Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed this lively restaurant a lot. The fancy drinks were delicious and the food and service was very good. A fun place to be!"

  • "I took my daughter and new son-in-law to Stella Blues Cafe for breakfast en route to Kahului Airport 2 days after they were married on the beach in Wailea. It was a great breakfast with good food, good service, and plenty of privacy. The restaurant is more than happy to "tweak" the menu in any way you desire so you can have your meal the way you want it. Prices are reasonable, too, by Maui standards. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting great food for breakfast while avoiding the outrageous cost of breakfast at the high end resorts."

  • "The restaurant is a little noisy, but we enjoyed the energy of this restaurant. Our waitress was very attentive and gave us a lot of great help when deciding what to order. Since we were staying in the Kihei area, it was nice to find a local restaurant with great food!"

  • "This is one our favorite places in Kihei. A neighborhood place, that serves great breakfast, lunch or dinner and we've enjoyed them all. Our kids like the hamburger, fries and shakes and the adults really enjoy all the other menu choices. The fresh local caught seafood choices are always an excellent choice. The service is always friendly and very efficient. We've never been disappointed in coming to Stella's."

  • "The menu, With a notable exception for the fresh fish which had three creative preparation choices was uninspired American. The fish, we had the sesame crust, was delicious. We brought our own wine, and were charged a $25.00 corkage fee. That seemed outrageous. The restaurant offered bottles for $24, but this was our last night of vacation and we had to drink or just leave our bottle. We decided to pay the corkage, but would never go back."

  • "Love Stella Blue! We received patio seating and lovely wait staff. We started with the Blue Cheese bread appy...too much for two people, but highly recommended. The Ono was fresh and expertly prepared, complemented by purple sweet potato mash, delicately seasoned. The Alfredo was a rich generous proportion. With lots of mushrooms, will definitely be back!"

  • "We went for dinner and the Willie K show. The show was almost full when we arrived. The manager was nice to reserve chairs for us in the show while we ate our meal in the restaurant. Apparently they were not allowed to save chairs but the manager did anyway. We had a great time and the food and service was great. Thanks so much."

  • "Good food. Nothing exceptional. Short wine list. Live music during happy hour. Pu Pu's and drink specials during happy hour. Clean. Bright and not too noisy."

  • "We have never had a less that excellent meal at Stella's"

  • "We love this place. We only had a short time to dine because we had to rush off to the airport and we were perfectly accommodated. Our choices ranged from the fresh caught local and the imported fish both prepared with a macadamia nut crust with mashed Maui purple sweet potatoes and lilikoi beurre blanc, both were absolutely delicious. Another in our party had the miso grilled shrimp with coconut rice, another scrumptious choice. Our server expertly helped to keep us on schedule and provided us with great service. Kudos to her and the kitchen."

  • "Whether you are wanting breakfast, lunch, dinner or a place for evening entertainment this is one of our favorite spots in Kihei. We really enjoy the choices of fresh caught local fish, salads, sandwiches and dinner entrees. And the service is always very friendly and attentive."

  • "This was not our first visit and in the past we have been happy with both food and service. The food, while abundant, was not even mediocre. The waitress was taking everything away from in front of me while my husband was still eating and brought our check before he was finished. The place was about 1/4 full so there was no need to give us the "bums rush". We will not go back."

  • "This is a wonderful local favorite for breakfast, lunch, dinner and evening entertainment. The day's fresh caught fish was delicious and we liked the vegetarian items that we sampled. Great drink menu too."

  • "I had one of my most memorable meals at Stella Blues several years back. Unfortunately this time, however, I was sorely let down. It appears management has decided to substitute sugar for creativity in its fish prepations. The macadamia nut crust and tamarind preparations, when coupled with the purple potatoes have become so sweet they are almost inedible. And to top that off, the server seemed to be offended when we didn't order dessert abandoning us for approximately 15 minutes. We had asked her to take a group photo for us and, by the time she got back, she either forgot or decided not to because we had dared to pass on dessert. Overall, a very poor experience and we will not be returning."

  • "Mashed purple sweet potato--just sweet enough to bring out the nutty Mac breading on mahimahi, balanced with tartness of lilikoi buerre blanc sauce. Wow! Chicken curry requested spicy. Perfect heat and curry+coconut milk flavor. Our waitress, Delisa was the best! She LISTENS & is a great communicator with the kitchen. Snap peas so crisp & fresh; I asked if from Kula(upcountry on the slopes of Haleakala). She said yes, & returned from the kitchen with the name of the farm. That's impressive of the kitchen staff and our server. Nice wine list, too. Our Chardonnay was perfect with both the fish and the curry. Can't remember if Sonoma Cutre or Rodney Strong. Only negative--could have been more chicken, but for the price, I can't complain."

  • "My tofu scramble was fantastic! My husband's poached eggs were underdone. Servers weren't brimming with aloha and the place had the atmosphere of a Denny's, but I'd go back for that tofu. Apparently they offer a guava mimosa that is wonderful, not that our waitress mentioned it when I ordered. Maybe next time..."

  • "My husband and I have been going to Stella's for years... however, within the last 6 months to a year the food quality has really gone down fast. The sevice has always been uncertain and very spotty. Sadly both our meals were under quality and highly over cooked. The "fresh" catch of the day tasted less than fresh and so overcooked it was inedible. After several attempts to find something to come back for, we are done. It's sad because it used to be such a great place to go, but probably not for years. Now it's over priced, over-cooked, substandard food with really iffy service. We work hard for the money we choose to spend and we will just choose to spend it elsewhere."

  • "We arrived on Maui on Thanksgiving morning and we unable to cook. We choose Stella Blues for our Thanksgiving Dinner. The meal and presentation were perfect, although each of us had to take home some, because the portions were so large. The staff was attentive and the meal was served piping hot and in a short time. I realize this was a special menu night, but it was executed will the usual care and attentiveness that we have always experienced at Stella Blues. This restaurant is one of our always do, when we come to Maui."

  • "Had the yellow curry with chicken and it was excellent. Liked all the vegetables in this dish. The Greek salad was also very tasty."

  • "Simple, comfort food. If you're looking for typical American, this is your place. No poi. Nice view of the mountains. In a commercial area and a bit difficult to find if you don't know where you're going. We ate outside and there was a table of screaming kids next to us, which was a problem. We left sooner than we wanted."

  • "This was not our first visit to Stella Blues. On this visit we took friends who, while they visit Maui regularly, have never been. It was a pleasant experience, the food was great, and sitting out on the patio allowed us time to visit with friends we have not seen in over a year. Thank you, Stella's!"

  • "All around comfort food. Nothing spectacular, but good food. Had the Asian Chicken Wrap - tasty but messy! Also the Vegetarian Lasagne was comforting."
