven wines on the tasting menu were sweet."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "We had the four course menu with wines which suited the food. All of the food was well-cooked and there were no errors. The style is classicial, but some of the food was new to us as Europeans - for example the chilli prawns NO-style. The third courses (duck and beef) were particularly good. With an abundance of fish and steakhouses in the region, Stella stands out as offering fine dining with a distinctly American slant. Service was polite and competent. We were not rushed or kept waiting. The front dining room is compact, but not crowded and the atmosphere was peaceful as we would expect in a fine dining restaurant. The Michelin inspectors do not visit NO, but if they did, they would probably award Stella one star. Recommended!"

  • "I heard so much about this place from the myriad of positive reviews floating around the web so I decided to give it a shot while in New Orleans. Decided to go for the four course tasting menu as I was a little listless and unfit to sit through the seven different courses. Though most of these molecular gastronomy places have small portions, the portions offered at Stella! were minuscule at best. The food was pretty average and lacked creativity in both pairing and plating; there was little cohesion within the dish itself. The wait staff were attentive and engaging (they thoroughly explained what each dish entailed) which made the meal sort of interesting. The meal was pretty costly and unfulfilling in my opinion. Much ado about nothing"

  • "My husband and I dined at Stella our last night in New Orleans. It was a wonderful way to finish off our trip. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. I highly recommend Stella to anyone looking for a first-class dining experience in the French Quarter."

  • "Everything was perfect! Each course was beautiful and Delicious. Very interesting combinations of flavor. The timing of each course Was perfect. The service was flawless...someone was waiting to tidy our table between Courses and we always had a full drink. Atmosphere was formal, but not stuffy."

  • "We were never given a choice of other menu We were under the impression there was only prefix"

  • "Stella is my favorite restaurant in NOLA! The fois gras was amazing!"
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "It was expensive, but worth it for the myriad flavors, textures and tastiness of the smaller of the two tasting menus. Thanks for a wonderful evening!"
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "For serious foodies only! This chief's imagination is prodigious and his food combinations are truly unique. The ambiance however is not meditative nor conducive to the full enjoyment of this unique cuisine. The service and the wine are first rate."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "Civility, good manners, knowledgeable personnel will guide you through a unique delicate and subtle experience of a special creative cuisine using only the best of all ingredients. You would expect higher bills for this "degustation" and the expert sommelier wine list for all good taste at reasonable price. Not to be missed. I might visit again NO just to have another culinary experience at Stella"
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "Poor attempt at fusion, flavors did not complement or enhance 2 out of 4 dishes! ONLY wines by the glass, 3 reds all Australian, @ $20 what's with that? Inattentive service. We left hungry after prefix $85 ea 4 course and I'm a small person. On positive note the duck was cooked perfectly!"
    Dined on 3/12/2014
  • "The duck confit was dry, short ribs were tough, menu was boring"
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "Having done tasting menus and wine pairings before at Alinea in Chicago, (where Chef Scott Boswell trained under Chef Grant Altchez), Gordon Ramsey's & Per se in NY, I found the creativity of the servings, the balanced taste on my palate, the wine pairings and the service were on par with the best of the best. This type of dining isn't for everyone, but for the discriminating foodie, who doesn't mind paying a premium price for a culinary masterpiece, this is worth trying out. For the others I'd recommend Arby's up the street!"
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "this restaurant has a good name but is over the top. No good value for money. Winelist does not contain half bottles! wine by the glas gave only Australian wines. This forces you to take full bottles of wine or wine pairing arrangement (60 dollar for 4 glasses of non-interesting wines) Given the fact that the food was complicated with small quantities this is only to be recommended for groups for which money is not an issue."
    Dined on 3/10/2014
  • "Being a foodie I could not allow myself to forgo a visit at this restaurant. The food is creatively designed and meticulous preparation was notable in all our plates. We opted for the 4 courses prix fixe, this way you get to taste 8 different courses if in 2. Wine pairing was very good, the wines themselves weren't great but good. It was the exact pairing with the specific dishes that had a magical synergy. I get to NOLA once in a decade, so I hope it will be there for my pleasure in 2023."

  • "Most of the food was very good, elegant and tasty. However, the Bananas Foster dessert was very poor rendition of the original. Even though one would not anticipate the classic version of this dish in this type of restaurant, the dessert had a rather gooey consistency and was very disappointing. Worse, when I mentioned it was just shrugged off without further inquiry. Overall still a good dining choice with some caveats."
